I think the force is out to get me – the light bulb above my desk just burned out! The earth does not want me to see sun – going on day 3 of rain. BUT – the forecast is awesome!! Sunny + cool!
To that I say, bah!
Smoothie in a bowl! Today’s flavor: Berry Cheesecake
The cottage cheese in this combined with the raw oats gives the smoothie a cheesecake flavor. If only it was truly topped with a graham cracker crust!
- 1/4 cup raw oats
- 1 cup milk
- Half a frozen banana (or fresh + 2 ice cubes)
- 3/4 cup frozen berries
- 1/4 cup low-fat cottage cheese
Blended up in Vita-mix and topped with a Chia Charger disc and coconut
And that’s the end of that chapter!
Allie@LiveLaughEat says
I remember eating my oats out of that exact bowl last year! Love/want/need it!
KathEats says
Haha – it’s the Salsabol. Ask Santa to bring you a set? https://opensky.com/katheats/product/two-pack-salsabols
Allie@LiveLaughEat says
In my dreams! I think if we bring one more bowl in this house, I will get kicked out 🙂
katie @KatieDid says
and I LOVE/want/need the bike linen. Do you remember where you got that by any chance Kath?

Cool. I just ordered 8 for a xmas gift!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
I thought I’d thrown anything possible into a smoothie… how did I miss cottage cheese?! This looks like an awesome bowl. Cottage cheese is on my grocery list – so many “cheesecake” possibilities!
Rebecca @ Naturally Healthy and Gorgeous says
I love cheesecake but it’s so unhealthy, great to see an alternative! 🙂
Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning says
So are you freezing now? I love smoothies so much, but can’t eat/drink them when it’s this cold out! Any ideas for a “warm” smoothie?? 🙂
And the art teacher in me just has to point out that I love the complimentary color scheme. 🙂
KathEats says
I keep the ice/frozens to a minimum, so it wasn’t bad!
Tracy says
I sometimes warm up my chocolate flavored smoothies. It’s like thick hot cocoa!
Katie says
Your breakfast looks very cheery this morning, but it’s making me very chilly! It’s too cold here for anything other than warm oats for me. Glad your forecast if for sun, it is supposed to be above 30 here today after a high of 20 yesterday. Have a delightful day!
Jessica / Green Skies and Sugar Trips says
I have always avoided cottage cheese like the bubonic plague…..it scares me.
But every time you use it, it makes me think maybe I should give it a try….. 🙂
KathEats says
I love it IN things. I don’t love it by itself
The Mrs @ Success Along the Weigh says
I’ll have to pass this along to The Mr, I think he’s getting burnt out on his smoothie flavor.
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
I love the color of your breakfast! 🙂 It sounds yummy! You are lucky that it’s going to be sunny where you live. It’s been raining here for the past couple of days and it’s only going to continue. Boo!
Cat @Breakfast to Bed says
random q, do you use a regular vitamix or the one from costco? (I hear they are slightly different) I am preparing to move into a larger kitchen, and was curious. Also, have you ever blended in Uncle Sam’s? soooo good.
KathEats says
I have the Professional Series – but I’m sure the Costco one is good too. I haven’t blended in a dry cereal before
Zoe @ loseweightandgainhealth says
I tried cottage cheese, after one of your blogs but really did not like it. Which I was surprised by because I have really enjoyed most of your suggestions. I didn’t blend it though so maybe I need to try it again. I like the idea of a berry cheesecake flavoured breakfast.
KathEats says
You need to blend it! Did you just stir it?
Zoe @ loseweightandgainhealth says
I didn’t even stir it, I served it on top like a dollop of yogurt. I will try blending 🙂 Thanks
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
I don’t love cottage cheese…..but that’s okay–I use Greek yogurt instead! I love the color pink–so this one’s pretty!
Kerry says
If this really tastes exactly like cheesecake I need it in my life asap!
Kelly schussler says
I don’t like cottage cheese.. but I’m wondering how much you can even taste in all blended together with other goodness…? I think it’s more of the texture that I don’t like.
KathEats says
The texture is 100% blended and gone. It just gives a slightly cheesy taste
Elisabeth says
It really surprises me how many people mentioned that they don’t like cottage cheese – I love it! I love it plain (I prefer the stiffer varieties – runny doesn’t do it for me) or it’s tasty to blend it ’til smooth & use it instead of milk/butter in mashed potatoes. I’m sure it’s good blended into a smoothie, too 🙂
Jackie says
Can I ask where you got your coffee mug? I have been looking for one in that shape for ages! Love the color too. Thx!
KathEats says
OpenSky 🙂 But they are sold out 🙁 https://opensky.com/katheats/product/hues-and-brews-mugs
Molly @ RDexposed says
I need to start doing these again..I can’t remember the last breakfast that I’ve made that wasn’t oatmeal.
lynda @ healthy hoboken girl says
way to make a rainy morning bright…a berry breakfast! have a wonderful day!
Maria @ Sinfully Nutritious says
Your teas looks particularly awesome today. I think it is because I want your mug! This smoothie looks delicious too. I have been eating citrus fruit salad all week instead of smoothies.
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
I’ve never done cottage cheese in a smoothie but it makes sense since I use yogurt all the time! I always open a container of cottage cheese, get excited about it for a day or so and then struggle to finish it. Need to make a smoothie next time!
kathleen @ the daily crumb says
yummy smoothie combo. i always forget about berries come wintertime, but this looks delicious! and that’s some beautiful foam this morning 🙂
Janine @ThePurpleGiraffe says
Mmmm that sounds amazing. Cheesecake is a guilty pleasure for me, so I’m happy to see ways to incorporate it’s cheesecakey goodness into a healthier alternative!
Regina says
I was just reading the comments from last night and wanted to chime in that I think you’re Superwoman, too. I was hooked three years ago and I’ve read your posts each morning, seven days a week (internet-access permitting). Xoxo. You’re a rockstar in my book.
KathEats says
Thanks Regina xo
Kiran @ KiranTarun.com says
Ditto from all of your fans 🙂
I have huge craving for cheesecakes. All the time. I don’t indulge. Bet I would get my dose and a good kick from this smoothie 🙂 Have a great day!
Caitlin says
Your tea always looks so yummy! It makes me want to try to drink tea but then when I do it never takes as good as it looks. I guess i’m just a coffee girl at heart!
Anna @ On Anna's Plate says
Man…we’re on our third day of rain now, and it doesn’t show signs of stopping!!
Dee says
Gingerbread tea?! Holy cow. I must get and try!
Cait's Plate says
Gah that gingerbread tea looks PERFECT! I’m loving the froth!
Susan H. @ the food allergy chronicles says
Gloomy third day here in Southern Ontario…although I think I am seeing a slight break in the clouds. Your colourful combination of breakfast is perfect for such a day! I had brightly coloured blueberries in my oatmeal today. Here’s hoping for some rays of sunshine to brighten up our day!
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
Love the green color of the bowl + the purple from the smoothie! It makes me think of summer… ahh how I miss summer!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Mmm yes, a graham cracker crust would make it amazing! Perfect breakfast for a cloudy day. I think winter’s finally here to stay now – just be thankful that it’s warmer in Cville than southern Ontario!
Hannah @ eat, drink, and save money says
I drink tea all day at work. Right now my regular green tea is making me sad compared to your gingerbread tea! I need some of that.
Cheryl says
Kath, where do you get these chia seeds? Do they have more nutritional value than say flaxseeds? I live in small town, no stores like Whole Foods. More like Kroger and Walmart… 🙂 I have looked in the somewhat small health food sections in these stores and on the cereal isle (that is where I find flaxseed) but I have never seen chia seeds.
KathEats says
http://www.chiaseedsdirect.com/ has the best prices and free shipping, so even though I can get them at Whole Foods, I order them online – a huge bag lasts me a few months or more
Katie says
Cheryl, maybe you can ask your store if they can start carrying them.
Christine @ Oatmeal in my Bowl says
I have never thought of putting cottage cheese in my oatmeal. Interesting. Cheese cake flavor is good. And it sure looks delicious!
Lena @Fit on the Rocks says
I never thought to add cottage cheese, but I would love breakfast that tasted like cheesecake. Yum!
Hilliary @Happily Ever Healthy says
Yummmm, this sounds delicious! I want to see the sun so bad, it has been overcast and snowy here the past few days!

