Boy getting up at 4am was not fun. Nor was lugging my suitcase and tote in the pouring rain. But I’m hoping at the other end of this rainbow lots of fun awaits!
Thankfully our travel thus far has gone smoothly (except the above circumstances) and we’re hovering near Las Vegas right now.
The first half of our flight Larbs and I donned our matching eye masks and snoozed as best we could. There’s a bachelor party of men who started drinking….at 6:25 take-off…so it’s been a bit difficult!
When I decided the sun was up enough for it to be morning, I had breakfast –
PB&J on Dakota!! Always come prepared.
To sip I drank some OJ – the ultimate travel breakfast beverage (coffee in Vegas perhaps!?)
We’re flying Southwest and have the most cheerful flight attendant who has been hilarious – and showered us with snacks!! Saving these for later..
LOVING my Kindle app so much!! On the one hand it makes me want to buy one, but on the other my favorite part about it is that my book is right on my phone – no extra baggage necessary!
See ya!
lynn @ the actor's diet says
eeek – i have to get up early for a flight to vancouver tomorrow morning! not looking forward to it…

Kristin @ eat healthy. be happy. live well. says
Gorgeous sunrise!!! That’s one of my fave parts about flying, seeing above the clouds 🙂 Hope the rest of the trip goes smoothly!
katie @KatieDid says
drinking at 630?! perhaps they never went to bed and they are still considering it last night haha. Safe travels!

Techology is so amazing! Love the kindle app!
Glad you guys are making the most of your traveling time.
Have a wonderful weekend…your breakfast bread looks so yummy! I <3 seeds!
Scott Dobos says
I was weighing the pros and cons of the kindle app – is it too small on your iPhone after reading a couple of hundred pages? Decisions to buy or not…ugg!
Sarah says
Love it when they are so generous with the snacks! Why an extra package of crackers seems to make up for cramped seats, expensive tickets, baggage fees, poor air quality and delays I don’t know! Magic I tell ya.
A word of caution to any migraine-prone readers out there… I tried using the Kindle app on my iPhone for a trip once and it gave me an aura migraine IN-flight. It was nothing short of a nightmare. Beware!
Samantha Kampman says
I just read that same book!
MindyG says
What book is it?? Just that one page made the bookworm bite me. 🙂
sarah says
Yes me too! I want to read it this weekend!
Kathryn says
It is the newest book by Nicholas Sparks. The Best Of Me.
Its good!
kathleen @ the daily crumb says
i love southwest! we are flying them to denver later this month — i have the best experience on that airline.
so jealous of your trip to the bay area. you will have a blast with all of the amazing other bloggers. safe travels, kath!
Caitlyn says
Wow. Talk about starting a bachelor party early! Hopefully they didn’t get too roudy during the flight.
Caitlin says
I always seem to get a nice flight attendant who is willing to give me 50,000 peanut and pretzel packets. OR Biscoffs!
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
I love when they give you extra snacks on the plane. Have a safe flight! 🙂
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
Safe travels!! 🙂
Cait's Plate says
Early flights are the absolute hardest for sure. Hope you get tons of fun on the other side of the rainbow! At least you have Larbs there with you!
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
I LOVE southwest! they are the best airline! Have a safe trip!
Mom says
Go Southwest. Ya’ll rock.
Jen says
Hilarious flight attendant? Sounds fun. Now if she gave you free beverages, that might be better 🙂
Are you and Larbs going to the Summit? Do you have similar eating habits as sisters?
natasha says
Oh I LOVE my Kindle. I am on my second one (upgraded) and prefer to reading on iPad, etc.
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
Haha love the sleep mask 🙂
juli says
Im looking at the Open Sky sales and noticed the Teddie peanut butter. How do you like that brand? I eat nut butter 7 days a week and Im on my last jar of trader joe’s. Help! I can’t run out!
KathEats says
Never had it!
Christine says
All I buy is Teddie’s and I love it! Best part is just two ingredients, roasted peanuts and salt. It’s amazing!
NJMOM says
I have a Nook and I absolutly love it. I take it eveywhere with me. The Kindle App is to small.

