So believe it or not, I actually saved Gossip Girl for this morning. I decided I’d enjoy it more with a warm bowl of oatmeal and I was right
I ended up reading Wicked in bed and getting up this morning to create the most wonderful breakfast scenario possible….
Robe + slippers + Gossip Girl + sunshine + pumpkin oats + coffee
Today’s amazing mix:
- 1/3 cup oats, milk, water
- Pinch salt
- Half banana
- 1 tbsp 9-grain cereal
- 1/2 tbsp chia seeds
- 1/3 cup pumpkin, stirred in at end
- Some Cacao Bliss
- Spoonful Barney Butter
- Few TJ’s toasted almonds
I think my Christmas Blend coffee today was African flavored – check out that continent shape!!
Gossip Girl was SOOOO GOOOD!! I could not believe that they played "Whatcha Say" at the dinner table. I was smiling ear-to-ear!! And laughed because I literally DID play that at our Thanksgiving dinner when a discussion of "Hide + Seek" came up (it’s one of my dad’s very favorite songs). Can I just say that I am so ready for both Serena + Nate and Dan + Vanessa to get together!?
This bowl was taken from its placemat and enjoyed during the show 🙂
It’s a frosty one out there – North Carolina hit 32*! I’m going for a run in a bit and working on my final exam (a written take-home) for Nutrition Education this morning.
SweetiePotato says
Haha, love the slippers 😀 Nothing’s better than being bundled up when it’s super chilly outside

I love that bowl! It’s fantastic!
It’s 32 right now here in upstate NY 🙁 Not excited about going outside!

Absolutely WONDERFUL way to spend the morning!!! It was a teensy bit frosty & foggy down here in Fayetteville and I love it! The fog makes everything so beautiful!
Jessie says

And it is super chilly outside! I didn’t wantt to leave my house.
rhodeygirl says
I didn’t see GG yet either! We were watching Big Love on demand. I can’t wait to watch it tonight!
Cassie says
I cannot wait to catch back up on Gossip Girl when I get back to the states! It sounds rather chilly there- how do you muster through running when it is so cold outside? My gym membership is almost up here in Spain and since I only have a couple weeks left, I am going to stick to running outside but with the temperatures dropping- it’s harder to get out the door!
Tammy @ Defining Wellness says
You know, I’ve never seen Gossip Girl, and now I really want to watch it. I’m with Jessica — I need to get the DVDs.
Pumpkin oats are the best — no, I take that back — Tammy’s Butternut CasserBowl is the best! You gotta try it, Kath! Check out my recipes page under oatmeal — you will LOVE butternut squash in your oats!
Kath says
I’ve tried butternut squash, but I always go back to pumpkin 🙂
Get the DVDs!
Erin says
It’s cold here in DC, too — I’m trying to work up the motivation to head out for a run but might wait another hour or so and hope it warms up. 😉
Ashley says
ahhh Gossip Girl- it’s the little pleasures in life 🙂
Kristin @ Iowa Girl Eats says
Hahaha I know – I was yelling at my television when Serena picked Tripp. What a dope!
Ashley says
I love that bowl! Where did you get it?
Kath says
It was hand-made by my neighbor.
Jessica @ JJsVinBlanc says
That sounds like the perfect, cozy breakfast. Wish I was there with you!
jessicaamc says
Oh my goodness I was laughing too when I heard Whatcha Say on GG last night.
I completely agree on the couples needing to get together. S is so dumb for choosing Tripp. And I have a feeling she’s gonna get it from wifeyyy!!!
Sarah says
We got down to 32* in Kentucky last night too, brrr! It’s going to warm up here today but then we’re getting a major cold front coming through. Hope you have a great day, you certainly had what looks like a fun morning 🙂
Erin says
Oh my gosh, that sounds like THE most amazing morning and I don’t even watch Gossip Girl! I think I need to get on that train 🙂

megan says

Erin says
Kath,
I wanted to tell you that you’ve inspired me to experiment with oatmeal and this morning I put half a banana, 1/2 tsp of cinnamon (or so – I don’t measure things unless I’m baking!), and about two tablespoonfuls of apple butter plus some flax seeds. Really yummy and now i need more apple butter! I also need to try pumpkin butter.
Also, I’m a Davidson grad too. 🙂 Go Wildcats.
Kath says
Fun fun!!! go cats 🙂 what year were you?
Lauren @ Eater not a runner says
So jealous of the robe+slippers combo! It was freeeezing this morning.

