Greetings! Still vigorously working on house tour – photos are edited and grouped – just have to write that post! With my birthday being tomorrow and Great Harvest’s Amanda here on Thursday, expect it on Friday! Sorry to keep the suspense, but houses are so much harder to write about than food!!
My surgery foot flares up every now and then. Not the bone that I had un-fused, but the tendons that did not like the scalpel and stitches. It’s been bothering me a bit, so I decided not to run today. But it was way too pretty of a day to spend indoors, so I just took myself on a walking tour of Cville instead!
Some of our beautiful streets:
Perfect Park St
Quaint Wine St
Cozy Northwood
Picturesque Locust
Pretty Second St
Gorgeous greenway
Great Harvest Bread Co!
I stopped in to kiss Matt and say hi to our employee friends. Had a Cville Cluster nugget while I was there!!
I power walked for about an hour total – and ended up back home for lunch.
I put together a salad tossed in olive oil, honey and salt and topped it with our leftover pork + apples piece and hunks of Cville Crunch.
The hot apples added so much!!
And afterwards – a birthday appetizer!
[That’s actually 1 slice 3 times, not 3 slices!]
Something very exciting is going on at our house right now – more details to come! Hint: It involves dirt.
Amy says
Nice, you took pictures of my favorite running route! I love our town.
Kelsey says
yeah right.. you totally had 3 slices of cake.
I would!!
Christine @ Oatmeal in my Bowl says
I am with Kelsey… I think it was 3 slices of cake.
No need to cover it up. You’re allowed to indulge on birthday week. 😉
KathEats says
I had to save the last 2 for my actual birthday!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
Happy early birthday! Are you getting a garden?!
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
I would guess that you’re getting a garden, but the end of Oct seems odd for that (not that I know anything about gardens) so I’ll guess landscaping of some sort, like new bushes or a tree!
Irina says
never heard of picturesque locusts before, only of the creepy scary ones which eat all the crops, haha :)). Cville looks and the name sound so idyllic, in my imagination it is like a picture perfect little american town where all neighbours know each other and turn up on your doorstep with a pie once in a while.
kathleen @ the daily crumb says
for some reason i would not think to top a salad with leftover pork — not sure why, it’s a lean protein just like chicken or salmon! looks delicious.
Ashleigh says
What color paint did you use in your hallway? It’s very bright, fresh, and clean.
KathEats says
I will tell you in the post 🙂
Although, actually, that paint was already there..so I don’t know 🙁
Caitlyn says
Things involving dirt can be good or bad. I’m assuming it’s good since only good things should happen on anyone’s birthday week! Maybe a new back deck 🙂
KathEats says
Colder, colder, hotter!!!
Maria @ Sinfully Nutritious says
A honey, olive oil and salt as dressing…sounds so good!
The cville pics are lovely, I wan to visit there someday.
Katie says
A patio maybe?!!!
Happy early birthday!!!!!
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
Sorry your foot is bothering you. Ouch, Kath! That sounds so painful. Hope it gets back to feeling better for you, soon.
And houses being harder to write about than food? Well, lots more pictures, angles, views, and shots to take just for starters. Can’t wait to see the whole piece all written up with the pics!
Angel7 says
I would have thought that you had three pieces of cake–just kidding (LOL) But I could tell they were all the same shot, because the fork was in the exact same position.

Estela @ Weekly Bite says
Can’t wait to what all that dirt is for 🙂
Amanda says
Sorry your foot’s bothering you. 🙁 Hopefully it gets better soon so you can get that run in, although walking through your neighborhood seems lovely.
Looking forward to your house tour later in the week!
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
Great pics! Hmmm hot apples sound so good 🙂
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
It looked like you had such a beautiful, scenic walk!! Sometimes walks are so nice. It’s easier for me to take in my surroundings and enjoy it than when I’m running.
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
Sometimes walks are so nice to take it all in. It can be hard to do that while running since you’re so focused on the effort going into it! Lots of suspense with the house tour and the dirt project!
Johanna B says
I’m not good at figuring out clues so I’ll just wait patiently for the post which springs the surprise. Should we all tweet Happy Birthday to you at midnight tonight?
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
hahaha! I love that you had to clarify that you did not eat 3 pieces of cake.
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Ooh is that carrot cake??! Looks tasty! Curious to hear about the dirt… I’d guess that it was a garden, but it’s fall… sooo…. maybe you’re digging a spot for a hot tub? 😛
Cait's Plate says
A garden!?!?
And GAH! The hot apples are SUCH a good idea! I definitely want to try that!
