Miss me!? I missed you!
On normal Sundays, Matt and I usually ask each other our plans.
Hers:
- Laundry
- Cleaning
- Whole Foods
- A run
- Some blogging
- Reading
His:
- Brewing
- Conan
- Beer drinking
- Going to a friend’s to brew
- A long bike ride
We do often do activities together on Sundays, but we also use the day to recharge and do our very favorite activities.
But today, we did everything together! It was very fun
First, a visit to the new Whole Foods. Matt’s first time – and he still agreed to go a little reluctantly! I lured him there with the excitement of lunch out!
We enjoyed a [very expensive] round of salads and drinks
But really, I’m happy to pay for the convenience of having 26 different prepared salads and veggies ready to eat in 5 minutes! Just not too, too often.
I tried the Guava for the first time. Didn’t love it.
We picked up some produce, yogurt, and cheese and headed home to head out on a bikeventure!
Tune up – much appreciated!
We covered nearly all of the major Charlottesville city neighborhoods!! This is the only road in the city that is all flat!
This is how you do the bike dance: To the left, to the left, to the right, to the riiiight
The ride lasted about 1.75 hours. I took my Camelbak filled with ice water and that was my lifesaver. Couldn’t have survived without it, and it kept me plenty cool. Still, it was a hot, hard ride! Left me covered in gnats!
Afternoon post-ride snack was 3 peanut butter crackers. SO GOOD!
Followed by a quick delicious tomatoy dinner!
We made a quick version of mom’s homemade tomato sauce. Tonight’s included 4 roma tomatoes, 1 can tomato paste, 1/4 cup sundried tomato pesto (Karen’s recipe), 1/4 cup water, 1 handful greens, 5 chopped basil leaves and 1 shot of sherry, stirred in at end. One of my favorite summer recipes!
The huge tomato chunks are so sweet and thick – I used to hate this sauce when I was little and there would be big tomato skins, but now it’s one of my favorite childhood memories!
Matt just kegged his BASIL IPA!! It’s REALLY good!!!!!!!!! I had a taste with dinner
After dinner we watched Mystic River. Talk about a summer mood killer – scary and dark. BUT I really liked it, and I enjoyed the mystery.
Time for some uplifting reading!!
Molly @ RDexposed says
I did exactly everything on your “hers” do list today!
Krissy - Shiawase Life says
Yummo! I dropped by WF for a carton of almond milk + tried the Mango Kombucha today before heading up North. The biking looks fun! Where is that super flat road, what a rarity! 🙂
KathEats says
Locust!
Krissy - Shiawase Life says
Ahhh yes! No wonder it looked so familiar..we drove down that road the other day, there are a lot of lots for sale there so we were checking them out…
Kathleen @ KatsHealthCorner says
How much fun!! 🙂 I love bike rides!! 😀
Baking 'n' Books says
I agree about “Mystic River” – I have a love/hate relationship with those movies. I love the acting and the message behind it, but I hate the darkness and how disturbing they are. The same with “Gone Baby Gone”. Gives me the shivers.
I was wondering how you and Matt find working together and being together most of the time? I know couples who would refuse to work with their significant others!
kaila @ healthy helper! says
I love long rides! SO much fun and great exercise without really feeeeling like exercise! I had Whole Foods salad bar for dinner…..always worth the cash!
Jenny @ Fitness Health and Food says
Yes mystic river is definitely a mood killer! Hope it doesn’t keep you up tonight!
So glad you two had such a great day off! Whole foods plus a bike adventure sounds glorious! 🙂
Have a wonderful start to your week! 🙂
Cait's Plate says
Aw yay for such a fun together day. My significant other and I are the same way – happy to do our own things but happier to get to do things together.
I’m with you on the Whole Foods salads, there’s nothing like ’em but they certainly hurt the wallet. Awesome for a once in a while treat though 🙂
Kristen, Sweetly says
I made your tomato sauce last summer! I remember thinking how many tomatoes it called for, and thinking it was sort of ridiculous how much they cooked up. And then I tasted. Best sauce ever! 🙂 I cannot wait to make it again when my dad’s tomatoes are ready!!!
Laura @ Cookies vs. Carrots says
Looks like a really great Sunday! I love Sundays that mix in a bit of errands with a good dose of relaxing 🙂
That tomato sauce looks delicious!
The Healthy Hipster says
Sometimes I think I’m lucky that Canada doesn’t have QUITE as many Whole Food stores as America…well my tummy isn’t lucky but my bank account sure is! That salad looks deeelish though 😉
Allie (Live Laugh Eat) says
Guava kombucha was my first ever and it was the reason I didn’t like it! It’s not GT’s best. Love the perty flower on your table.