Hard choice, but I’d say Blair. Serena is just DUMB sometimes!! And I’m more like Blair 🙂
lindsay says

That sounds like a good morning! My favorite GG quote from last night:
Chuck Bass: “You two ever play grab-ass in my elevator again and Serena will be staying at the airport Mariott.”
I love him.
Kath says
Yes, great line!!
Paige(Running Around Normal) says
What a perfect combination! I wish I had enough time in the morning to do that. *Jealous!*
That bowl you’re eating your oatmeal out of is SO pretty!
Megan says
Whoa!! Colder in Carolina than NYC!!
I think GG is soooo much worse this season…thoughts?
Kath says
At first, yes. I hated the whole college scene. But I think the plot now is as good as ever. Something does need to get shaken up with Chuck and Blair though. Not necessarily their relationship, but to one of them. I love them together, but the seemed to have tamed too much.
Sarah @ The Foodie Diaries says
I still need to watch! I think I’m going to make it a lunch affair. I LOVE that bowl!!
theemptynutjar says
Hi Kath
I have started my own blog. It would be nice if you could drop by occasionally, but you are a bit overwhelmed with friends here I think. You are very ,…well., you have your head on straight. No hang ups about food, no worries about things (well, nothing drastic I don’t think anyway 🙂 That is great when there is a lot of deprivation being practiced these days by many, etc. I appreciate your love of carbs. Excellent bowl of cocoa chilli recently.
Beth @ DiningAndDishing says
I loooove Imogen Heap’s Watcha Say and HATE the new version!! Totally ruined an amazing song and I’m super bummed! I was mad when I heard it on GG last night :O)
Katie says
Kath! Love your blog. Love your pics. You and all the other blog divas out there totally inspired me to start my own. Thanks! Happy December!
Kath says
Thanks!!
Mama Pea says
Your pajama combo cracks me up: brown and red argyle socks, yellow plaid pants and a pink robe! Perfect (says she who is STILL wearing pink striped pants, a purple shirt and red slippers)!
Kath says
🙂
Julie says
That bowl of oats looks delicious!
Chelsea says
That looks like someone made that bowl. I have one like that that my Dad made-I love it.
Tiffanie says
LOVE the socks! 🙂 You look snug as a bug in a rug!
I have a degree in Food and Nutrition Science from Florida State University! I never went on for my masters or completed my R.D. internship, so it’s basically just a piece of paper 🙁 I wish I had gone thru with it. I LOVED my classes, but I was a bit burnt out of school and the thought of two more years was UGH at the time.
It all worked out for the best since I’m now a Stay at Home mommy to two little guys, but still would be nice to have those initials next to my name! 🙂 Mommy, R.D.
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
brekkie looks great – haven’t seen gossip girl yet – i usually save it for nights (yes my hubby does watch it with me, but in his defense it’s because we miss nyc so much)
Kelly says
So not to get all serious but I was wondering if you could comment on the eating and media combo. you obviously do it (as do I, I don’t have TV, but live alone so am often online when I eat… eating lunch now actually) and it is so ingrained in our culture (tv and snacks, movie theater and popcorn, etc) yet we often hear, especially for dieters, that it is a bad idea and disconnects you from your food and body cues. I am just wondering what you think/what strategies you have because I am torn. Living alone I like to have something to do during meals BUT I do sometimes find myself getting involved online and then being like oh where did my food go? very unsatisfying, same thing if I munch w/ a book or mag.
Thanks
Kath says
Just because the “officials” say we eat mindlessly in front of the TV doesn’t mean we have to do it!! I will often eat things in bowls at the TV, but things on plates at the table. It’s just kind of my rule. Bowels are good for cuddling. I actually eat more slowly while watching a show. If I’m at the table, I eat quickly because it’s all there is to do! (Except when Matt’s there we talk). So I think so long as you’re still enjoying the food, eat it whereever you like.
Erin says
Love your argyle socks girl!
If only I could love oats like Kath…alas, tis not for me. 🙁
Stay warm!
Tay says
And now “whatcha say” is back stuck in my head thank you very much 😉
Jenn says
I can’t watch GG ’till I go home this weekend 🙁 Looking forward to it, though. Have a great day!
Tina says
Oooh looks like a perfect morning! I too am ready for Serena and Nate to get together!!
Sabina says
You typed 32* for 32°. Here’s a quick way to insert the ° (degree) symbol:
1. Make sure number lock is on.
2. Hold down the alt key.
3. Using the key pad, type 5, then 0, then 4.
4. Release the alt key.
Presto! A degree symbol (the holding down of the alt key and then typing numbers is called an ASCII code).
🙂
Kath says
Cool!!
Testing: 26°
Hey it worked!! Not sure if I’ll remember that though 🙂
Jenna says
sounds like a perfect morning to me! i missed GG last night tho 🙁

Ooo that’s chilly, for Florida at least. I am going to have to start running outside in chillier weather, I am going to train for a half in march and it’s pretty chilly. Mostly 50’s so I guess not that bad, still I am not used to layering for a run!
