Hola!
ServSafe Day II is going by fast. Wish I could take the test and be certified but I didn’t have the chance to pay for it so I am just a fly on the wall…er that’s unsanitary! We learned all about bugs ( the creepy crawly kind) before lunch. Aparently if you see a German cockroach in the daytime you have a serious problem. Goodness knows how many I’ve seen on the KERF Farm!
Lunch today was a hot dog and hamburger bar with chili, potatoes, fruit and cookies. A little bird told me this yesterday so I brought a yogurt to have instead of a burger/dog. Practicing some ethical eating.
I made a great little salad with burger condiments (lettuce, tomato, pickle), potatoes and hot sauce! (Went back for a few more taters!)
Plus a pile of fruit and my Stonyfield Pumpkin Pie yogurt, which I garnished with some almonds from my bag at the last minute. Yum!
Skipped a cookie today cause I tasted them yesterday 🙂
Soooooooooo excited for the weekend! I’m calling it the KERF Spa Weekend and my plans include: a workout, a bubble bath, kale and sweet potato, yoga, a new pancake, juice, A MASSAGE, a movie, grocery shopping, pumpkin (I’ve been out for a week!) and my longest run to date.
Wheeeeeeeeeeee!
Ash @ Good Taste. Healthy Me says

Gosh I don’t blame you for bringing your own yogurt, I sure wouldn’t eat hamburgers or hot dogs, blerh! Partly cos they’re so processed and partly cos I don’t eat red meat 🙂

hey kath,
i LOVE how the iPhone pics
turn out so well!
i’m dying to get one myself.
it seems like it makes blogging on the go
so easy!
where did you get yours,
if i may ask?
i have a friend in seattle who might be able to
pick one up for me at a price better than i could get here in canada…
laura dishes says
Hey Alison! I’m guessing that Kath got hers at AT&T. Your friend can get the 3Gs at AT&T or Apple, BUT (major but), it probably won’t be $199 if you don’t sign up for a contract when you buy it.
Kath says
At Best Buy, and I do have AT&T. You can get the one I have for $99 now. Best purchase ever!
Tracey says
Good for you for bringing yogurt instead of eating the hamburger or hot dog. Not sure I could have resisted!
Jasmine @ Eat Move Write says
The food looks so good! I agree with above poster, those pics are amazing on the iphone. My hubby just got one refurbished. He hasn’t stopped playing with it since he got it.
Amberly says
Good job on choosing awesome food. That hamburger/hot dog/ chili pic looked scary. Thanks for your blog, you help inspire me.

Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
way to plan ahead! i always feel self-conscious when bringing my own food… i should take a lesson from you!
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
That sounds like one fantastic weekend!!!
And good idea about bringing your own food to supplement the lunch.

That sounds like the PERFECT weekend. I hope the massage is AFTER that long run 😉

Your weekend plans sound amazing! Especially the massage part 🙂
Heather says
Sounds like you have got a great weekend planned – I’m jealous of your massage.
I like your lunch much better than a hamburger/hot dog. Looks like you made a great lunch without it!
Christy says
The food presentation is incredible! Everything always looks very pretty!
Susan says
Potatoes on salads are the BEST! Enjoy your amahzing weekend Kath!
Kelly says
I love how creative you are with food. Had I been at that lunch, I don’t think I would have thought to make a salad with the burger toppings and would have just gone for the burger. I love seeing all of your creative concoctions!! Keep ’em coming! 🙂
Morgan @ Healthy Happy Place says
Love the pumpkin pie flavor from Stonyfield. I have it packed in my lunch today, too!
megan says
i love hot dogs. i always have for some reason. I”ll almost always choose a hot dog over a hamburger, and i don’t have any desire to know what it’s made out of 🙂
but i like yogurt too, so i still think your lunch looks good 🙂
JENNA says
You made really healthy choices at lunch! It’s nice you thought ahead and planned it all out…most people would have just ate the meat for convenience.
your weekend sounds perfect! i hope its a good one!
Cole says
Cockroaches are horrifying 🙁 But that fruit salad looks so fresh and amazing. I have such a weakness for fruit.
lisa says
Your weekend sounds so fun! Enjoy the long(er) run 🙂
Cynthia (It All Changes) says
Good thinking on your part to pack ahead. I’m not a big burgers and dogs fan either.
Megan says
I think i’d have a panic attack hearing so much about germs and bugs!! Id end up using purell as salad dressing. And then being awkwardly drunk/possibly dead…?
Joanne says
Sounds like a great weekend. Yeah Massages! I’m getting one too after a long run in the morning. Can’t remember if I scheduled a hot stone or just a long deep tissue? I just can’t wait to find out!
Have a great workout, great run and super weekend.
Katharine says
Sounds like the perfect weekend! Can’t wait to read the recap. 😉
Emily Eats and Exercises says
I still haven’t been able to find that pumpkin yogurt. 🙁 The fruit salad looks great – fruit salad is always so much better when someone else does all the work.
Sarah (OC2Seattle) says
Sounds like a great weekend! Ah, bubble baths – they’re my almost nightly wind-down ritual.
Emmalinda says
While I am not an entomologist, I do work at an insect/invertebrate zoo and have pretty decent roach identification skills. Going by the roach pics you’ve posted on the blog (ones you’ve seen in your house), I’m pretty sure they are American cockroaches, not the dreaded German ones. (Why exactly is it so bad to see German roaches in the daytime? I’d love to know!)
Happy spa weekend!
Kath says
Oh, well they are both horrid! The photos she showed sure looked like the ones I have. We have both brown and black. She said if you see one during the day, it’s probably old and sick and the healthy ones come out at night.
Courtney and Whitney says
Hey Kath,
My sister and I really love ur blog, and that is what sparked us to create a blog=) We have had ours running for a few months and still only have a few followers. Is there any way you could mention us in your next post? http://twutritionist.blogspot.com/
Thanks.

