^^ A strawberry growing in my grandmother’s vintage strawberry pot!
Happy June!!! I can never decide what my favorite months of the year are, but May + June and September + October are all in the running. June and October might win because our wedding anniversary and my birthday make them extra special!
Speaking of summer, I just sent Mazen off to his first day of summer camp! He’s doing 4 different weeks throughout the summer at two preschools. He actually thinks he’s going camping so I hope he isn’t disappointed with all the arts & crafts, songs, stories and playground time. We might have to dust off our four-person tent that my parents brought us from their attic…
Yesterday’s two soccer games were hot hot hot. Despite lots of water, I think I’m still thirsty. After I leave my games each Sunday I am always tempted to go by Kohr Brothers but it requires a U-turn, so I usually pass. But yesterday – since it was my last day of women’s league and our hottest games yet – I stopped in for a cone. That was my lunch!
Dinner was quite healthy though. We made arugula salads with homemade yogurt dressing (yogurt + olive oil + Dijon + salt and pepper) and cheese omelets to go on the side. Plus a little leftover potato salad and a few crackers.
Breakfast this morning was overnight oats with strawberries and blueberries.
I get absolutely giddy over new technology these days, and all the photos in this post were taken with my brand new LG G4. AT&T sent me the G4 to review in celebration of their 4K Seconds Sweepstakes where they are giving away a new G4 every 4K seconds (or 66 minutes) for a total of 500 phones! The sweeps runs from May 29 through June 20, and you can enter HERE. All you have to do is take a photo with your current phone and upload it to enter. There is also photography contest with fancy TVs up for grabs for the top place winners!
I’ve been playing with the G4 all weekend and have made it my primary phone. The camera is pretty awesome!! You can even shoot in full manual mode and adjust things like ISO and white balance.
A few other things I love about the phone:
-There are no side buttons, which I think is great because I find it hard to hold a phone and not accidentally turn the volume off! The buttons are on the back, but you can also tap on/tap off the screen which is super convenient.
-The home page fits SO MANY more apps than other phones I’ve used. Before I had the Gmail widget plus 2 rows of 4 apps, so I had many of my apps in sub folders. But the G4 has an adjustable version of the Gmail widget plus THREE rows of FIVE apps – so I can fit 15 apps instead of 8 in addition to the 5 along my home row. Huge plus!
-I love the sounds. They remind me of a club mix, especially the Echo noise I have set for receiving texts : )
-You can use a code word to verbally activate the camera shutter. There are several to choose from, but I went with “Everybody say ‘Whiskey!'”
-The size and curved back are really comfortable. With my old phone I got used to a huge screen, and the G4 is nearly as big but feels more petite in my hand because of the curve. It is easier to hold if you have small hands like I do.
I’m such a huge fan of Android in general, that I love everything about this phone and its Lollipop 5.1 OS. I’ve also been using my phone camera so much more than my DSLR when I’m away from, so I’m glad have a great camera in my pocket at all times.

Kath, what kind of cheese is that on your salad? Btw I’m totally obsessed with your nails, heh.
KathEats says
It’s Esmontonian from Caromont Farm
Michelle says
Mmmmmmm! Ice cream for lunch!
Amanda @ Slimplify Life says
Your ice cream just reminded me of Moo Thru – I used to stop on 29 every trip I made to Cville!!!
Tonya says
That omelette looks good! But the caption for the pic with Mazen should be “Sigh, I asked for pizza …” LOL!
KathEats says
Haha!

Just a heads up on an ad on the page. It was for Maytag and once it started to play as a video (I didn’t click on it, it just started), it pulled the screen down and I could not move the screen back up to continue reading until the ad stopped playing. Super annoying.
KathEats says
Yikes…thanks
Tracy says
Today is my wedding anniversary! Yours is tomorrow, right? Easy to remember since it’s the day after mine! Happy early anniversary to you and Matt! 🙂

That salad – swoon!
(You’re totally going to wind up camping in the backyard at some point this summer ;))
Nikki says
I never think to make cheese omelets for dinner, but that goes GREAT with a salad!
Amanda says
Hahahaha Mazen looks like he cannot decide what to think about that big salad. Love it!

