First day back to Body Pump in ages (although I did my own BP circuit in Jamaica!). Class was PACKED. I mean packed to the BRIM! All of the equipment was taken. But there was also lots of energy, so this was a good thing! Chris led the class nonstop today – no breaks between songs. Sure got a good workout.
Lunch was a tribute to Jamaica: a pineapple salad and seafood on crackers!
And by seafood I mean a tin of sardines in a mustard sauce. They were great with the buttery cornbread crackers!
Salad was great too – lots of veggies, pineapple, olive oil, honey, peanuts.
Time to get back to work!
Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
My gym was PACKED today too! Lines for ALL of the cardio equipment and difficulty getting time to do sets in the weight area!
Yesterday was a different story! There were only 4 of us in boot camp class and I loved the individual attention!
katie @KatieDid says
Absolutely love that tan plate, gorgeous!
Susan (Oliepants) says
I had a tuna salad with carrots yesterday and now I’m craving the sardine version – delicious!
I have no comment on the exercising as of now! 🙂 I’ve been having a lazy start to 2012. And a baby. So not that lazy I suppose! 🙂
Maria @ Sinfully Nutritious says
I just LOVE that dish your seafood salad was on. Enormous salads were on the menu for lunch today in our house too. Although, it is getting cold, I think it will be veggie chili and cornbread for dinner. Perfect meal for my husband watching the Winter Classic Hockey game.
Have a wonderful day!
Jaima says
Yesterday was a ghost town at my gym. I have body pump tonight and after reading this I think I’ll plan to get there extra early to claim a spot. I’ve never had an instructor not take breaks between songs. Sounds intense!
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
ohhh yes, the new year’s gym madness!! glad you got a great pump session in!
Khushboo says
My jump was fairly empty this morning….I’m not complaining but I sure was surprised!
Khushboo says
Darn autocorrect, ‘gym’ not ‘jump’
Emily says
I couldn’t even get a parking spot at mine! Grrr… As a regular gym go-er, I can’t wait until some folks have given up on their goals, so I can get my work done.
Yes – that sounds terrible, but GEEZ!
It certainly doesn’t help that my gym has way more equipment than parking spots. 🙂
Jess says
Yeah that does sound terrible. How about being helpful and encouraging of people trying to start a new year on the right foot? It is negative attitudes and being made to feel like I didn’t belong (because I wasn’t a ‘regular’) that made me quit my first gym and join a better one. You should want MORE people to stay commited to the gym, because it is new money that allows for expansion, and perhaps a better gym for you.
Just my 2 cents.
Jill says
Ha- that comment totally reminded me of my crabby meathead ex-boyfriend who would get pissed off every January when more people started going to “his” gym. (I always lovingly called him a meathead- totally the obsessive bodybuilder type. The *crabby* part is why he’s now my ex 😉
Jill says
Now that I think about it, he was also the kind of person who looked down on people who didn’t exercise regularly. Ironic, huh? 😛
Emily says
I definitely do not disagree with you at all. And I am working on it. And like I said, it is partly a parking issue too. (Plus when I wrote this comment originally, I had to leave the gym because there was not ANY parking spots, which is frustrating!)
I definitely never show anyone that they shouldn’t be there, I just get my workoutdone and go home. But its something I am trying to work on, because you are right, we definitely (as a group of gym go-ers) SHOULD be more encouraging of people to reach their goals, etc.
kristen @ verbs and vignettes says
i’m hesitating about what times to go back to the gym now. it seems like it always gets a huge rush right after new year’s… people making resolutions to get in better shape & whatnot. 😉 i might just stick to some pilates in my living room for a little while.
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
I’m glad people want to get fit or think it’s the right thing, but it’s sad that it dwindles off after a little bit. It should be a lifestyle. Oh well, I’m glad you got some good lifting in today! Enjoy the rest of your day Kath!
Angel7 says
I love the plate that the seafood and crackers are on!

Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
What was it about those crackers that Karen didn’t like? They sound great!
KathEats says
Knowing her, they were “too sweet” which means I’ll like whatever it is!
Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says
I always find I see a few more runners and walkers after New Year’s…I passed a group of three walkers along with my usual dog walking crew! A blustery day here…my hubbie opted for the gym.
Lexi @ A Spoonful of Sunshine says
Wow, what a wonderful looking lunch. Jamaican me jealous, mon! 🙂
KathEats says
Ha!
kathleen @ the daily crumb says
my gym was empty this morning! so NOT what i expected. guess everyone is enjoying one last day of vacation.
lunch looks delish!
lynn @ the actor's diet says
i love eating with a nod to vacation…
Annie says
what brand of sardines are you enjoying?
KathEats says
Bar Harbor. Found them at Whole Foods. Really good! (in fact, they might be herring and not sardines)
Mattie @ Comfy and Confident says
Pineapple in January. What a great idea!
My gym is so so so packed. You have to wait for a machine. I am going to run outside until the New Year Madness ends.
Katie says
Nothing like trying to find a space in the gym during the first week of January. 🙂 And those buttery cornbread crackers sound delicious!
Cait's Plate says
Those crackers look awesome! What brand are they??
KathEats says
I forget – but the box is in last night’s dinner post
Cara @ I Don't Believe in Diets says
That looks like a delicious salad. My grocery store used to carry cornbread crackers and i loved them. I haven’t seen them lately. I hope they make it back because you just made me want them more!
Cheryl says
Loving the solid surfaces under your dishes.. like your tables, the floors etc… really makes the photo’s pop. My gym was loaded too… think I will move my workout time to 6am instead of 7 and see if I can beat the crowd. Can’t stand to wait for use of the weight machines… once i am in my groove.. I gotta keep moving.
Anna @ On Anna's Plate says
Hahaha…it always cracks me up how crowded the gym is for the first couple of weeks in January 🙂
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
Hahah my gym was crazy busy today too! Yum! Lunch looks great 😀
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
My gym is getting to be pretty busy again too, which as an instructor, is a great thing! Sounds like Pump was fabulous and sweaty for you today! 🙂
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
ooo pineapple with sardines sounds like an interesting combo!
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
Pineapple is so delish. I could eat it all the time. Thanks for the reminder to pick some up.
Glad you had a nice class despite it being full of those who are “Resolving”. 🙂
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
Today I’m thankful for my peaceful home gym in my basement so I don’t need to fight for gym equipment!
Mom says
Our parking lot was full too!
Stephanie @ Ultra Ambitious says
I’ve always wondered if pineapple with salad would taste good, that picture makes me wanna give it a try! And gyms after New Years are crazzy! I worked Front Desk at a gym when I was 16 and January-March is a mad house…and then it’s back to normal when people abort their New Years Resolutions haha.
Lauren B says
Those cornbread crackers are a favorite in my house too! So salty-sweet-crunchy perfect! I think I might go pop a couple right now!
Angela @ Happy Fit Mama says
I’m loving pineapple in my salads right now. Stocking up on my citrus fruits these days to help ward off any bad cold ju-ju.
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
The salad looks yummy. I’ve never had fresh pineapple on salad but I do have one from a Christmas gift basket that I must use. Sounds good!
Ellie@Fit for the Soul says
I really need to get a can of sardines and give that a try! And I’m sure the gym will be super packed till the end of January 😛
Sonya says
I exercise outside so I don’t have to get squeezed like your sardines on crackers. I have to agree that a packed gym gets a little under my skin, but more power to you if you want to get in shape. I tell my friends start in November if can and you will be ahead of the game by January.
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
Great light when you do your photos on the porch. Even makes the sardines look good. That’s a tall order!
Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning says
Ouch, that first Bodypump class after being away for a bit is brutal! But congrats for making it through (even if you had to battle the resolutioners for a spot!)
Kerry says
My gym is my house (treadmill, just dance and weights!) so it doesn’t get a new year rush!
Stacy @ Say It With Sprinkles says
The gym is always so packed this time of year! Usually it’s just frustrating to feel like you have to fight for machines so I’m glad extra people just made for extra energy in your case today!
