Afternoon fun included a new display table design…
Lots of thank you notes written to those who helped us with our opening…
And a beer delivery from Sheila and Ryan!! They congratulated us for our business opening with 3 of their very favorite Southern California beers. THANK YOU guys!! We are so excited to try them!
When it was time to leave, of course something was wrong with the money counting. Something ALWAYS seems to be wrong when we’re tired and hungry! [Thanks to KERF reader Jen who helped me with Quickbooks today : ) ]
Want to know how much I love my bike? I biked home in the rain!! It was sunshining but also raining today – that seems to happen in Cville a lot! I got a little wet, but mostly from splashing puddles. I survived, and it was worth it to get some fresh air + exercise.
I was greeted with refreshments – water + IPA!
Matt beat me home and served me some brew.
Karen was here getting started on dinner too!
Local bison burgers with roasted potatoes and cole slaw. Thanks Karen for another yummy dinner!
Tonight we had amazing jalapeno bison burgers [cooked on a skillet] served open-faced over Popeye bread. That bread is just incredible!! So was the cheese on top.
Karen’s cole slaw on the side [sorry, no time to gather recipe info – maybe Karen will post in the comments!?]
And roasted bataters
After dinner I tasted some hazelnut brittle coming soon to OpenSky. Holy hazelnuts – best. brittle. ever!
Matt’s in bed. I’m going to bed because I’m opening the store tomorrow and then HOPEFULLY slipping away for Body Pump!!
Hannah (tickledtofu) says
That hazelnut brittle looks incredible! Oh wait, everything you EVER post looks incredible! 🙂
Jenny @ Fitness Health and Food says

Hope you two get some rest and have a great day tomorrow! 🙂

Those burgers look amazing.. and I would be interested in the coleslaw recipe, but, of course, only if anyone is feeling up to it. No rush 🙂
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
I just realized I love hazelnuts, so I will keep an eye out for that deal 🙂
Hannah says
Hi Kath! You
Hannah says
Sorry! i didnt get to finish! I meant to say your meal looks amazing and mouth watering like always! Also, I wanted to tell you that your open sky promotion thing is on youtube! 😀
Sandy says
Wonderful that Karen is there to pitch in with dinner during this super busy opening time. It seems like you have been going non-stop for weeks. Enjoy your Sunday off.
Michelle (The Runner's Plate) says
Wow!! You guys are very busy with the bakery (as to be expected!). I hope you can sneak away for a Bodypump class for some quality “me” time!

I know you and Matt both work extremely hard, but you two have the funnest life EVER!!! Great job 🙂
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
The hazelnut brittle looks to die for! I love brittles and barks and I bet that is just…awesome!
The food looks great, too, but what really catches my eye in the photos is the ketchup. I like a little food with my vat of ketchup. It’s high in lycopene I hear 🙂
staceyhealthylife says
Karen is becoming a regular cook around there. It must be so nice to have her help with diners so you guys can focus on the business and then come home to an amazing dinner after such a long day.
Pat says
Ha! After the earlier discussion about Kath promoting Open Sky, she showed up on my FB Scrabble game today! I see you everywhere Kath. DInner looks great. I recently had bison burgers (we call them buffalo burgers!) at a dance camp over Memorial Day weekend. Yummy!
KathEats says
Scrabble! Fun!
Monika @ Powered by Paprika says
Stone Brewing Co. is my favorite!! Did you get a sample of the IPA? (Probably one of my favorite beers, for sure!)
Those brews must have paired nicely with the bison burgers!

KathEats says
Bison!? It’s like Buffalo – may be the same, I’m not sure

I love sending actual thank you notes- so personal and becoming so extinct! Thank you texts or emails are nice, but getting a card is the best.
Sylvia @ My Attempt at Balanced Living says
Arrogant Bastard Ale is excellent! I went to an ABA beerfest in San Diego that was so much fun and all of the beers were so great. My favorite one was aged in red wine barrels 🙂 (but I still can’t remember the name!!)
Denise @ Do you have that in my size??? says
The roasty potatoes look heavenly…yum! If you ever run into trouble with QuickBooks again, let me know because I work for the company that makes it (Intuit) and have friends who work on that product. 🙂

Your photography is always so great I’m jealous!! You openface burger looks good, this is a weird question but do you eat openface sandwiches/burgers with your hands or with a fork and knife? Check out my blog, I recently did a post about bicycling here.

Ston’es beers are not child’s play! Their arrogant bastard oaked is INSANE!!

everything is really coming together! the bakery looks great and love your meals made by Karen, soo nice of her to help you out during this hectic time.
I was wondering, the box in the last frame, with the brittle in it? Where can I find that, as a source? I really like it and it would work nice for my soaps.
thanks!
shannon
KathEats says
It was what the brittle came in – I have no clue where they came from 🙁
amyt says
The burger….well the entire dinner looks so yummy!!!

Oohhh…Stone Brewery…delicious! If you ever get the chance to visit their brewery outside of San Diego, do it. It is beautiful inside and out, and the food (and beer) is amazing. I’m jealous because they just stopped distributing it to Wisconsin 🙁

Fun to see a little shout out to SoCal and good ole Stone Brewery 🙂 I love that place, great beer and great food too!
Let us know how you like Arrogant Bastard – it’s a little insane – bitter, and soooo hop hop hoppy (not my thing, but lots of people love it!)
Amanda says
I LOVE STONE SMOKED PORTER! Their brewery tour is a fun little stop, and I agree with the above comments about the food at their bistro (which seems like it would be right up your alley – they only use local, in season, organic ingredients)…deeeelicious.
