I’m trying something new!! Taking my lunch photos at home when I pack it and then uploading as a draft to edit from work. I think it’ll be a nice upgrade from 100% iPhone photos 🙂
Today’s photo shoot took place on a chair near a window. The natural light was much appreciated by my lens!
Included in the lunch tote was a spinach salad drizzled in olive oil and agave and topped with leftover sweet potatoes + squash! Insta-salad.
The Siggi’s along with a container of ground flax and Crofter’s Superfruit Spread (I don’t care if my flax gets soggy – it was good to save an extra container! But it really didn’t lose its texture at all!)
Of course I tried the Siggi’s plain first. I liked it! It was definitely tangier than other greek yogurts, which I didn’t quite love, but I loved how thick it was. And I love the carton! But since it’s super expenisve, I’m still sticking to my staples of Oikos and TJ’s greek – with a Chobani flavor thrown in for fun.
And a snuggly, romantic blood orange and kiwi.
I didn’t have enough time to eat my fruits, so I”m going to save them for a snack when I get to my afternoon location.
Great Real Food lunch!!
I’m actually eating at EarthFare (needed a hot cup of tea to go with lunch – I was soooo cold!!!) as I make my way to the other health dept location for the afternoon (EarthFare is right on the way – how convenient!). Along with my hot tea (Gypsy Egyptian Mint!) I picked up a small cup of Thai chicken soup – only about 1/3 a cup so as not to hurt the feelings of any of my other lunch components! But it was a nice complement to the rest of lunch and I needed the warmth more than anything.
Tonight our realtor is coming over to do our paperwork. House should be up for show in 48 hours or so!! YIKES!! It looks amazing though, and our updates and cleaning and yardwork and pressure washing have TOTALLY transformed it! Cross your fingers it sells FAST – roaches and all!
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
I doubt it will take your house very long, It’s so pretty!!!
Love salads with sweet potatoes on top. Yum. I agree about Siggis. They are good but not worth the cost to me.
Kalli@Fitandfortysomething says
smart idea about the photos…..i do that too sometimes. it makes life easier plus sometimes i forget to take pics when i am eating at work cuz i am so hungry and have such limited time!
have a great day!
GurlOnA"Diet" says
yummy! salad with agave? i must try that soon!
Brittany says
Yum. I love roasted squash on salads. Your lunch looks awesome.
Fingers crossed that the house sells quickly. 🙂
Shannon (The Daily Balance) says
what a clever way to “dress” a salad! never thought to use agave to sweeten things up – genius! Have a glorious afternoon!
Freya @ foodfitnessandfreya.wordpress.com says
Oooh good luck with the realtor!!
Hehe squash and sweet potato and agave is one of the best combinations known to man!!
Blood orange…it sounds so brutal! But still looks like a delicious lunch, lots o colour 🙂
Have a fab day!
Estela @ Weekly bite says
What a lovely looking breakfast! I always get nervous when realtors come to our house.
I’m sure your house will sell in no time 🙂
Mellissa says
Sending quick house selling vibes your way, ours is on the market as well. It is a stressful process!
Chloe (Naturally Frugal) says
Good luck with selling the house!
Have a great day, and keep us posted on your progress with the realtor and selling your home!
Megan (The Runner's Kitchen) says
Love all the REAL foods in this lunch 🙂 I haven’t tried Siggi’s skyr yet, but my physical therapist highly recommends it!
Ryane says
That’s funny. At my grocery stores, I can find Chobani for less $$ than Oikos… and I believe their cartons are bigger right? (6 oz vs. 5.something oz?)
Totally going to try agave on my salad!
Kath says
It is less, but I don’t believe that Chobani is organic or any special milk?
Hannah says
Good luck! I agree that the Siggi’s is quite tangy, and even the flavoured ones are. But sadly you’re right, it also is too expensive for regular consumption!
Lisa says
I love making extra sweet potatoes and squash so I can use up the leftovers. Those are two foods that I never get sick of. And I’m always tempted to try Siggi’s, but haven’t yet because of the price…if I were to splurge, I’m wondering which would be the best flavor to try.
Just found your site through a friend of mine, and I’m enjoying your posts.
Cynthia (It All Changes) says
I love the idea of pre-writing your posts. I do it every night since I don’t have time in the morning. Saves me bunches of time.
Lisa says
Good luck with the sale! I wish I could buy it. It looks lovely and I do want to move to Charlotte! 🙂
leatitia says
good luck with the house!! it looks lovely from here, I’m sure it’ll sell fast.
Ameena says
Good luck with listing your house…it is such a process! I hope it goes fast!
Ash @ Good Taste. Healthy Me says
Good luck! Hope it sells fast! 🙂
Carrie says
Do you always eat the acorn squash peel? What additional nutrition does it provide?
Kath says
Yes, but I don’t think there are any specific nutrients other than fiber. Although the most nutritious part of a potato is just under the skin, so maybe squash is the same.
Anne says
That Siggi’s stuff is so good; expensive though! Try the blueberry, it is my favorite.
Megan (bites of the apple) says
The package is insanely cute on that siggi.
Nothing tops fage for me. Even though it annoys me to no end that it says “pronounced fa-YEH” on the package so my bf always says fa-YEH over and over when I eat it…
Angela (The Lady Loves to Eat) says
I love the snuggling fruits, they are so cute! I love Trader Joe’s greek yogurt it’s my fave!
LD says
Do you have pictures of your house up on KERF? I don’t think I’ve ever seen any, besides some of the pictures of the inside. It’s really pretty!
Kath says
There’s a video!!
Karla says
I loove blood oranges! I don’t know if they actually taste different or I just tell myself they do!
I’m sure your house will sell in no time! It looks beautiful from what I can tell 🙂
Lisa @bakebikeblog says
What a great balanced lunch!
And GOOD LUCK with the house!!!! Sending speedy sales vibes your way 🙂
Haleigh says
I just started an office job and was trying to come up with creative lunch ideas. Now I can’t wait to try roasted veggies for lunch. Good luck with the house! xoxo
Becky says
OMG I love Skyr! My husband and I honeymooned in Iceland (yeah, we are sort of weird) and we loved the skyr while we were there. Since we had an action packed honeymoon with lots of hiking, we often packed skyr in our lunches. DELICIOUS! SO jealous you can find it near you (even if it is expensive).
Cassandra says
That salad looks so tasty!, and I need to find a blood orange cause it looks like it could be tasty…
Have a good day 🙂