That tomato sauce looks so good — I love big hunks of ‘maters!

Whole Foods salad bar is so expensive. It stinks that we don’t have one. BUT I try to get it when I travel for work and then it becomes part of my food expenses. So I sort of get lucky!

And that tomato sauce? Holy cow, I want to jump through my screen and devour it right this second. I never thought to make tomato sauce with pesto in it, but now that you’ve mentioned it, I am definitely trying that out!
laura says
I went to WF today as well, and ate an assortment of overly priced salads.
So yummy though!
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
Oh how funny~I just loved the Guava kombucha! I only tried two so far, guava is one of them 🙂 What a sweet day together Kath! And I have to be honest in saying that sometimes, I kind of don’t mind paying $7 for a bunch of WF salads and stuff 😉
Aine @ Something to Chew Over says
Looks like you had a great day together! I wish I had a Whole Foods to visit – no sign of them in Ireland yet ;(

Simply Life says
what a fun bike ride!
Hillary says
BASIL IPA? That sounds so bizarre…and refreshing!
Karen says
Mystic River is one of my favorite movies and Clint Eastwood one of my favorite directors. I love a good off-beat, serious movie. But it is indeed a dark drama for an glorious summery day, so I can see how it might have been a buzz kill.
I must remake your mom’s pasta sauce now that fresh tomatoes are in peak season…it’s a sin not to take advantage of their goodness. I remember loving it the few times I made it last summer. It’s nice in that you can make various substitutions based on what you have on hand (as you did last eve) with equally good results.
Lee says
Guava’s not one of my favorites either. Have you tried Citrus? I didn’t think I would like it, but it’s become my second favorite (after passionberry).
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
What a great Sunday! I love long bike rides. I was going to go on one yesterday, but it was WAY too hot here!

Courtney says
Kath, what a fabulous day you and Matt had!
Quick question for you if you have a moment! What brand is the sports bra that you’re wearing? It looks very similar to one that I am pretty sure my friend recommended, but I can’t remember the brand and/or name of it. I’m figuring you love it if you’re wearing it and (commiserating here, hope you don’t mind!) you and I have the same, ahem, build – my chest needs pretty serious support.
Thanks so much!
KathEats says
Moving Comfort!! I got it from Bare Necessities. I love ALL of their bras. I love the Fiona and Juno the best
KathEats says
(That was the Juno)
Courtney says
That was totally the brand and the two types that she recommended – ha! I thought so! Glad to hear another endorsement for them! Thanks, Kath!
Willow @ My Own Trail says
What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday! Oh, how I wish I had a Whole Foods near me. Are the peanut butter crackers made with Carr’s whole wheat crackers? They’re one of my favorite indulgences. I have to restrain myself because I could easily eat the whole box!
KathEats says
Yup! LOVE them
Christine says
So did you get your laundry and cleaning done?! I have countless summer weekends where those 2 chores get moved to Monday night 😉
KathEats says
I’ll be doing laundry on Tuesday 🙂 But I got the rest done!
Rachael @ TheRDrunner says

Mystic River is one of my favorite movies! It’s one of the few DVDs I own because I’ve paid to rent it so many times that it only made financial sense to buy it :]
Nichole says
Every guava I’ve had tasted flat:(.
The Healthy Apple says
My mouth is watering; seriously that is the most amazing pasta dish I’ve ever seen. Drooling right now, Kath….
