Boy, it was a long day! I went from a creek-side run to the big city! Gus and I ran a fast 5K down the greenway and back, and I wrapped up all loose ends before leaving for the airport. Lunch was a quick sandwich with ham, manchego, pickles, jalapenos, and greens.
My flight was delayed a bit, but since the Cville airport is so nice I was able to sit and work on the free wifi for a few hours. Flying over Cville is stunning — all green hills and mountains. I love where I live, small airport and all! I love the concept of urban city living, but I am definitely a small town girl at heart.
Since when does American offer Biscoff!! That sure was a pleasant surprise!
The cab process went smoothly but gosh, Chicago, your traffic! It took me over an hour to get from the airport to my destination sitting in bumper to bumper traffic. I can barely handle the stoplights in Cville!
I honestly do not know how you guys live in big cities. I would be so overwhelmed with all of the good dining options that I would be food-poor and eat out every night. I would have to try them all!
We ate at Bar Siena, and it was fabulous! Burrata, shrimp and artichokes, brussels, salad — they were all so good!
And a figgy + truffle pizza!
For dessert, we tried the famous donuts (Bomboloni) and gelato. Apparently, there is a walk-up window called Bombobar where you can order these to go. Yet another reason I need to save big cities for travel! Those squeeze bottles were filled with chocolate!
Why am I here, you ask? I am working with Swanson Health to spread the word on their new line of probiotics! I’ll be heading to Los Angeles next week for an official media tour, but I’m here in Chicago doing some prep tomorrow. More details to come!! 😉
This weary traveler needs rest….zzzz

The green field from above looks gorgeous! I too am a city-girl at heart, but the greenery would make a great escape once in a while.

Welcome to my city! I know it’s overwhelming but you’ll find your groove in no time. Bar Siena is one of my fave spots. So excited you’re here! Enjoy the adventure!

Those donuts look so yummy 🙂 My little brother lives in Chicago and I love having an excuse to go visit, but agree, way too big for me to live there!

Kath! Have a great time in Chicago. Always take the “L” if it’s rush hour and you’re going downtown. Takes like 40 minutes on the blue line! Chicago traffic is bad until 10am and from 3-7! I miss living in Chicago but I don’t miss all the craziness of living in one of the biggest cities in the country. Enjoy!
KathEats says
I debated the L but the team told me to cab it – Google was saying similar times – but that is good to know for the future!
Melissa | HerGreenLife says
Agreed on picking light rail in most cities at rush hour. Even if the times are similar, sitting in a moving train is much more relaxing than feeling “stuck” in traffic.

Yay you are in my city! Can’t wait to see what else you do while you are here!

I’m going to be working inside most of this visit, but I hope to come back soon!

It’s chi-TOWN, not chi-ville.

Duh. Making a joke.
Sara says
I see that you were making a joke/play on words however I think its important to note that tone is difficult to convey in text comments. And I don’t know what tone Katie or you were trying to get across, however, as someone with 10+ years more than you in the workforce and who trains people on communication with others, I think its important to note that Katie is a customer. The blog is your business, as you have said before, and its impressive that you have made a living on it! I know many many bloggers look up to you as an example of how to do what they love for fun AND profit. To that end, Katie is a customer. You make a living on page views and alienating one customer or others who see you say “Duh” to a reader is not the customer service you likely want to provide.
I know that if I said “Duh” to a client or my boss when they said something about a joke of mine that they didn’t get, I would likely be looking for another job.
Have a great time in Chicago! And please think about what kindness you can put out as part of your job as a blogger.

I agreee with this comment. Duh isn’t very nice even if the original comment isn’t very nice. Otherwise could have been a nice/ funny thread about a cute joke
Jane says
I think the original commenter was being rude correcting her. I got the joke, and I think Kath was just annoyed at the snarky correction. As usual, you guys are majorly overreacting!

I have such a love/hate relationship with work travel; I love getting to see new places around the world, but most of my travel is overseas (like Africa or Europe), so it takes sooooooo long to get there, lol. : ) At least Chicago is a quick trip! I was in Rwanda last week, and it took me 33 hours to get home. Ouch!!
Another love: biscoffs! One of my favorite plane snacks! I’m surprised they had time to do the full beverage service on such a short flight — lucky you!
Have the best time in Chicago – looks like it’s beautiful weather there — and i hope your three boys (T, M, and G!) don’t miss you too much…
KathEats says
Wow – that is cool overseas travel! I can see how it would take a toll getting there, as my trip to Kenya took me a really long time back in 2009! But cool opportunities!! And T,M and G…. aww!! <3
Kate says
I always think it’s hilarious when people who live in cities with a population of 50k consider it more of a small town! It’s amazing what is all in your perspective! 🙂 Folks around here complain when the population of our town creeps above 1000.
KathEats says
Yes it is all about perspective! Hillsborough was much smaller than Cville is, but I think I like a “mid-size town” better 🙂 Maybe we are a city? We do say City of Charlottesville : )
