Build me a screened-in porch!
And since I tipped you off yesterday…here are some progress shots of our new screened-in porch!! We learned at our last house how much we absolutely love outdoor porch living, yet the mosquitos here make summer enjoyment – when you want to be out there the most (!) – impossible. Our house had a little back stoop, but you couldn’t really do more than stand out there to gaze at the yard. When this is over, we’ll have 2.5 season entertaining room for blogging, dinners, and relaxing!
Allie@LiveLaughEat says
Weeeee!! Porch is lookin’ good.
Stacy @ Every Little Thing says
Wow, exciting renovations! Looks like it’s coming along. I had a screened-in porch when I lived in Lynchburg – Virginia is a great state to have one!

I wish someone would build me a stack of pancakes for breakfast! Those look delicious and so fluffy! 🙂
Wow, your screened in porch is going to look beautiful!! So much progress has been made in such a short period time. I cannot wait to see the finished project!
katie @KatieDid says

KathEats says
Oh heavens no – we hired a contractor 🙂
Khushboo says
We are having some work done at home right now and while all the noise is a pain, I am looking forward to the finished product!

I’m pretty sure the ONLY thing that can beat out a stack of pancakes is a screened-in porch!!! That is so exciting!!! You are completely making that house a home and I love it 🙂
Cat @Breakfast to Bed says
That porch is going to be so beautiful. Also? bug free.
Madeline says
Awesome! My parents have a screened in porch – one of my favorite places in the world!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
Pan-seared bananas are awesome – I love they way they can amp up a meal.
That screened in porch is going to be so nice in the spring with a glass of wine.
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Oooh lookin’ good! A screened in porch will definitely be useful for natural light in your photos (something that I always struggle with – especially when it’s now dark here before and after work!) Can’t wait to see the final project!

I adore porches as well! That will be so nice for entertaining and eating outside regularly!

Kristin @ eat healthy. be happy. live well. says
That looks awesome already! We have horrible gnats up our way, so we might have to screen-in our back porch one day. Bugs stink!!!
Elizabeth says
I envy a screened in porch! I would live out there all the time!
Amanda at the red table says
That is so exciting for you, Kath! What a great little addition. I’d love to build one off the back of our home too some day!
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
The porch is going to be amazing. I LOVE porches in the summer time. I think I might have to give in a buy some of that Kodiak cake mix…
Kinley @ Better Off Barefoot says
Having a screened in porch is one of my wishes for my future home. My house now has nothing… not even a nice back patio! Maybe someday!
Andrea says
Screened porches are da bomb! Sooo much better than having to swat at flies trying to land on your dinner and slapping mosquitos trying to suck your blood! AND with 3 sides screened you should get great breezes! AWESOME!
Sana says
Your food photography is going to look awesome on the poach
kathleen @ the daily crumb says
wow! the porch is looking fantastic. we love outdoor living as well, but the mosquitos are brutal during the chicago summer. screened in porch may be our solution.
beautiful stack of pancakes!
Lauren says
Oh heavens, I am filled with envy. Southeastern VA has mosquitoes bigger than your head….I’d lovelovelove a screened in porch. Sigh.
Laura @ Backstage Balance says
Very nice screen porch! Will you have a stairway to the backyard extending off of it?
KathEats says
Yup!
Susan H. @ the food allergy chronicles says
One of the first projects on our new home was building a very large deck. It’s like having another room…great for entertaining. I love having my breakfast and lunch out there on sunny days. It’s not screened in however, with wasp season in August, I wish it was! You will truly enjoy your ‘new room’.
~Christy @ wonderofallthings says
Progressing nicely! Fun to see the process. We could use one of those as well, given that the mosquito is Minnesota’s unofficial state bird 😉
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
If I ever buy a house, I would love a nice porch in the front and back. I never see houses like that here!
Jennifer says
How nice!!!!! I can’t wait to see it finished. I bet you’ll spend most of your time out there. 🙂
Nikki says
Love screened in porches!! I was going to buy Kodiak cakes last week and saw your post regarding the discount and decided to wait. Thx for thinking of your readers : )
Paige(Running Around Normal) says
Oh I would love a screened in porch! Growing up, my parents’ house had one, and we used that room so much during the spring/summer/fall months. It’s really like an extension of the house 🙂

Very cool!! What a great addition (literally!) to your home.
Nikki T says
I am so jealous of your soon-to-be screened in porch! I want one!!
Amanda says
That porch will be so nice once the weather warms up again. My parents built a screened in porch at their last house and I loved hanging out on it in the summer.
Love the addition of the pan-seared banana on your breakfast! Makes it taste to decadent. 🙂
Marie@feedingfive says
Love the progress pictures. My husband would love to do this project. Ever since we bought our house he’s become a carpenter. Learned everything from books and the internet. I have no talent whatsoever in home improvements and would hire out everything. It’s a huge time commitment. Can’t wait to see the end result. Screened in porches are so Southern, very cool.
Rachael @ FreshlyMinted says
Love the porch!
I was shocked to find Kodiak Cakes original AND brownie and cookie mix at our local Big Lots for $3.00! The mixes are hard to find in our area, so needless to say, I stocked up (the husband was rather ashamed at the checkout…but I was too excited about my treasures to care that we looked like we were preparing for the apocalypse ; )
Ali @ Peaches and Football says
I love home renovations. MY family completed tore out two of the houses I grew up in and re-did them from floor to ceiling. Took tons of pictures and it was so much fun to get things just the way we wanted!
Alison says
I love it! I am so jealous! Living in SC, I love being outside but the skeeters make it terrible at times. We hope to add one to our home one day too. I’m excited to see the final product. Y’all are gonna love it.

The screened – in porch will be wonderful for spring, summer and fall! It’ll be so nice to have somewhere to sit and eat outside with no insects bothering you 😉

Love the screened-in porch. Mosquitos are a hassle here, as well. I get eaten alive if I’m not careful! Next year we are probably going to use a lot of citronella torches.

The wood grains looks so beautiful! I can’t wait to see the finished porch 😀
TeenyLittleSuperChef says
Whoever came up with the idea of pan-searing a banana to go with pancakes was a freakin genius. There’s really no other way to eat them anymore. Except maybe frozen and covered with chocolate, but that’s probably not the best thing to have for breakfast… or is it 🙂
Your porch looks really cool. How fun! I’m sure it’ll be even more awesome once it’s totally done. I can’t wait to see the finished product. Good luck!
KathEats says
That would be Miss Healthy Tipping Point!
Katie @ Plates and Paste says
Awesome! Can’t wait to see the final product!

Wowww that looks like a loooot of hard work. But it’s starting to pay off and look really good! 😀 I love porches b/c they make me think of what the simple life might look like.

So excited for this coupon! Have you tried other kodiak products or just the pancake mix? Do you know whether both mixes are whole grain? Thanks!
KathEats says
They are both whole grain. I’ve tried the others – they are good!!
Angel7 says
I love the porch, Kath!
We want a deck so bad, and will get one in the future sometime. Right now, off of our two sliding glass doors are only three steps, so it would actually be nice to have a deck to sit on.

YUMMY! Those pancakes look amazing…I definitely need to take advantage of that coupon! Can’t wait to see what your porch looks like when it is finished.
Natasha says
Thanks to you I made Kodiak waffles with pumpkin for breakfast today. My 3 kids gobbled them up. Our local grocery carries the mix (Rouse’s) and so does Fresh Market.
Brittnie (A Joy Renewed) says
Making pancakes for dinner 🙂 All I have is frozen banana… will these pan sear well or do you only use fresh?
KathEats says
I’ve only tried fresh..
