Nothing exciting to report on this morning, except the crunchy MaraNatha AB was good 🙂 I only had one drink last night (well maybe 1.5 when you count sips of the husband’s and sips of the second one I didn’t finish) and I definitely felt icky all night long. So annoying that I can’t enjoy a little wine!!
Today’s oat combo was almond-centered again:
- 1/3 cup oat/milk/water combo
- 1/2 small banana
- Pinch kamutberries (running low!)
- Tsp almond liquor
- Wheat germ
- Toasted almonds
- AB
+ Tea
Since we were out last night, I decided to bump my workout to the post-Organic slot. It looks like this weekend will be more relaxing than the last – hopefully I can knock off most of my studying today and enjoy the rest. We have a FILM CREW following us on Saturday for the Current TV story, so that will definitely make things interesting. Tonight’s going to be a laid back night.
Off to take a quiz in Organic!!!! Hopefully I can remember the difference between an ether and an ester!
yadi says
Recently, red wine gives me migranes and alters my sleep to the point where I have a great aversion to it… So sad! I love the taste and used to make Sangria often. Crunchy AB, yummmoOO!
Foodie (Fab and Delicious Food) says
Good luck on your quiz!
hk says
good luck!! I’m SO jealous of your MaraNatha AB find- the best!!!
Biz319 says
Good luck – you’ll do great! I can’t believe how cheap that AB is – lucky!
Not sure what CurrentTV is though?
Amanda says
Yadi, I’ve found I cannot drink reds anymore, either, as it triggers my migraines. I do fine with whites, though.
Everyone wish all of us in and around Houston luck!!! Our buddy Ike is on his way, that big ol’ monster.
Christie i. says
Oats look good as always!
Good luck with the film crew!
madison (follow my weigh) says
mm i wish i can have a bowl of that this morning!
VeggieGirl says
Almond-centered oats are always a winner, in my opinion! 🙂
Good luck with the quiz, and have fun with the film crew!! Exciting!!
Shelby says
I love love love almond butter…especially on toast! Your oatmeal looks so good, what do kamut berries taste like and do you have to cook them?
Little Black Dress says
Kath, good luck on your quiz but more importantly have fun with the film crew! We are all so excited for you- you are really on your way. You are certainly the star of the blog world for a good reason- your kindness, your honesty, and your enthusiasm. I hope you and Matt feel just as excited as we are that things are really happening for you because you are such a positive role model.
Keep up the good work and thank you a million times!
Justy2003 says
Amanda, I’m in Houston, too! Good luck with the storm! This will be my first “big one” since moving to Houston, but I’m “hunkering down” in my apartment! Stay safe!
ModelBehavior says
I’m suprised you liked the maranatha AB kath, I just got it to try and was really oily and didn’t taste like anything…maybe I got a bad jar??
shawna says
Congrats on the film crew and have a blast! I’m going to have to read up and see what that’s all about.
And your oatmeal looks yummy as always!
Jessica says
Film crew, TV?, What’s that all about? Sounds like a lot of fun though!
Teddy says

I’ve never tried that brand of PB and AB. I always see it in the stores. I’ll have to try that oen next time. Good luck on your quiz! I always heard that Organic chem is one of the toughest classes to take. Which completely scares me because I have to take it. What do you think of it so far??
C. says
For those of you that get headaches from red wine – try French reds. They contain a very low amount of sulfites (usually what causes the headaches/ stuffy noses the next day). I’ve gotten so used to French reds that I can’t drink anything from California anymore – makes me feel vile the next day!
Meghann says
Film Crew?
When I’m bored I like to pretend a film crew is following me around and that what I’m doing is actually entertainment for someone out there. 🙂
Ange C. says
To anyone in Houston/ Texas…y’all take care and be careful! My family is in LA, and Gustav hit Baton Rouge really bad, so I am no stranger to hurricanes. 🙂
I’m in Dallas, so we expect lots of rain and wind, but nothing like what more southern parts will get. STAY SAFE!
Anne P says
wait, film crew?? i didn’t know about that! are they just doing a profile on you and the blog or something?? how fun!
Christin S says
Good to know about french red wines, C.!! I am in California, so that’s pretty much the wine I drink, and I am definitely a migraine sufferer, so I’m gonna hafta try your suggestion!
Julz says
A FILM CREW!!! Weeeee!! How COOL and exciting is that! I’m so f-ing psyched that the MATH is gonna be on TV! OMG… Wait are you two going to have a ReAlity show???!!! Woowww… That’d be ridiculous!! (Can’t you tell it’s Friday? My brain is all adventurous, hahaha)
Man, I just lub the MATH 😉
Tina says
Film crew!? I want to hear all about it! So exciting!
cb says
Now I am not sure if it is creamy or crunchy but just last week I bought a big jar of MaraNatha Almond Butter at Costco for about $7.80!
Andrea says
love the oat combo! i bought the maranatha AB (regular/not chunky) and it’s so oily yuckkk. i should try the kind you bought!
Kinder says
I cannot drink anymore either, it is not worth the icky feeling it gives me, so I just opt out! I figure I am saving myself both the icky feeling and the extra calories (=
runjess says
Kath, I have a question of DIRE importance:
What kind of camera do you have? My camera is broken, so I will be camera shopping this weekend. Your pictures are always so beautiful and clear, so I must know. 🙂
HangryPants says
What’s up with the TV show? Sounds exciting. Will it be something that is local to N.C. or can I see it up here in R.I.?
Christie says
I guess i am not th eonly one who doesn tknow about the TV thing … whatever it is sounds exciting!
HangryPants says
Kath, I am not sure if anyone told you about this already, but here is a link to a great discussion about food blogs and eating disorders.