whats a chia charger disc? intrigued!
KathEats says

Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
Looks so colorful, especially with the green bowl! Too chilly of a breakfast for me though! It’s below freezing right now!
Khushboo says
I love using cottage cheese to make a cheesecake dip and then scooping it up with graham crackers!
RunEatRepeat says
I have the most intense craving for cottage cheese and pineapple lately. With your mention of it I know I must get to the store!
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
That looks berry delicious 🙂
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
Looks great and gingerbread tea…I don’t even ‘love’ tea that much but that sounds wonderful!
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
That sounds so good, I love cottage cheese and never thought about the fact that it would give a smoothie a cheesecake flavor. Excellent!
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
It’s a little chilly here for a smoothie buuuuut I could be ok with anything that tastes like cheesecake!
Heather says
Just curious, what’s with all the writing on photos lately? I prefer the simplicity of your photographs. I feel like the writing detracts a bit.
Catherine says
Hi Kath –
Love your blog and have begun to visit it every day.
I’m curious as to whether your different oatmeal creations are portioned for one person, or if they are intended for two.
Thanks,
Catherine
KathEats says
Hey Catherine,
One unless otherwise noted!
Björg says
This both sounds so good!
I’m hungry now 🙂
Katie says
Kath, are you familiar with Bambeco? After reading your morning post I was at the gym reading Women’s Health and they have some bowls that look similar to the one in your post and others you use. I hopped on their website and found many things that I want to order. I would love to have one of the herb wreaths (these were in Food Network magazine). There is a code for 15% off in December in Women’s Health.
KathEats says
I haven’t heard of it, but beautiful products! I love that wreath too!
Angel7 says
Today’s forecast was cold and rainy!