You can never go wrong with a PB&J sandwich for a quick and easy on-the-go meal! Hope you have a great rest of your flight. Looking forward to hearing about this weekend!
Candice says
Recently did a flight from NH to CA, with a stop in Vegas with Southwest and had those same party guys on our flight!! Hard to sleep but over soon enough.
Meredith says
One of my besties is a Southwest flight attendant. Her name is Charity and she’s based out of RDU! She’s hilarious!!!
KathEats says
Hey Meredith!!
This lady was maybe mid 40 s, small, big smile?
Meredith says
Hey!! Wrong lady–Too old for Charity. I have an almost 8 month old little boy now and I’m making his baby food from scratch!! Yay for me!! He’s eating a fresh pureed pumpkin this week!!!
KathEats says
Awww I remember when you were trying!! He must be cute!
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
I HATE early flights. But southwest makes everything better!!
Where are you going, ps?? 🙂
KathEats says
Third annual Foodbuzz festival in San Francisco!
Khushboo says
I’m still not convinced about the Kindle…I’m too stuck on the novelty of reading a real book!!
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
That kindle app is so cool! I feel like it would hurt my eyes to read it off my iphone, though.
Susan H. @ the food allergy chronicles says
PB and banana is my breakfast of choice when visiting my mother. Yours looks simply divine in that gorgeous bread…however…it’s a reminder to me to realize how careful I need to be when travelling with my boys who have peanut/tree nut allergies.(as well as dairy, egg, beef, sesame, fish, shellfish, raspberries and mustard)
Kathryn says
Susan – I’m a regular reader of Kath’s blog (love it!) and I’m happy to see another mom of kids with food allergies reading too! My son is allergic to peanuts, dairy, wheat and eggs so it’s challenging to say the least. I’m going to check out your blog now!
Susan H. @ the food allergy chronicles says
Kathryn-I am a recent reader (a friend told me to check it out) and I too am loving it! Kath inspires me with her photography, her creative dishes and her energetic lifestyle…not to mention all the yummy bakery treats! Thanks Kath!
Living with children with multiple food allergies is challenging…it certainly has given me a better appreciation for life and living as healthy as we can…there is just one shot at it so we make the best with what we have! So happy you will be checking out my blog.
Liz says
I have a Nook from Barnes & Noble and I love it! I always swore I’d never spend the money for an e-reader (nor would I quit reading ‘real’ books), but once I decided to get one, I’ve never regretted it! I still read library books a lot (and some libraries do digital books that you can put on your e-reader), but the Nook (or Kindle) is so handy to always have with you, especially since you can have as many books at your fingertips as you like 🙂
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Great plane shots!! Your sandwich looks delicious. I need to get a Kindle BADLY – and a nice pink case like yours!
KathEats says
I don’t have a Kindle – just a phone with the Kindle app!
Maria Bardet says
Have fun at Foodbuzz! I am sure you will be so inspired. I’m new to the food blogging world but will be sure to check it out next year.
Amanda says
I had the BEST flight attendant when I went to Prague a few years ago. My roommate and I hit it off with him and he ended up bringing us champagne, chocolates – the works. Best.flight.ever.
Sarah R says
I love flying Southwest. The flight attendants actually act like they enjoy their jobs, plus you can’t beat no baggage fees.
Sarah says
I was so resistant to buy a Kindle..but its awesome. And the no glare/e-ink technology will save your eyes and is awesome in the summer time for taking it with you everywhere.
Julia H. @ The Petite Spiel says
Ahaha, love the eye masks. I could use one of those! The blinds in my dorm room block out about ZERO light, so in the beginning of the semester, the sun always woke me up earlier than I wanted! Guess I’ve gotten used to it by now, though..
Laura P says
Love your site. So wish you could make my meals so pretty and yummy!! I received a kindle as a gift and love it. I used to read books on my phone, too but it’s a tiny screen and it takes a toll on the eyes. You can now also do library books on the kindle.
Enjoy your trip!
JoJo says
The kindle app is pretty amazing, lightens up your load!
I can’t get over not using a “real book” but it does make things easier especially when you are traveling.. Yes, I kinda gave in after all..
Joanne says
I LOVE that kindle app. I have a kindle but use the phone app more.
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
Have fun in Cali!!! Can’t wait to see the pics from FBuzz!
Maria @ Sinfully Nutritious says
Gorgeous view, at least that seems like it was almost worth the 4am wake up. I had to eat a little PB&J after reading your post.
Laura (Blogging Over Thyme) says
I love the Kindle app too–you can also download it on your computer. I have tried reading books on my phone before but always think that its a bit too small–I can never concentrate on it!
Have fun on the trip!
Jennifer says
Love that last picture! Beautiful! Your phone looks exactly like mine. I haven’t tried the Kindle app on my phone yet. I have the Nook Color and really like that but you made a very good point about not having to haul one more thing around with you. 🙂
Hope you have a great time!
theresa says
I won a Kobo reader through my work, and I LOVE IT!!! makes travelling so much easier, and I’m a travel agent so I know it sucks to lug the books! You can buy fun covers for them that make it feel like you are holding a book too.. haha
Kat @ Balance & Spice says
Ohmigoodness – where did you get that eye-mask? That is possibly the cutest and least atrocious travel accessory I’ve seen in a long, long time. Safe travels, can’t wait to read about the trip! 🙂