Hi Kath, Ive been reading your blog since day one. Honestly. I love it and I love your philosphy on food. I followed closely how you ate for a while (real food with treats from time to time, big breakfast, lots o veggies). and I felt AMAZING! However, I have made a turn in the wrong direction — giving in to too much alcohol, midless eating, simple carb’s, and lots of sugar free stuff. Was wondering how to find my way back and if you know of any books/services or would be willing to help me get back on track. Willing to pay you for your services of course. Thank you.
Mia says
i was going to say the same thing! i used to be so motivated when it came to eating healthy and working out. even though i feel horrible and i have gained some weight, i too i can’t seem to get back on track!
Kath says
I don’t quite yet have the credentials or insurance to do nutrition counseling on my own, but come August/September I hope to!! I recommend SuperFoods HealthStyle for a great read. And Fit From Within by Victoria Moran. Also Michael Pollan’s books!
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
Hmmm, I’ve never seen that Siggi’s before! I like the name…because it sounds like Ziggy, lol. But I’m not a fan of tangy yogurt, so I don’t think I”ll be trying it.
GOOD LUCK with the house!!!
Christie @ Honoring Health says
I used to love siggi’s yogurt but it is mucho $$$ and I don’t eat dairy anymore. Yogurt is for sure the thing I miss about not eating dairy. It used to make such a great snack!
Good luck with the Realtor!
laura dishes says
The roaches just add character. 😉
I’ve seen that yogurt, but never tried it since Chobani is normally less expensive!
Stef says
i love siggi’s too, but i only buy them when they’re on sale or as a special treat :). definitely tangier, but i like that! good idea about taking pics at home and then writing the draft at work
Lauren says
Good luck on selling your house. I sure hope roaches don’t come crawling out at any interested buyers!
Jen says
I’ve always found plain yogurt a bit tangy, but I don’t like a lot of the flavored ones. Do you have any tips on what to add to take the tangy-ness out of it?
Good luck selling your house!! I hope it goes quickly and smoothly!
Kath says
Most greek yogurts are not tangy AT ALL!
Jen says
Awesome! I’ve never tried greek yogurt before, I definitely will now. Thanks!
The Healthy Apple says
I love Siggi’s yogurt…it’s amazing and so thick and creamy…it’s one of my favorites…good luck with the house tonight!
Simply Life says
Good luck selling your house!
Katherine says
I adore Siggi’s, especially the orange ginger flavor. If only it were slightly cheaper – it’s just way too much to buy regularly.
Kristilyn (My 29th Year) says
From the pictures I’ve seen of your house on your blog, I’m sure it’ll sell fast – it looks like a beautiful place!
Isn’t it great having a nice, real food lunch? I wish we had more of a yogurt selection here in Canada, but it seems like there’s the super expensive organic stuff, or the really cheap stuff that’s filled with preservatives and artificial things. It sucks, money-wise, that I have to go the Organic route, but I’m sure my body will thank me in the future.

Your home is beautiful, Im sure it wil not sit long. I love your spoons. Im sure it has been commented on before. Where did you purchase them? Is it part of a set or just individual pieces? My oatmeal would taste even better with spoons like those!
Kath says
Thank you!
I get spoons from all over. That one is from World Market.
Jenn @ Livewellfit says
Such an incredible time for you guys right now!
I’m definitely making something with squash tonight…and sweet potatoes. So comforting and with all the snow on the ground, will make for a perfect evening!
Leena says
I just bought a Siggi’s yogurt at the store, but have yet to try it. I got the orange ginger flavor – it’ll be interesting to see how it tastes! Is it thicker than regular greek yogurt? i wonder what makes it so expensive?
Jil says
Mmm, a blood orange. Haven’t had those in forever. I’ve never had Siggi’s…though I should try it the next time it goes on sale. haha 🙂
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
Lovely lunch! Good luck with the house showing… I’m sure it will sell quickly with it being so well taken care of and in a great neighborhood!
Jenn (www.j3nn.net) says
I have vanilla bean skyr dairy (yogurt? custard?) once and it was amazing. very expensive though!

Hi Kath,
Beautiful blog you have! I’m pretty new to your blog and I LOVE it, thanks for all the time and effort you put into it, you can REALLY tell that you care about it and seek to inspire your readers 🙂
I have a question about your education/career goals. I graduated in 2005 with a BS in Business, PR. I really want to become an RD, and have for some time, but I am lost as to where to start! Should I pursue a Master’s in Dietetics? An additional Bachelors?
ANY advice you can give me is great, thanks!
Kath says
Sarah,
Hop over to EatRight.org – they have a whole section for people who want to go back to school to be an R.D. from another career.

Looks delicious! Although I wasn’t a big fan of the Siggi’s….too tangy for me.
Lily @ Lily's Health Pad says
If Siggi’s is more expensive than Oikos, I don’t think I can afford to try it!
Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] says
I’m really happy about the new lunch photos. No offense, but I was not digging the iPhone posts. Quality over quantity =]
