Guess what time it is 🙁
Roach season.
The horror of seeing (and hearing!) one during breakfast this morning. It involved a 10 minute intermission to take care of business. Ughghghghg.
I’m up super early today because I have to be at work an hour earlier these next two days as I work with a different team.
The sun was NOT up for these photos – but somehow my camera knew what to do!?
Despite being late, I had to have oatmeal today. It’s been too long!
The Mix
- 1/3 cup oats
- 1/3 cup water
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1/2 banana
- 1/2 tbsp chia seeds
- 1/3 cup Organic Valley Cottage Cheese

The one eyed monster that attacked me this morning:
Adios!
Jessica @ How Sweet It Is says
I hope the roaches don’t make their way to Pittsburgh!
Morgan @ Life After Bagels says
uhhh that’s a stinky way to start the day, especially when it’s so early!
Estela @ Weekly Bite says
Roaches are the worst! Growing up in Texas… they were ginormous!
Jenny D. says
Agreed! I was just getting ready to comment about the ridiculously large roaches out here (Houston) and saw your comment!
Marisa (Loser for Life) says
Hopefully, there are no roaches where you are moving. You certainly deserve a break from that business… ick 🙁
sarah (shep) says
I feel your pain. I’m pretty sure I fought at least one roach everyday when I lived in an oooold house in Raleigh… fingers crossed they haven’t followed me to Richmond. I’ve been lucky so far! (Knock on wood) Hope you come home to a roach-free oasis this evening
Freya @ Brit Chick Runs says
I’ve never seen a roach! We don’t have them in England, but I sure don’t envy you..they do’t sound nice 🙁
Beautiful bowl of oats there!
Have a good day 😀
Christy says
Roaches are the WORST!!!! EKkk!
Simply Life says
eew – roaches…glad you’re still able to be in a good mood after starting your day with them! 🙂
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) says
Ugh…roaches. One of my chemistry classrooms was infested with those things. I feel your pain! Ick!
Breakfast looks divine as always though! 😀
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
Augh, nothing like a roach to start out your day. 😉 Hope the rest of the day goes well for you!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
That actually made me laugh…not at you, but the memory of photos of you last summer chasing the roach around you dining room. Ugh, I hate roaches…they are just gross. Sorry your day started that way, but I did see a glimmer of sunshine on the last oat picture. That must mean that there will be a bright spot in your day! Have a great day, Kath!
Erin (Travel, Eat, Repeat) says
Ugh ugh ugh… what a nice breakfast post… 😕
Erika says
The Mix:

