Morning all 🙂
I slept well last night in the cool air. It sure is fall around here! Can you believe that we STILL haven’t turned on our air conditioning this summer!??!???! This is the SOUTH. It’s supposed to be sweltering and humid. What’s going on! I can’t complain though 🙂
Barney Butter was on the menu this AM:
I’m all out now. Debating getting more. I’m still on a nut butter hiring freeze until I work through some of my stock. It’s shrinking a lot though. Lots of jars just have a few tbsp left, so I was sad/glad to get this one out of the cabinet.
The mix:
- 1/3 cup oats, 1/3 cup milk, 1/3 cup water
- 1 tbsp dried raspberries
- Vanilla + LOTS of cinnamon
- 1/2 cup blueberries, stirred in at end
- 2 tbsp coconut, stirred in at end
- 1 tbsp chia seeds, stirred in at end
- Jar of Barney Butter
+ Tazo Awake

I’ve got a long to-do list today, but it’s mostly manual labor and not much computer work. Woo hoo.
Amanda (My Summerizations) says
my pb stock is getting low too. i’m sad they’re almost gone but excited to restock with perhaps new nut butters…there are so many different kinds nowadays!
Cait (Cait's Plate) says
This is possibly my absolute favorite thing you make! I need to do this soon! Darn my full PB jars!! 🙂
Holly (The Healthy Everythingtarian) says
still haven’t tried barney butter – but the b’fast looks amazing as always. seriously…queen of oats!
Jean says
Good breakfast! It has been chilly in Ohio as well which is bizarre even for us mid-westerners!
Kath, I have a question, about Yogi Tea. I just picked up the Yogi Peach Detox tea, it says not to drink if pregnant. I’ve seen that advisory on other teas and wonder why? It is caffine free, I wonder what ingredient causes the concern.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Megan (The Runner's Kitchen) says
It’s been a rainy and cool summer in NYC as well – it was only in the 60’s yesterday! Oatmeal in jar is perfect for a cool morning.
Jean – I often drink Yogi Detox tea and I’ve noticed it has a lot of herbs. Maybe these aren’t proven to be safe for pregnancy? I think some of the herbs act as mild diuretics/laxatives.
Deva says
Can we guess that jarred breakfast will be on the menu again soon? 🙂
Andee (Runtolive) says
That breakfast looks delicious! It’s been so hot here in LA, around 80 degrees, crazy!
Whitney says
That flower is gorgey! I love me some oats in a jar!

Thanks for Linking to “we are the real deal”!!!!
Ashley [ota.bars] says
3 things =)
[1] i l.o.v.e. that you put peanut butter in oatmeal [or any of the nut butters] people think i am weird when i tell them i do that
[2] also, most people i know do not eat breakfast..or they force themselves in the morning to eat something small..when i wake up i am HUNGry!
[3] it is great to finally find someone who eats as frequently as i do..people also think I’m weird that I eat breakfast + need a snack by 10am + then lunch + then snack at 3pm..my husband always jokes that I have a tapeworm..but I looked that up and it actually makes you not want to eat 😉
happy wednesday!
AnnQ says
LOL — a “nut butter hiring freeze”….that’s funny! 🙂
leslie says
oats in a jar is definitely my favorite recent blogging discovery. so genius.
i love that photo of the flower! so vivid and morning-appropriate.
Angharad says
It’s been a super weird summer in Minneapolis too! We’ve hardly needed the AC (lucky because we don’t have it!) and last week it dropped to the 50s!
Your breakfast looks divine as always and as always I have table-envy.
Thanks for introducing the cool new blog!
Mandy A says
It’s been weird here weather-wise, too! This past week has been much cooler for us! Waking up with temps in the 50’s and 60’s! I can’t believe it! Makes for a beautiful day, though (except when it’s raining like today)!
Love the breakfast! I haven’t put blueberries in my oatmeal in quite some time… been such a banana freak lately. I need to do that!
Aynsley - WrenLife says
Tazo Awake…AHHHHHHH! That makes me think of Thanksgiving and the holiday season!
Lauren says
Empty jars really do make the best bowls! Someday I will break down and order Barney Butter off the net…or maybe they will bring it to Texas! (Crossing fingers)
Alison says
Dang I still haven’t done the breakfast in a jar thing!!
*Runs off to write it on to do list*
Barbara says
You’re so lucky to have cooler temps. We(Austin,TX) just got below 100 for a couple days..it’s been miserable.
Mmmmmmm that peanut butter breakfast looks fantastic. Have you tried Sunbutter yet? Sunflower seed butter..yum!
Lori says
Have you thought about making your own nut butters? If you have a food processor, you can do it and it is so easy! Plus a lot less expensive.
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
Definitely sounds like the perfect way to start out the day!
I’m amazed by the weather as well! What happened to those sweltering hot days we usually get early July? Honestly, I almost miss them! It just doesn’t seem like summer without those few unbearable days. 😉
Rebecca says
I haven’t turned my air conditioner on at my apartment either!! We use fans and my windows are HUGE so we just air out the apartment that way! The weather this summer is CRAZY!
Courtney (The Hungry Yogini) says
LOVE the breakfast bowl. I have been dying to do that!!!!!!
Have a great one! And enjoy the lovely weather!
Christie @ Quit Your Diet says
Good luck getting all of your things done!
So awesome that you have not turned on the AC. I can not say the same, I am a wimp like that 😀
HeatherBakes says
I love the oats in a jar… easy cleanup too 🙂
Shannon (The Daily Balance) says
I cannot believe you still haven’t turned on the AC! I wish I could say it’s the same for me and the Mister (especially in CLEVELAND!), but alas, I am a HUGE wuss.
Cynthia (It all changes) says
I think we’ve turned on our air at night once or twice. Usually just the fan for us because the screens fell out of our windows and we haven’t had time to replace them. Our electric bill is loving us though. 🙂
I love the oats in the leftover jar. I’m all for not washing the bowl. After making my own almond butter I’m excited to try other nut butters. My mom had sunflower seed butter from Trader Joes and it was amazing! I may have to buy myself a jar.
Sandhiya says
last evening I had a slice of toasted banana walnut bread (from Wegmans…delicious) in my almost empty almond butter jar..so yum and filling I just coudnt do justice to my dinner..I borrowed the idea from your previous post. Thanks!!!
Katharina says
Almost empty jars = more oats in a jar!!! 😀
megan says
I just found out there’s a great harvest in my town! I get to go for the first time this weekend…what kind of bread should i try first? i’d appreciate any suggestions 🙂
Kiersten says
I had almost the exact same breakfast this morning. Great minds think alike!
Natalie says
What a great breakfast! Here in Florida…it seems hotter than ever. I wish I could turn my A/C off! 🙂
Actual Scale says
Loving the cooler temps here in MO – only 80s during the day & 60s at night. Humid, but that is normal.
Kids aren’t so thrilled as it means it is too cool to play in the sprinkler & it is not helping my tomatoes! They need 70s at night to ripen so I need it to warm up a bit. lol
Love the oatmeal in the jar idea. I’ll have to let my dh know because he would love this.
Thanks for sharing all your oatmeal love.
Jen says
I WISH it was cool here and we didnt need ac!!! 🙁 makes me miss home!
I l ove you had oats in the jar 🙂
Eve says
I still haven’t tried oatmeal in the PB/AM jar!

