Curses to caffeine, garlic, strange noises and butt bruises!
All four kept me tossing and turning last night and now I feel like a zombie 🙁 Should not have had iced tea with dinner – but I always forget that has caffeine!
Also, rolling over was very hard with the lump on my butt
I’m awake though, and oatmeal tasted good.
Oh, curses to photography in the dark dining room too!
Matt’s Mix

- 1/3 cup milk
- 3/4 banana

- Toppings: Butterscotch chips, coconut, chopped almonds, a tiny sprinkle granola, Barney Butter
Help!
Did you see the intro to The Simpsons last night? HILARIOUS! The whole episode was. And both The Office and 30 Rock were hysterical this week. 3 fer 3!
Annnnnnnnnnnd I’m off to work early this week for an earlier shift. Hopefully I’ll be finished earlier too!
Marina says
Rough nights are always awful, but a rejuvenating breakfast afterwards makes it all better 🙂
I hope you have a nice day!
Kaci Higgins says
Aww so sorry you didn’t sleep well, but your breakfast looks yummy & energizing!! =) Hope you have a great day & get out early!
Brittany says
It’s crazy that one cup of tea can keep you up at night. Caffeine doesn’t seem to affect me that way. Hopefully tonight will be much better. Have a great day!
Annie@stronghealthyfit says
It’s such a bummer sometimes when you can’t get enough sleep! It affects EVERYthing else.
Marisa (Loser for Life) says
I had a rough night’s sleep from that too-late- caffeine, too 🙁
I hope you have a good day and heal quickly!
Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life says
I, too, had a rough night’s sleep last night, but mine was due to some unexpected HEAT here in update New York! I just could not cool off.
Maybe some naps are in order for us later today? 🙂
Happy Monday!
Hannah says
At least there are still comedy shows to make you laugh when you’re exhausted. Maybe you can fit in a nanna nap this afternoon?
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
Hope your Monday goes well Kath! And I’d say the coffee resembles the wide open ocean! 😉
Lauren @ eater not a runner says
Sorry about the rough night of sleep….that’s the worst!!
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) says
Ugh…I hate tossing and turning and lack of sleep. I hope you get a burst of energy today that keeps you going! 😀
Oh and the oats look fantabulous despite the dark lighting! 😀
Jessica @ How Sweet says
Rough sleeps are the worst. I had one myself last night. Heres hoping to a better week!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
We do half caf iced tea here. It is tricky with the caffeine since it is refreshing on warm spring/summer nights! Yeah, the storms here last night kept us all up through out the night! Tossing and turning is so frustrating especially when you have to get up early. Hopefully it will be a good busy day so it will go by quickly! Butterscotch in oats…great way to start Monday!
Ann @ Appalachian Appetites says
That coffee pour was not very good 🙂 Maybe a large void? The sun? (I’m hoping it comes out today!!)
Daniel says
Aww, I hope your day makes up for the lack of sleep and isn’t too stressful; no sleep can be such a draaaaaaaaaag. 🙁
Erin says
Kath–do you make your own placemats? I’m trying to make window treatments right now and saw that exact pattern at Jo Ann. How cute! And how simple to do!
Erin says
By pattern–I mean the actual pattern in the fabric, not an outline to make a placemat 🙂
Kath says
I got that one at Williams Sonoma. I am not a sewer (although I used to be!)
Courtney (Pancakes & Postcards) says
Glad you feel better… what happened on the Office? 🙂
Estela @ Weekly Bite says
I hate rough nights 🙁 Hopefully the day will go by fast for you 🙂
Lisa (Lisa at Home) says
That is the worst! Breakfast looks yum though!
Stacey@http://stacey-healthylife.blogspot.com/ says
I slept horrible too and I also curse the horrible lighting in the early mornings for my oatmeal. Hopefully the day get’s better.
I thought it was strange you were having ice tea so late. I just figured it wouldn’t affect you.
jen trinque @ recipes for creativity says
I love the Simpsons but hardly watch it anymore! I’ll have to find last night’s episode and check it out. I think the coffee today is a black hole, into which your good night’s sleep was sucked! I didn’t sleep well either, crazy loud rain all night long!
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
Ugh– sleepless nights are no good! I hate how senstive my body can be to caffeine– tea would keep me awake too!
Have a good Monday!