theemptynutjar says
I have ants.
Not. Cool.
At. All.
Nice oats. white chocolate coconut butter? Yipes – sounds amazing. I eat a lot of nut butter 🙂
Organic Valley? Must be a U.S. thing…or at least not in my parts here in Canada anyway!
Lindsay @ Summit Sandwiches says
Ewww…roaches creep me out, but luckily, I haven’t had to deal with too many of them in my life! The closest I’ve gotten to a roach in the past few years was when I bought my container of medjool dates at TJ’s a few months ago. Now, those kind of roaches I’ll take anytime…:)
Lori (Finding Radiance) says
That hemp plus is my favorite flavor as well. I love that it is light and crunchy, and only 140 calories for 1/2 a cup!
Roaches – nasty. One big reason that keeps me in the northern climes.
Kim says
I am sure I wouldn’t want to come upon a roach but I get to deal with scorpions and tarantula’s. I think everyone has that bug that gets to them even if they don’t hate bugs in general.
M says
Ummm…I perhaps wouldn’t write about roaches until your house is SOLD my dear 😉
Jenny says
Ugh! It’s roach season in Florida, too!
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
oh my goodness i would CRY if i saw a roach! thankfully we don’t see them a lot here in colorado, but when i was younger i would either get my dad or a vacuum cleaner to kill them…i can’t handle the crunch. VOMIT
Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin says
Ughhh roached are the worst!!
Heather @ Side of Sneakers says
Ahhh roaches & breakfast should NOT go together!! I love how powerful your camera is.
kalli@fitandfortysomething says
ugh i would die if i saw a roach……….
Deva (Voracious Vorilee) says
I love my f/1.8 lens for that very reason – it’s amazing in low light areas!
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
Ugh– I’m at my parents house in Louisiana right now, where the roaches are as big as alligators. And they FLY!!!!
Yummy breakfast though 🙂
Therese says
Ewwww!!!!!! Thankfully I haven’t had the “pleasure” since I lived in Japan! I saw one and bug-bombed the entire apartment!
Kati @ Living Well says
Yummy oats! I kinda fall off the oatmeal train in the summer but I’ve been snacking on Polly’s PB & Oat no-bake cookies!
shannon (the daily balance) says
yikes!!! HATE roaches — ALMOST as much as I hate rats — eeeek!
Carly says
You need an exterminator! If you see ONE roach, there is bound to be dozens, maybe even hundreds more. They reproduce like you wouldn’t believe. We had some living in our DISHWASHER last summer and I saw one, killed it and didn’t think anything of it, then a few weeks later every morning when I turned on the light in the kitchen I would see like TEN scurrying back into the darkness. SO.GROSS. We had an exterminator come and bomb the inside of the dishwasher and it took care of them. He told me they even like to eat soap! Who knew?
Kath says
They aren’t really roaches – they are Palmetto bugs. They don’t live in your house so exterminating won’t do any good 🙁
Jil @ Peace, Love & Munchies says
Eeek, roaches. I get shivers down my spine just thinking about them!!
Andrea (Sweet N Green) says
Hearing about the roach gave me chills, you are my hero for being able to actual kill it lol I can’t even stand tiny little spiders…i run the other direction! lol
Breakfast looks delicious as usual 🙂 Hope you have a good day!
Emilie says
LOOOOVE the Hemp plus, so very tasty.
L @ WholewheatOrbust says
Kath! I know exactly what you mean by needing oats despite time limitations! It has happened several times where I will have an early class and will wake up right before it and I need to choose between leaving right n o w and enjoying a lovely bowl of oats. Sadly, oats has won more than enough times….
Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter says
I have never actually seen a roach in real life!
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
Ewwww… roaches! Ugh!
P.S. Cottage cheese in oats is the BEST!
Stacy Grows Healthy says
So nasty! I had them in my apt in NY yuck yuck yuck! Roaches are probably one of the main reasons, I haven’t moved to the south.
I hope your day gets better. Your breakfast sure looks tasty.
Shawna @ Balancing Me says
Goodness, we never see big roaches here in MA, or at least I’ve never seen them. LOL! DH works for the phone company and sees them in lots of people’s houses, though, but he said they’re all little and there are usually a LOT of them. Gross!!!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I’ve never seen a roach here, but I encountered the most disgusting centipede in my bathroom yesterday. Yuck!
Stacey@http://stacey-healthylife.blogspot.com/ says
What a bad way to start the day, yuck. Looks like you at least had a good bowl of oats to start the day.
skinnyrunner says
im from alaska so I’d only seen roaches in movies and books until I moved to Texas for a year. oh dear lord, those things are nast. Safe to say, we moved out of Texas.
Erin (thehealthyapron.com) says
ewww I would freak!
lynn (The Actors Diet) says

Camille says
Gross! There is one advantage we have on the West Coast, no roaches… blech!
I actually really like the picture with the blur, it looks really beautiful!
Mitzi says
Hm..I live in Bay Area, California and my house has roaches. Hate it!
Faith @ LovelyAsCharged says
Oh HAELL no, I’m terrified of roaches! I’d have been too busy freaking out to cook, much less eat!
Clare says
I’m so sorry to hear your roach story…what a horrible start to the morning! Funnily enough, right before I read your post I read this article in the London Times. So gross.
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/education/young_times/article7123126.ece
I don’t think we get cockroaches in Canada but we do sometimes get these horrible things called ‘house centipedes’. I’ll spare you the details but if you’re feeling brave, google it!
Lisa says
THANK YOU for NOT posting pictures of that! UGH!!!!
Lisa says
Love your blog but I hate when you talk about, or post pics of, dead or alive roaches or other bugs at the same time you’re talking about food. *errrrrrp*
Lisa says
LOL–I see the Lisa above me shares my feelings!
Corinne says
kajfsdklfjskadf heebie jeeeeebies! You are a hell of a girl for getting rid of that pest on your own!! I’d for sure need my bf’s help. Gosh, what a girl thing to say. ha.
Jenn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
What’s a lingonberry?! It looks yummy as preserves! 🙂
Jenn
Alycia @ FitnFresh says
that oatmeal looks delicious! it just may have to be made by yours truly tomorrow morning… dun dun dunnnnn
Hannah says
You know, I’m not really skeeved out by bugs, but I’m housesitting at the moment at a place that seems to house every single bug known to man… and I don’t know if there’s anything more disgusting than opening the just-run dishwasher and having a cockroach come out. Rerunning the cycle? Hells yeah.
Molly says
The only roach I’ve ever encountered would be when I was in Australia typing away on the campus computer and one landed on my shoulder….oh wait, I was skyping my dad…and he thought I was being attacked (which in my defense…I was). I hope I never see one again, bleh! Minnesota is known for box-elder bugs….teeny-tiny version of a roach. Not a fan. I hope you don’t have many more run in’s with those creatures, yucky!