I’m not so sure about this giveaway. They sent me an email saying I won, then sent me a form to fill out and send back to them. They wanted my social security number and tax information….
KathEats says
I think that means you actually won!!!? Is there a number to call where you could verify everything is legit? They probably just need it because it’s a prize with value for their tax records.
Jilly says
I received the same notification – that I won the phone, and accompanying tax forms etc. Since two of us have won, I’m now wondering if it’s a scam? What are the odds of two of us winning like that do you think? I came here to say YAY I WON and now I’m thinking “I won?” ha ha
KathEats says
Ok now I am suspicious too. I’m going to check with my contact about how you guys can verify. But a phone every 66 seconds is a lot and I’m sure a lot of KERF readers entered so I’m not all that surprised. Let me check back!
Robin says
I also received an email yesterday that I won, and am a little suspicious, so any information would be great. Thanks!
KathEats says
I have an email in to check on this and see how you guys can speak with someone.
Em B says
Same here. I received the same email saying I won last night as well. Interesting…
Meredith says
October is the best month for obvious reasons … Halloween (and your birthday)!
JIJI says
How could we find out about the phone? I got an email from [email protected] Is this legit?
KathEats says
It should be! I haven’t heard back from my contact yet though.
Flo says
I just received a message that I won a phone. Is this a scam? Thanks for any help. Love your blog.
KathEats says
Shouldn’t be! I haven’t heard back from my contact about a number to call yet, but it was very official on my end.
Faith says
My favorite months are definitely May, June & September!
I have been looking at all my options for a new phone, & need to check that one out.

Congrats to so many of you winners! I just took a look at the winning email and it’s official. Because the prize is valued above the $600 threshold for 1099s with the IRS, they do require a W9 form to be filled out. This is standard in any sweepstakes. I’m still waiting to hear back if there’s a number you can call to confirm everything. If it feels a little distances, I think that’s just because there are 500 phones and therefore 500 prizes to coordinaet.
Abby says
I won too but will not give out my SS#. I won a $500 gift card once and was never asked for my SS#. It seems sketchy to me. Hope it turns out well for others.
KathEats says
The 1099 threshold per the IRS is $600 – that’s why you weren’t asked before.
Tonya says
well dang! I should have entered this contest! Sometimes I look at the odds and think naaaahhh. but a phone every 66 seconds? kickin myself. :-/
KathEats says
Not too late!
Jesse says
I got the same email. No way this is legit. Not one legitimate news source has reported on this contest. Not one press release from AT&T or LG about it. Just random blogs here and there. In order to enter this contest and collect your winning phone you need to provide email, SSN, birthday, phone, address, name and create a password…. ya, too good to be true.
KathEats says
I just reconfirmed that AT&T is actually behind this. The only question is whether there is some kind of glitch in the winning emails – which we are confirming. AT&T has been slow to respond, but my PR contact just put in another email to their fulfillment department to try to get some answers and phone numbers for you guys. I can assure you that to claim any prize you would need to submit that kind of information.
Jesse says
You know, I’m gonna take back what I said. After much research about the companies involved (Hello World), I hit reply and sent an email to them saying I was skeptical. I actually got what appears to be a human response. Then, today, a link to the contest ended up on my Twitter feed from LG USA Mobile, whom I follow on Twitter. That is how I originally found out about the contest. I think it’s on the up and up.
KathEats says
Oh good!
KathEats says
Hi all,
Some of your were lucky enough to win an LG G4 in the sweepstakes, which is awesome! You can visit the “contact us” form at this web page: http://4kseconds.att.com/contact.
When you submit your question, someone from AT&T will get back to you as quickly as possible (during normal business hours, M-F, 9-5 PM CST) to address any concerns regarding prize fulfillment, verify your winnings or just help if you have any general inquiries about the sweepstakes. I hope this is helpful to ease your concerns.
Best,
Kath