Nicole says
It’s funny, I probably wouldn’t have noticed but the oatmeal didn’t pop as much in the indoor lighting. Of course it’s hard to make oatmeal look bad in any lighting 🙂
Joanne says
I just read about the bike accident. That is my biggest fear and… that I will crash into Ted. I know he won’t crash into me, but it seems anytime I’m determined not to hit something or aim for something – bam! – what ever it is goes RIGHT to where I DIDNT want to go. Subconscious taking over I guess.
Good thing neither of you were hurt bad, although Matt’s shoulder dislocation didn’t sound too pleasant 🙁 and… I can’t believe you were able to do yoga with a lumpy bottom. Good for you. Hope it feels better soon.
Erin (Travel, Eat, Repeat) says
The Simpsons is one of those shows I never sit down planning to watch–and never seen when new episodes air–but always really laugh at when it happens to be on TV. It was universally loved at hostels are Australia and NZ!
Deva (Voracious Vorilee) says
Last night’s Simpson’s episode was a riot! I am sorry that you didn’t get the sleep you were hoping for last night – that always stinks. I was awakened by one of my cats a half hour before the alarm was set this morning – I think he just wanted to snuggle – our apartment was COLD this morning!
shannon (the daily balance) says
just another reason to make sure you have a rockin breakfast every day — makes those rough nights easier to wak up to 😉
Rose-Anne says
Mondays–DOH! Here’s hoping for a smooth day, in spite of the rough night. I’ve been indulging in afternoon coffee and even though I love it, it definitely affects my sleep later that day. I’m sure tea with dinner would to the same thing to me! DOH.
rustique says
Aww, I hate tossing and turning–hopefully tonight will be better for you. And I loved the Simpsons when I was little (so precocious)–especially the openings! Whenever the repeated an opening, my siblings and I would call out “Seen it!”. Guess it was a novel way of developing our memory.
Cara says
Sorry about your crummy night’s sleep! Those are the worst, especially on Sunday night/Monday morning when you know you have the whole week ahead of you.
I’ve been a KERF follower for a while and have never commented, but wanted to tell you that I tried Overnight Oats for the first time today and LOVED THEM! I’m lactose intolerant so I used hemp milk and coconut milk yogurt with my oats, a little Bob’s Red Mill 7 Grain, and banana. This morning I added chopped strawberries, kiwi, and blackberries. YUM!
Dietician question: I didn’t add any nuts or nut butter today (which I usually do with my hot oats) because I brought a PBJ for lunch. Is there enough protein in ~1/2 c yogurt to count or should I think of adding another protein source to my breakfast?
Kath says
Glad you liked ’em!
I think there’s probably enough protein in the yogurt. I add nuts for some healthy satisfying fats, but adding them is up to you and your needs.
Caitlin says
OKay, this is random and has nothing to do with this specific post…but I am going to ask anyway!
I have noticed that you have great, clear skin. I was curious as to if what you eat affects your skin? (not necessarily “you” but just in general) My skin has always been pretty clear but lately it has not been so great. I am wondering if my change in diet has something to do with it!?
thanks!
love the bowl, by the way!
Kath says
I haven’t noticed a correlation with greens or anything specific about my diet. But when I was much heavier my skin definitely took a turn for the worse. I think weight/hormones are much more of an indicator of skin than actual foods. I also think Bare Minerals are awesome!
Caitlin says
thanks for your reply!
Allison says
it’s a full eclipse (the coffee foam – or lack thereof)
Christina says
I have the same WS placemat 🙂 I need to find it, I had packed it away for winter!
I LOVE the office and 30 rock. Lets hope they keep new episodes on for at least a month this time!
Veggielady4life says
No fun when you can’t get any good rest. Makes the day so much longer. But at least you had a yummy breakfast! Those butterscotch chips look delicious!
Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin says
Butterscotch chips make my mouth water.. 🙂
Cait (Cait's Plate) says
Ooooh no! I HATE tossing and turning, it’s the absolute worst. My co-worker just came over and told me she had the same problem due to a late-night soda! I hope this day flies by for you so you can get some REST tonight!
Glad your oats were good! Have a great day 🙂
Jenn (www. j3nn.net ) says
Yes, curses to dark lighting for food photography! Your pictures came out great, though.
I hate bad nights of sleep!! Makes me cranky all day. Hope your bruises feel better soon! 🙂
Jenn
maria @ Chasing the Now says
Ah, sorry Kath, but I gotta disagree about The Office. I thought the funniest part of the whole episode was when Kevin says, “Well now you know how I feel sitting next to the M&M’s all day!”
