Jumping from one holiday to another – today is Hillary’s birthday! She and her friend Justine, who is also celebrating her birthday this week, had a big bash this weekend. I couldn’t make it to the wine tasting fun yesterday (
) but Matt and I were happy to join them for brunch at Beer Run this morning!Mint tea to drink. For some reason I’m feeling a little hungover today. I obviously didn’t drink anything last night – except jalapenos! Maybe I just wore myself out this weekend, or drank too much coffee this morning and it’s churning my stomach…? I’m trying to chug water in case I’m just dehydrated.
Matt and I weren’t too hungry since we’d had a later breakfast, so we shared the quiche du jour, which was wonderful!
Plus a side of pesto-spiked grits!
Justine ordered the french toast, but didn’t love it so it got traded around the table. I had several bites for dessert – perfect ending! Sadly it looks more like pulled pork here than a baked french toast, but it sure tasted good!
We are forever indebted to Hillary for introducing us to LOST, so Matt made her this card, which had me laughing out loud.
After the photo, I signed it “ – Matt, Kath and the Osthers”
It is the most gorgeous Easter Sunday you could ever imagine!! I just finished up some housework and am planting myself on the porch for a wee bit of writing while Matt works a few feet away on some real planting – herbs! We’re planning a short hike later!

The salad looks good and refreshing. I had my first sweet since Lent began. A Cherry Bomb pop. It was so nasty. Tasted like medicine. Does that mean my taste buds changed or something? It was like yuck.

As a huge LOST fan, I am loving that birthday card! And those pesto grits look mighty yummy, mmm.
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Wow, that quiche looks so fluffy and delicious! Have fun on your hike! 🙂
Peanutbutterlover says
I haven’t watched much of Lost, but I know that others adore it so much! Mainly, I think that I haven’t watched it BECAUSE of my fear of becoming addicted. If that makes any sense…
kaila @ healthyhelper! says
Love those brunch foods! Pesto spiked grits sound delicious!! What gave them the orange color?!
Allison k says
Haha. Great card! And those grits look intriguing!
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
It’s an absolutely glorious day here in New Jersey!
Lindsay @ In Sweetness and In Health says
Haha love the LOST card :D. So cute! I wish it was gorgeous here! But, since it isn’t that means I won’t feel as bad finishing up some hw! Hope the rest of your day is great
Averie @ Averie Cooks says

And normally I’m not one for grits but boy those look so good and with a kick!

Happy Easter! We spent today at a friend’s birthday party, sadly without the sun you are enjoying and I have 2 other friend’s birthdays today. Clever card.

Haha – that birthday card is pretty fantastic.
That quiche looks fabulous – as does the french toast (pulled pork look and all 😉 )!
Laura @ She Eats Well says
Pesto-spiked grits? Um. Extremely intruiged and drooling over the thought of pesto + grits. Must re-create!
Hillary says
Matt wins for best birthday card of the year. Hands down!

Love your pix! Just a reminder from a fellow herb gardener, basil is fickle and may not like the cold mountain evenings yet…unless he’s planting seeds then I say, dig away! Happy Easter to the whole fam :-))
KathEats says
We are crossing our fingers! The herbs weren’t doing well inside 🙁 Needed more sun!
Maria says
Mmmm, brunch. Definitely the best way to spend Easter/birthdays/basically every day
Leslie says
Hi Kath! I’m a new KERF reader, and I live in Cville, too! Also happened to be at Beer Run this afternoon, as it turns out! Hope you enjoyed the rest of this gorgeous day :o)
KathEats says
Oh fun!! I will look for you around! (Although since I don’t know what you look like, if you see me please say hi!)
Leslie says
Sounds good! I will definitely say hello if I see you around! I play and teach cello locally, and I’m a frequent Cville coffee customer, so I will have to swing by the bakery sometime 🙂
Kara says
This is my second attempt to comment, not sure what happened to #1. Too funny of a card! Have you seen the tee shirts that are a Dairy Queen symbol but say Drama Queen? I think it would be hilarious if same tee shirt said “Dharma Queen” for the those of us who have devoted hours of our lives to watching Lost :). Me included!
KathEats says
Haha!
Ashley says
What are “the Osthers”?
KathEats says
You will have to watch LOST to find out!!!
Ashley says
Well I know what “the Others” are but I’ve seen every episode of Lost and never heard of “the Osthers”.
KathEats says
It’s how Jin pronounces “others” when he runs out of the jungle with his hands tied up
Ashley says
Oh, that’s right! I can’t believe it wasn’t more obvious to me.
KathEats says
One of my favorite scenes 🙂

You might be surprised, but i’ve never seen Lost! 😛 and those grits sound truly unique ~
KathEats says
not surprised at all since I hadn’t seen an episode until this year! But I HIGHLY recommend it!
jojo says
Yeah you probably wore yourself out, sounded like it was a busy weekend!
I hope you get to recharge in the next couple of days 😀
Olivia says
the osthers? you mean the others? i’m confused.
KathEats says
Others pronounced like Jin running out of the jungle!
Khushboo Thadani says
Love that card- homemade ones are so much nicer to receive!
Lexi @ Cura Personalis Foodie says
Haha I thought that was pulled pork at first too!
~Christy @ wonderofallthings says
The grits look really good — at first, I thought it was squash soup! Love the card 🙂
