The only buns of steel around here are mine and Faith’s – my burger was consumed with bread 😉
Faith and I went for a walk this morning followed by a Dave Farmar session – the 6.1.2009 class. It was one of Dave’s easier classes, but always, always good ole Baptiste yoga. Love.
After Faith left, I did a few chores, showered, and set out to make that burger.
I used my recipe for Homemade Bean Burgers
Today’s mix was a base of pinto beans with Worcestershire, whole wheat flour, olive oil, rosemary salt, nutritional yeast, pepper and walnuts. See the recipe above for the how-to!
I added a tablespoon or two of walnuts to the mix – loved that crunchy addition!!
All cooked up with bread for a bun, ketchup, mustard and jalapenos!
Served with a side salad of spinach, veg, apricot stilton, pine nuts, cherry vinegar and olive oil
I’m walking to Karen’s house in a bit for us to go out for Cville’s restaurant week!! But first, some paperwork.
Estela @ Weekly Bite says
I love restaurant week! So many good deals and so much good food 🙂
Enjoy 🙂
Freya (Brit Chick Runs) says
GREAT looking burgers! The last time I made homemade bean burgers, I accidently flipped the tray straight out of the oven and onto the floor, and lost them all 🙁 Maybe I should redeem myself and try again!?
Jessica @ How Sweet It Is says
Wondering if I could trick the husband into thinking these are meat burgers!
Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin says
I only started making my own veggie burgers within the last year or so and I’ll never go back to the frozen ones! You can pretty much throw whatever you have in there and they are so tasty! My favorite ones lately have been with quinoa, white beans, carrot, scallions, and cumin. So good with greek yogurt sauce!
jen @ taste life says
How much longer is Matt in Montana? I know you told us before, but I can’t remember – and you’ve already been home for a week!
Love the idea of walnuts in the burger, yum.

I WILL make that bean burger recipe next week. I MUST!

Your bean burger looks delish! I have a bag of dried great northern beans staring at me from the pantry, I might have to try them in a burger next week!

You’re a brave girl for putting that many jalapenos on a sandwich!! I think I’d do it too.
Kelly says
Everyone in my office is talking about restaurant week! Apparently Orzo is the place to go – they actually extended their “week” through Feb! What place are you and Karen trying? I might hop on the Orzo bandwagon.. :o)
KathEats says
We’re going to Montiel – a place I hadn’t heard of!

VeggieGirl says
Have fun at restaurant week and good luck with your paperwork!
Jessica says
Kath- Question for you – do you use fresh or canned jalapenos on your sandwiches? I don’t want the preservatives with the canned kind, but the fresh ones seem really hard.
KathEats says
I use the pickled. There’s no way I could eat fresh!! I’m not worried about a little preservative I eat in such a small quantity. If it were a food I ate by the cup everyday, I’d feel differently.
Stephanie @ Thorns Have Roses says
Will yoga give me buns of steel too? If so…I need to get on that! 🙂
Elizabeth@The Sweet Life says
Looks delicious–jalapenos are a nice touch!
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says

We had our town’s restaurant week last week and it was awesome! A great excuse to go to a place you’ve never even heard of before 🙂
I love the bean burgers! No problems making my husband eat them, especially when they’re spiced up with some curry powder and red pepper flakes in the mix.

Which is your favorite of Dave Farmar’s podcasts? I downloaded the latest one on itunes and loved it. Trying to decide on another to download and would love a recommendation!
KathEats says
Unfortunately I have not kept a good record of any of the ones I have done, so I can’t recommend a favorite. I’m starting to do that now though! They are all very similar though, so you really can’t go wrong.

Quick question Kath! How much nutritional yeast did you use in this recipe? I’ve fiddled with nutritional yeast in my beans burgers and have not gotten the desired results…You look to have gotten it right…Thanks!
KathEats says
Mabye 2 tsp? Not that much cause I didn’t want to dry it out

Could you roughly write out the quantities of Worcestershire, whole wheat flour, olive oil, rosemary salt, nutritional yeast, pepper and walnuts that you used?
Sorry to be a bother, but I’ve never made a veggie burger and would really like to try this one… but I have no clue about the measurements (& the link doesn’t outline the measurements either!)
Thanks in advance 🙂
KathEats says
Sure.
2 splashes of Worcestershire (so maybe 1/2 tsp?), 1 tbsp flour (per the original recipe), 1 tsp olive oil (per original recipe), 2 pinches rosemary salt (just use your fingers to pinch some out!), 1 tsp nutritional yeast, 3 grinds black pepper (1/4 tsp?) and maybe 2 tbsp chopped walnuts
Meagan says
I just realized that I never commented – that sandwich made me salivate, and is making me salivate!!
Damjana says
I made a bean burger today for the first time, inspired by your recipe. I had leftover beans and they would otherwise turn bad, and I made a great burger! tnx a bunch for the recipe