I have an almost-empty jar of AB butter ready for this. Looks delish!
Jenn
Ashley says
after having freshly ground almond butter that you grind yourself at the store, it’s been impossible for me to find jarred AB that tastes anywhere as good. Plus no added stuff like sugars and oil. PB I can substitute. You have to try it.
Help Meghan Run says
I have a slightly embarrassing confession…I make my own almond butter, and cleaning the food processor is always a pain. But when I made it last week, I was ready for some oats, so I absolutely ate my oats out of the food processor. 🙂 Delish!
Bec says
who doesnt love oats in a bowl!
mikey says
the BEST way to eat oats!
Maddy says
i have a tiny bit of almond butter left and totally want to do this! i just havent found any oatmeal recipe i love, plus its like 90+ degrees on marco island haha
ps- Tazo awake is the bombbbbb. love that!
Hallie (Healthy Twists) says
That website is really cool, thanks for posting the link
I haven’t tried the oats-in-a-jar trick because it takes me forever to go through a jar of almond butter…I’m getting there, though…I guess it wouldn’t be too healthy if I had like, 1/3 cup of AB with my oats…sure would keep me full for awhile though 🙂
Kath says
Jean ,
There are a handful of herbs that are not recommended for pregnant women, and some like St. John’s Wort can interfere with birth control pills (at least that’s the last I heard). I’m not sure which herbs in your tea could cause any problems though, as I’m not an herb expert.
Barbara ,
I’ve got sunflower seed in stock!
megan ,
Dakota, High Five Fiber, Flax Oat Bran or Whole Grain Goodness!
Help Meghan Run,
No shame there!!
Kath
sue says
mmm barney butter oats! i think you should definitely get another jar!
Talia Lapid says
Your breakfasts are truly ispirational! :). I love oatmeal and you present it so beautifully..even hidden in a nut butter jar–which truthfully makes it all the more appetizing. I had your whipped banana base oatmeal this morning with caramelized peaches and walnuts and a tablespoon of flaxseed. Amazing!
Tay says
I love this oats in a jar craze goin’ on 🙂
I wasn’t a fan of Barney Butter. Bummer. It tasted off to me!
theskinnyplate says
I’m still working to empty a jar of nut butter so I can use it for oatmeal.
Michelle Hisae says
Cool weather up in Boston, too. 2 days ago it was sweltering, and now there’s a chance of rain for the next 10 days!
Leianna says
totally threw away my empty almond butter jar this morning not even thinking about using it for a “bowl”
Next time for sure
britt says
i cannot wait for winter to come (i usually only eat oats when it’s cold) so i can try this. i’ve been wanting to try barney butter too but it just looks so different from most almond butters i eat.
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
mmm dried raspberries!!!