Zoe @ loseweightandgainhealth says
The cake looks wonderful. Your town does too. I like playing around with different effects on photos. It’s fun and keeps writing and reading blogs interesting. I love the idea of a tour round your town but would love to see clearer pictures one day so I can get a better idea of how lovely it is – please.
Sweet and Savvy says
Tackling a garden project? 🙂 Loved the pics!
sarah@spinach and spice says
Gardening at the Kath Eat’s Casa?! Oohh, that would be exciting!
Love the “around the town” pictures, as well as the hot apples on the cold salad. That hot cold contrast gets me every time, though I haven’t yet tried it with warm apples!
Krystina (Organically Me) says
Don’t worry, if you had 3 slices of cake, I won’t tell. 😉
Trainer Kjirsten @ Balanced Healthy Life says
What a beautiful place to live! I love how perfect all the streets look! I can’t wait for your house post! I always love seeing other’s homes and how they are decorated!
Emily says
I’ll have to try topping my salad with roasted apples. Sounds delicious.
Wild guess, you’re putting in a garden pond?
Lisa (bakebikeblog) says
What a beautifulday for a walk!
Marie@feedingfive says
I think you’ve coined my newest favorite phrase ‘birthday appetizer’. Why didn’t I think of that? Your neighborhood is so picturesque. Homes on the East Coast always seem so full of history. Here where I live it’s all just track homes.
Christina says
Question for you….my husband and I are visiting C’ville for the UVA v. Duke game in November. Is GH going to be serving stuffing bread during Thanksgiving? I LOVE IT and don’t live close to a GH. I’d love to stock up from you if I can 🙂
KathEats says
We are making it Mon-Wed of Thanksgiving week! Is that when it is? I am not sure about the rest of Nov
Cathy says
Happy Birthday! Hope you make lots of wishes and they all come true. 🙂
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
Love the photos and looking forward to the house tour!
Hillary says
I love that cake is a birthday appetizer. That’s an idea I can get on board with!
Anna @ On Anna's Plate says
Dirt…too late for a garden, right? Hmmm… 🙂
I like walking better on pretty days, sometimes– you get to “see” everything for a little longer!!
Brittnie (A Joy Renewed) says
Three slices of cake is totally acceptable on your birthday eve! 🙂
Hope says
I love that you put hot apples on a salad. I’m going to have to try it! 🙂 I think 3 slices of cake sound perfect to me!
Alexa @ Simple Eats says
Actually, three slices would have been will power to me! That cake looks way too good not to devour in one sitting! (Sort of kidding)
Mom says
Me too!
Meagan says
Lol, it’s probably good you clarified the cake photos 😉
Sally says
I absolutely love the first picture in the post with the mint walls and dark brown trimmings and furniture. So fresh and unexpected.
It’s your birthday cake, and I say there is nothing wrong with 3 pieces in one day (should you feel so inclined).
Betsy says
Happy (almost) Birthday, Kath! I’m an October baby as well, best month ever! Also, I just love putting hot fruit on my salads lately. I have been roasting bosc pears in the oven with a little cinnamon and then adding them to salads (and oatmeal in the morning). Positively delish. Can’t wait for the grand house tour!
Emily says
I’ve been reading your blog since I was 15 (about to turn 18- tomorrow!) and I just want to say that it always makes me even more excited for my birthday when I see you get so excited every year! It makes 10/26 feel a little more special to me 🙂
KathEats says
Same birthday as me!?!? Happy B-day!
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
oOooo gardening perhaps? 😉 aww yayyy you have the same birthday as my friend. Ever since last year, I’ve been associating the number 26 with you haha. After all, it is your fave # 😛
Molly @ RDexposed says
Um…Matt is planting barley and hops??
Alaina says
What a gorgeous walk! It’s a bit too urban where I live, so we don’t have pretty streets like that. I can’t wait to move out to the country. 🙂
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
Are you getting a garden!?
Have a fun birthday’s eve (before the big day!)
katie @KatieDid says
mmm pork an apples are awesome, great lunch! My guess would be a garden or maybe a back deck or porch of some sort!
Khushboo says
Three slices of cake? Thas my girl ;)!
Lindsay says
Great pics, fun to take a tour of your town:) And I can’t wait for the home post! I know how you feel…I’m trying to get some new pages up on my blog by Nov. 1st…not sure if I’m going to make it!!
Valerie says
Lovin’ that color on your bedroom walls! Do you mind sharing with me the paint color? The hubby and I just bought our first house and I’ve been racking my brain with what color’s we should put in each room. Needless to say, I’ve been to the Home Depot every day since October 1st! Yikes!

Maybe it should have been three slices! Well, it would have been if it were me… 😉