What is this jazz about a film crew???
I know everyone else asked and you know I hate repeating other people’s comments…. I just mostly wanted to share my new link ; )

KATH!
This is for you and any others hoping to get Splenda out of the house FOREVER.
Haha, I found this online and it’s hilarious and terrifying at the same time:

Come on, everyone! Go Splenda-free!!!
😀
Heather says
That has to be the best deal on AB ever!! I haven’t found it anywhere for less than $8 around here.
Oooh, the film crew sounds exciting! Not sure what Current TV is, but I want to see your special- do you know when it airs?
C. says
I have a new project for The Husband! When I was little I remember my mom getting part of a “Friendship Bread” starter. I remember the bread tasting delicious, and having fun “feeding” the starter for her… the problem is that I don’t know how to start it myself. I know there are all sorts of directions all over the web for where to start, but I thought it might be fun to see you show off your baking expertise via a photographed blog account. Any interest??
the husband says
C –
Already done it! Here ya go:

Hey guys, have you ever tried mixing mustard with your canned tuna instead of mayo?? well I did that today (I was out of mayo) and I think it tastes better! Not as fishy, and less calories…ya’ll should try it if you haven’t…just thought I’d share… 🙂
Maureen says
Kath,
maybe you need to drink a glass of wine more regularly and you will build up more of a tolerance so that a glass and half won’t be such a big deal and cause you to feel to feel “yucky.” I know when I used to only drink wine on occasion I’d get much more of a reaction than I do now, drinking more regularly (in moderation.)
Maryam says
hey kath,
i’ve been working out pretty regularly (& hardcore) for about a year. I eat pretty healthy too, for the most part (except for the occassional ice cream or cake on wknds, of course!) I get my weight and messurements taken at the gym w/my trainer. My weight for the most part has stayed the same, but the measurements and % body fat has decreased, sllllllllowwwwwwwwly!! I heard that’s a good thing, but i’m still having trouble accepting that my weight is relatively the same. Especially when i see someone in your case who has lost so much weight. i don’t need to lose a ton of weight, but i’d like to lose at least a good 10 lbs (like any normal girl would!)
any advice you could give me or words of hope, maybe??
p.s. could the husband give his recipe for the homemade cheese buns?? i tried looking for it but i can’t find it & they look awesome!!
Kath says
Shelby ,
The kamut berries taste like wheat berries – a cross between steel cut oats and rice. Yes, you simmer them for about 45 minutes.
Little Black Dress,
Thanks for the sweet comment 🙂
ModelBehavior ,
This is the no stir version – is that what you had? I would say it is a bit oilier than the “almonds, salt” ones, but I still think it’s good.
Betsy in Pittsburgh,
I hate marzipan and almond cookies too – the butter is totally different!
faith ,
Blog readers have trickled in day by day for the past year. I guess mostly by word of mouth …and….type.
I like firm tofu, baked the best.
Cool you’re coming to NC!
lisa ,
I’m liking it so far. I like all the naming of compounds. Call me a nerd, but it’s kind of like a puzzle to figure out how to draw 2-isopropal-3,5-dimethylpentane!
runjess ,
Sony CyberShot. It’s in the FAQs 😉
HangryPants ,
I did read through that thread – interesting conversation. I thought many of you level-headed people had great responses: food blogs do not equal eating disorders but are a form of creativity. We’re getting PAID. It’s fun, etc.
Maryam ,
I’m not qualified to give diet advice, and without doing a thorough assessment on your eating, exercise and lifestyle habits, even an R.D. would have a tough time giving specific recommendations. I would suggest generally that you try to clean up your diet – not necessarily changing how much you eat but what you eat. The more fresh foods the better. That certainly makes a difference for me and how I look and feel.
The cheesy buns are in the recipe sidebar under the husband’s page!

I love your blog, I’m striving to eat more like you do! 🙂 Thanks for the enjoyment and inspiration… Also, the one thing I remember from Organic: “The ether bunny says ROR.” My roommate came up with it while we were studying way back when. It still makes me laugh! 🙂
Kath says
Stephanie ,
That’s cute!! I remember it as “either / or”