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
Good luck with your day girl! Hopefully you’ll get some rest tonight 😉
Lauren says
Going in to work/school so early sure does suck, but I much prefer it if it means that I get off earlier as well. I love having the whole afternoon to do with as I please!
Bizzle says
And why is Ms. Karen renting? Did I miss something? Uh, I’m so nooooosy.
Kath says
Because she’s moving with us to Charlottesville (to be our business bookkeeper) and doesn’t want to sell. She’s hoping to rent it out.
Amanda @ Cakes and Ale says
Yikes… I didn’t sleep well last night either. Too much wine at my husbands birthday party last night! (And funfetti cake, which is like a sugar bomb!)
Ilana says
I haven’t watched the Simpson’s in YEARS, but that’s quite a recommendation!
I love that tablecloth, a&& I hope your butt feels better soon!
Laura says
I spy….JAVA
Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter says
I’ve never put cottage cheese in my oats, but it must be god!
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
yikes, sounds like a rough night! i bet you sleep like a baby tonight though 🙂
Amber K says
I have the Simpsons on the DVR waiting to watch it with the hubby,. I’m so glad it’s going to be good!
Sorry you didn’t get good sleep last night. =( I suffer from insomnia and I don’t eat or drink anything with caffeine in it. It has gotten infinitely better!
Camille says
Could the coffee be a full moon?
Hope you sleep better tonight 🙁
Also, Argus stole the show on 30 Rock this week!
Kath says
Argus was HILARIOUS!!!
skinnyrunner says
ive never seen 30 rock. maybe its time to get with it huh?
Food Makes Fun Fuel says
I totally missed The Simpsons. God bless, Hulu
Sarah says
Caffeine has been doing the same thing to me. I’ve swapped it out in favor of Green Monsters. So far, so good!
Steph- Exercise Physiologist & Artist! says
I am sorry to hear you had a ruff night!
Just try to think about how well you are going to sleep tonight. That usually helps me get through my sleep deprived days.
Hope you have a great day!!
Paige(Running Around Normal) says
Eek – I hate sleepless nights obviously. So sorry you had one 🙁 Hope you enjoy the new shift work!
Jil @ Peace, Love & Munchies says
Aw, sorry you didn’t get much sleep – hope you have a good day!
Shawna @ Balancing Me says
I’d say that coffee scene is one of your wide awake eyes last night…sorry! 🙁
We didn’t sleep well here either. It was very hot up here in MA, and we don’t have central air so no air conditioners are installed yet. Too hot for sleeping!
Hoping we can both perk up to get through the day – I’m totally draggin’ now.
Lizz (Leading the Good Life) says
I didn’t sleep well last night, either. But mine was because I had HORRIBLE dreams!! I woke up in a panic twice – heart racing and sweaty. Yuck.
Anyway, your oats look great! I’m trying to imagine what they are like with cottage cheese in them. Kind of like cream cheese in pastries? (the cheesy/salty + sweet combo?)
Kath says
Yes – like a cheese danish!
Claire says
That doesn’t sound like a great nights worth of sleep, i’m sorry! I hope that things are going better by now. At least the oats look great!
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
i used to be a huge simpsons fan but stopped watching a few years ago. then my husband worked on the movie and the ride for universal, we started watching again, and then stopped again. was last night’s worthy of giving it yet another go?
Kath says
Last night’s was the best in years.
Diana @ frontyardfoodie says
Aww! I hate those kind of nights. Nothing like oatmeal and coffee to bring you back around.
I hope you have a great day!
runnerforever says
Oh man, sorry about the rough night. Hope your day gets better!
Leanne says
Love that Old Chub beer! I don’t know if Oskar Blues is a national chain or not, but there is definitely one out here in Colorado and it’s such a fun place to go and listen to live music.
Lisa says
Sorry you didn’t sleep well. I didn’t either. I crashed on my bike Saturday and the bruises on my leg and arm kept me up all night. 🙁
Jessica says
I keep reading online about how soaking oats prior to eating them is so much healthier, and I was wondering about your take on that. I figured it sounded easy enough, so I tried it (soaking them in water in the fridge over night, then cooking in the morning with milk) and was less than thrilled. The texture was kind of gross!
Kath says
I personally don’t think it’s necessary..
Jenny says
Here’s hoping for better sleep tonight!
Heather (www.runningwithsass.com) says
I can never sleep after I have sweet tea at dinner, I hate that feeling!
emily says
love love love the oats! also, have you seen this?
