Woke up to a blanket of snow!!
But the roads are totally clear. We’re "hovering at 34*" the weather people say. Schools are in and the health fair I’m attending today is ON.
So was my trip to the gym! Since yesterday was hard weights (although I’m not sore…yet) and tomorrow is a big run, I kept it easy with 45 minutes on the elliptical with a magazine. Then some foam rolling and stretching. Piece-a-cake. I actually woke up quite alert at 4:55 even though I had 30 more minutes to sleep!
Today was one of those days where when it was time for breakfast I felt like my stomach was going to be a sponge and just soak up all the oats!!
Luckily this guy came out to play:
The Mix:
- 1/3 cup oats
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 banana
- 1/2 tbsp chia seeds
- Pinch salt
- 1/2 cup pumpkin, stirred in at end
- Cinnamon + vanilla
- Hemp Plus granola
- TJ’s PB residue!
The best part!
Red Hot Chile Peppers?
So delish!

Apparently today is Omega-3 Awareness Day!? Three cheers for flax, walnuts, salmon, tuna, and CHIA SEEDS!

I’m working at a health fair until lunchtime, then going to the office for the afternoon, then another girl’s night dinner out with my girlfriends!
Guess who comes home late, late tonight!
Have a good one!

I am spreading the message of oatmeal in a jar everywhere! It is downright incredible and the perfect way to get ALL of that delicious PB! 🙂
You guys are colder than we are in Boston- weird winter for us!
Jen says
Your coffee looks like a smiling half moon man to me! I really have to try oats in a jar…
Freya @ Brit Chick Runs says
Oh, oats in a jar…it literally doesn’t come much better than that.
You lucky woman!! I can’t wait to finish my jar 😀

Allison (Eat Clean Live Green) says
Happy Omega 3 day! 🙂
Susan says
Hey Kath, do you ever get worried about eating OIAJ out of a plastic jar? I can’t lie, it gives me the willies…
Looks delish though!
Kath says
No, I don’t think my oats are hot enough when I put them in to really melt anything. And I also have this once a month at the most (in plastic) so it’s not a daily activity
Heather says
oohh the snow is pretty! good job on the workout.
megan says
sounds like a fun-filled day! bet you’ll be glad to see matt. i don’t like it when my husband travels and I’m always so excited when he comes home 🙂

I’ve been reading your blog since you started but for some reason the other day I started rereading the archives! I found myself having fun all over again. Love seeing your journey to here and now.

OIAJ…yumm… I need to get cracking on my endless nut butter supply so that I can have that soon.

Mine is presently in BORNEO (for the past 2 months and another 3) so I can sympathize with the excitement! I just have a little longer to wait…. 🙁

Meg @ Be Fit Be Full says
There isn’t even a speck of snow on the ground and schools are on a two hour delay here. Too funny… If only my office was on a delay as well 😉
Thanks for letting us know today is Omega 3 awareness day! Every day is a celebrations of something, huh?
Jenny says
haha I’ve loved all of Matt’s pics from Napa, definitely seems like he’s enjoying himself 😉
And I totally know what you mean about morning hunger that feels like it’s just going to “soak up all the oats”!! I like being hungry in the morning, but when even oatmeal has a tough time combatting it, you know it’s outta control!
Courtney says
Kath! I think your coffee this morning looks like a profile of Jay Leno! I love how you do that everyday! This is my first time commenting – but man do I love your site! THANKS for EVERYTHING!
Kath says
Haha – yes!!
Mara @ What's For Dinner? says
It cracks me up that you used the word “residue”… generally that word really grosses me out!
Maggie says
I had a roommate who used to keep nearly empty jars around the house–now I know what they were for! Also, I’m really impressed by you ladies who can get up do early for a workout. What time do you go to bed?
All the best!
Maggie