bridget says
so if I add your blog to my igoogle page so that count me as a follower?
Lauren says
I used to find cockroaches all the time in my old apartment. Often enough that I managed to get kind of used to killing them. Blegh.
Jessica @ How Sweet says
Your weekend sounds so awesome!! 🙂
Cyclist Kate says
Oh my gosh, that sounds like SUCH a fabulous weekend!!! Maybe I’ll get inspired to do the same!
Jenn (www. j3nn.net ) says

Sara says
wait, i’m a little confused, why can’t/won’t you eat hotdogs or hamburgers? it seems like you’ve had them on the blog before — is one really that bad for you?
Kath says
I eat them, but I’m working to eat mostly organic/sustainable meats. I still eat meat in restaurants or when I’m a guest at a house that isn’t organic, but since I had the option of bringing a yogurt today, I chose to do that.
Allison K says
I’ve only seen a cockroach in real life once. It was in mexico, hiding behind the door to the shower room. It flew at my head and i jumped around and screamed.
Maybe we don’t have them in Idaho becuase it’s too cold? and not humid?
The Paris Food Blague says
sounds like a fun spa weekend. what movie?
way to be ethical! plus chili hot dogs sound kinda gross.
I just bought some kale and sweet potato today….can’t wait to see what you do with it
a tres bientot!

Hi Kath!
I mean this in the most genuine way so pleast don’t take offense! I love your blog and think you are an awesome and inspirational person!
I am just wondering if your meals fill you up. You seem to work out A LOT, and a lot of your times your meals do seem wholesome, but other times they seem kind of small, like today for example. I am just wondering if it fills you up! I am just trying to figure out how I should eat with my amount of exercise. Does this make sense?
Kath says
Hey K, today’s lunch was small (cause I was kinda stuck in a pinch) and I did get hungrier earlier than normal. But yesterday’s lunch was sizeable and kept me full all afternoon. I usually have a big breakfast, a medium lunch, a 200-ish calorie snack and a medium-to-small dinner. I’ve found that schedule works really well for me. If my lunches do seem small to you, I think in terms of calories per day I’m getting plenty.
Angie says
Love your lunch combo, Kath!!
Your school meals have gotten me thinking more about food in schools. I think that our areas schools are really doing better than most in providing healthier options. But, some definitely don’t seem to be making much progress.
If you haven’t seen it, you might be interested in this blog- Fed Up: The School Lunch Project. A teacher is eating school lunch every day and blogging the meals. It is eye-opening.

Hi Kath!
Had to report that we tried your mother-in-law’s Chicken and White Bean chili! Yum! My kids didn’t even protest too much. 😉
Added lots of cilantro, since my husband and I are cilantro nuts.
I posted the recipe, review and photos on my blog too. Check it out! 🙂
Thanks for sharing!
Kath says
Oh fun!! I will!
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
Another FABULOUS spread!!! And it’s so neat about everything you’ve been learning. But you definitely deserve a Spa Weekend! 🙂
Laine says
I, too, try to only eat Meat of Known Origin (as in, knowing the farm it came from.) I’m pretty lucky to have a good supply of pastured pork and grass fed beef nearby (south of Boston.)
I might have a spa weekend. I got a bunch of stuff at Lush Cosmetics in Harvard Square today, and probably should test it out. : )
K says
Potatoes and hot sauce?! Nice choice!! Woohoo for an exciting weekend – enjoy 🙂
Julie says
I still havent seen the pumpkin yogurt anywhere! I am so jealous!
