Green juice in beer glasses is so much more fun 🙂
As expected, I didn’t sleep that well and woke up with a bit of a foodover, mostly because I was parched with dehydration! I barely drank any water yesterday. I slept (restlessly) until 9:30. We went to bed at 1AM and I woke up at 7 and knew that was too early to get up.
I decided some vegetable juice would be just what I need (for some reason I can’t drink water when I don’t feel well. It makes me queasy!?)
My juice was made with kale, cucumber, carrot, apple plus ginger and lemon. I LOVE the lemon!!! It covers up the vegetableness and makes it so much like a tart lemonade.
[FYI, I got this nice little canvas box to keep the juicer in. I keep it on a shelf in the garage and can easily carry it inside to use and back out of the way]
After my elixir had settled, I made some energizing oatmeal.
I kept it super simple today: banana oats with almond butter.
- 1/3 cup oats, milk, water
- ~2 tbsp 9 grain cereal with more water
- 1/2 small banana
- Maranatha pushed into the hot oats so it would melt!
I got this cute tiny spoon at World Market yesterday! Love tiny utensils.
What do you see? A whale?
JUST finished breakfast around 10:45! I’m planning to go to a 1PM cycle class at the Y and then study all afternoon with Victoria for our Metabolism final exam tomorrow. It’s rainy and gross out there. Blah. Good day for studying!
Naomi(onefitfoodie) says
delicious simple oats, so good once in a while
I love lemon in smoothies too, totally covers up the veggie-ness of the green monster
enjoy your cycle class!! 🙂
Jocelyn@JocelynEatsFresh says
Simple oats = the best! 🙂
Allie (Live Laugh Eat) says
It looks like a whale and an upside down sea otter…they’re just FRIENDS though. No dirty thoughts now 🙂
christie @ honoring health says
Great idea with the canvas tote. I never thought of doing that and because our kitchen is so small, I have to store appliances in random places.
Wendy says
I have the same problem with water when I don’t feel good – I can only take tiny sips or it makes me feel yuckier!
Cute spoon!!
Vanessa (Last Night's Leftovers) says
I strongly believe that everything looks and tastes better in a beer glass. 😉
Karla says
I had a little too much wine and sweet yesterday at my ugly sweater party. A huge green monster and a liter of water made me feel a ton better this morning! Funny how the simplest things can make a world of difference!
Marisa (Loser for Life) says
I know what you mean about a foodover. Sometimes that’s almost as bad as a hangover! I also notice I don’t drink enough water if I eat a little more at a party!
Madeline @ Greens and Jeans says
That spoon is too cute! Food hangovers are awful. I feel just as dysfunctional as I would with a “real” hangover!
MarathonVal says
I LOVE your idea to store your juicer in a cute canvas bag!!! I’m definitely stealing that idea. I have a love-hate relationship with my large appliances since I can’t live without them, but I could live without the clutter they cause!
Estela @ Weekly Bite says
It’s rainy and yucky in DC too!
Good luck studying 🙂
Lauren @ Reading and Running says
Yup, definitely see the whale! Oats look delicious, almost exactly what I had this morning also! Good luck with your studying today. Seems like it is rainy and gross everywhere in the country lately!
Food Makes Fun Fuel says
I love tiny utensils, too. I still eat oatmeal with my baby spoon 🙂
Liz says
I HATE foodovers, the WORST thing ever! I totally know what you mean about not being able to drink water, if my stomach feels off even a little bit, water is a no no
Julie @savvyeats says
I can’t drink water when I feel sick either! Glad it isn’t just me!
Katie says
Whale in the cup!
I was thinking you had some beer this early!

Hmmm. Sometimes a simple bowl of oats is the best.
Sarah R says
Wow–that’s the most simple bowl of oats I’ve seen from you in quite some time! The basics are always the best after indulgences!
Light Delight with TouTou says
I love that spoooon! you should pull it out and let us see all of it:-D
Kath says
That’s what she said!?
KatieTX says
hahahahahahah I laughed so hard at that. I love being a 17yr old boy on the inside
Sam (Merit to the Carrot) says
Simple oats are the best sometimes, especially when accompanied by green juice! I need a juicer, that stuff looks so good!
Have a good study sesh, and good luck on your exam!
Carolyn says
Same weather here. Think I’m gonna head to the gym around 6:30 (just enough time to workout before they close). Right now, I’m making gumbo.
ashleigh says
harpoon is the best 🙂 most of my glasses are from their tours and their festivals!
Cynthia (It All Changes) says
I made a similar breakfast with oatbran yesterday. It was nice and calmed down my stomach issues.
Stacey says
It’s gross out there! I’m still in my jammies and taking some time off from studying! I had my diet tech exam yesterday and a BIG portion of it was what happens to the body when it’s under metabolic stress and acute illness, am I weird that I think that stuff is cool?? 😀
Lily @ Lily's Health Pad says
I’m the same way about not being able to drink water when not feeling well! Waking up with a bit of a hangover makes me crave diet soda for some reason. The thought of water makes me nauseous.
Gelareh @ Orange Truffle says
There is nothing better than a glass of goodness aka green juice in the morning 🙂
Chelsea says
I have to admit that your utensil drawer would drive me nuts. I like things to match and will never buy a one off (or 2 off) of anything. It has to come in sets. I’m crazy.
Kath says
You’d think I’d be the same way!
Kristen @ Change of Pace says
I’m sorry you are feeling yucky… Hopefully it was worth every last lovely bite! 🙂
Christy says
Love the spoon… I’ve seen those at World Market, they have the coolest stuff there! And good luck with metab!
Sophie says
I think I see an elephant 🙂
Susan says
I love that spoon!
And this is going to sound weird, but I see a nematod! Too much bio studying maybe?
Niki F says
Love the Prancer mug! How cute and Christmas-y!
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
Sounds like a perfect juice to recover from last night. I always feel so much better when I have something healthy and wholesome in me to start my day!
Good luck on the studying!
oatmeal says
That is an amazing spoon!
And the green smoothie in the beer glass made me laugh–maybe you should actually add some beer to the mixture! 😉
Good luck for your exam tomorrow! [I should probably get back to studying myself!]
amanda says
I agree…food hangovers are horrible. They make you just want to lay around all day
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
i don’t drink beer but i love beer glasses!
Jessica @ How Sweet It Is says
Love the juice in a beer glass. 🙂
Sana says
I see the whale 🙂 Good luck on your final!
Jenna says

sarah m says
i bought the matching little fork! it’s my new fave! i just adore world market.
Katie says
I can’t drink water when I feel sick either. I can pound the tea though! And I am sitting at my desk working in crappy weather right now also. I think the entire country is getting wet?!?
Your photos are always so stunning. I think of your blog when I take photos for mine. Can’t wait for my new camera…and some new skills.
maria says
I love using tiny spoons, too. It makes me take the time to sit and enjoy my meal, rather than shovel it in!
Anna K. says
Hey Kath! Great post, as always. What kind of juicer do you use and do you have any tips/recommendations when it comes to brands and features?
Love your blog!
Kath says
Anna,
Here’s the post when I got the juicer. The only kind I’ve ever tried is this one (mine and my friends’) and it’s awesome. juices whole lemons and apples. It’s about $150 I think.