coffee today = guinea pig! 🙂 the hole at the top of the picture is his eye.
Happy Wednesday!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
I had my first try at eating something in my peanut butter jar yesterday…I made a quinoa mousse and fell in love with eating it out of the peanut butter jar. I actually hid the jar so no one would throw it in the recycling! So yummy! The warmed up peanut butter gets all swirled around when you eat it…my mouth is watering just thinking about it! We had the snow here all day yesterday, but since it is so warm everything is as usual. Have a great day, I am sure it will be since your other half is returning!
skinnyrunner says
have fun dining with your girlfriends!
Daniel says
Wow, Omega-3 Awareness Day? That’s pretty neat! Really need to restock up on my flax and chia.
Hope you have a great time when your husband returns home tonight (if you’re still awake)!
rustique says
OIAJ is such a fun concept. Great for getting every last dollop of (pricey!) nut butters, too.
Lauren says
Hmmm I still haven’t ever tried OIAJ or chia seeds. I need to get on this asap!
Sara says
So interesting that today is Omega-3 Awareness day because today on Good Morning Ameria they had a report about some brands of fish oil supplements containing high levels of PCB’s. Hmmm, coincidence?? More reason to get your Omega-3’s from foods not supplements!! Here are the stories: http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/ConsumerNews/truth-fish-oil-concerns/story?id=9994425 and here http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/ConsumerNews/truth-fish-oil-concerns/story?id=9994049

Hip Hip Hooray! Hip Hip Hooray! Hip Hip Hooray! Those were for the omega-3’s. 😉 I can’t believe it snowed in Charlotte! Is it really March?! It’s pretty chilly for Florida right now too! It’s probably in the 40’s with our wind chill. Crazy, but I love it!
Karla says
I woke up to snow too! But I guess that’s no surprise in Upstate NY!
Omege-3 awareness day!! I love it! My boyfriend doesn’t understand why I’m obsessed with flax!
jaclyn@todays lady says
Now THAT is a jar of oats!!! I’ve already celebrated omega 3 awareness day with some chia this morning 🙂 I’ll probably celebrate later with Mr. Flax too!
Kristilyn (My 29th Year) says
You certainly go through a lot of jars! LOL! Now I’m craving oats – I haven’t had them for a while!
That’s funny that school even would be canceled with that little amount of snow! That’s one thing that sucks for us Canadians – at least us people in Alberta. We never get snow days because we’re used to the snow. It could be blizzarding outside and the boss still expects you at work!

Hannah says
What a gorgeous spoon (handle)! Is it antique? It’s so pretty!
Kath says
Yes, from my grandmother.
Sarah @ LongLegsHealthyLife says
I have never heard of Omega=3 day, but hooray for any day that brings awareness of healthy things! I had to laugh a bit at your snow, because here in the “chilly north” of Toronto, we are holding at about 40F and people are outside with no jackets and with their car windows rolled down! Your oats in a jar looks like the perfect way to finish our PB before we leave for vacation, thanks for the reminder!
Sarah Ikegami says
Is this not the best part of PB? It looks so pretty with your granola and I love that spoon! I have a thing for fun dishes and love the details in yours!
Have fun today!
Sarah (OC2Seattle) says
Hooray for Omega-3! Hope the health fair goes really well!
Sarah @ THE FOODIE DIARIES says
The last residuey bite is always the best part. I have too many nut butter jars open right now and they are all, like, half full! I’m gonna have to DO WORK so I can see OIAR in my near future…
Heather @ Get Healthy With Heather says
Oats in a jar rock! Best way not to waste any delicious nut butter
Jenna says
Yayy for oiaj and matt!!
Jil says
Yayy OIAJ! Yum, yum, yum!! 🙂
claire says
Coffee looks like the man in the moon to me!
Jenn (www. j3nn.net ) says
Mmmm, those OIAJ look heavenly! The perfect way to wake up to a snowy morning. 😀
I agree, the coffee does look like man in the moon!
Jenn
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
oh goodie i had chia seeds this morning
christina cadden says
Just a question how full of peanut butter was that before you added all that stuff in? I was just wondering before I go use a whole jar up.
Kath says
I showed a photo of it empty!
Sara says
Okay… my BIG question: How did you make OIAPJ (Oats in a plastic jar) without melting the plastic. Did you cook the oats separately and pour them into the jar. This may be a lame Q, but I just don’t think it’s the same without melting the PB in the jar… which seems impossible…. ugh.
Kath says
Oh yes!! I cook them on the stovetop and pour them in!!!!!!!!!
