Gosh was this Dough Boy Smoothie INCREDIBLE!!!! I topped it with berries galore, which were all on sale at Whole Foods. I vouch to spend lots and lots of money on berries while they are affordable and in season this year to get my fill! I will no longer have guilt buying them, and I plan to get a pint of each flavor every week until they are gone! Berries are most definitely my favorite fruit!
It tasted like melted strawberry cheesecake ice cream! Just look at that fluffy texture!
On the side: cool coffee + choffy blend!
I’m off to make DINNER (!), then to Body Pump then to the bakery for lunch and onwards.
Strawberry Cheesecake Dough Boy Smoothie
Ingredients
- 5 strawberries
- 1/3 cup raw rolled oats
- 1/2 cup plain low-fat yogurt Whole Foods organic
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tbsp chia or flax seeds optional
- No banana!!!! Which helped make this taste the most cheesecakey, I think!
- Pinch of salt
- Sprinkle cinnamon
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients together in a blender. Do not blend. Put blender in the fridge overnight. In the morning, blend!
- Pour into bowl and top with berries and the most delicious granola you can find!
Alex says
I <3 berries too.
Personally, I'm in a strawberry frenzie right now. I just put them on EVERYTHING. I actually got the idea of putting them into salads from your blog! Thanks 🙂
Khushboo says
When it comes to colored foods, I’m such a kid at heart! Pink food is always so pleasing to eat…even more so when berries are involved!
Hope says
I love the color of that smoothie! It really does look like ice cream. Better yet, it looks more like a milkshake. Yummy! 🙂
Miranda @ Working Mom Works Out says
I agree- There should be no berry buying guilt!
Molly @ RDexposed says
I had intentions of the same breakfast until I realized a missing ingredient. I made sure to top my re-routed breakfast with berries, too!
Cait's Plate says
Oh my that looks like a strawberry milkshake! It’s so thick! I have yet to perfect the SIAB but I’m hoping one day mine will look as good as yours!
Jen says
Berries are by far my favorite fruit as well =) I love it when the grocery store has buy 1 get 1… and I agree. Never feel guilt and eat up. They are only good for a few months so lets get all our vitamins we can from these delicious treats.

Baking 'n' Books says
Do you usually plan out breakfast the night before just according to what you think you may want?
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
You had me at cheesecake. YUM!
The Healthy Hipster says
Mmm looks so thick and creamy! Still gotta try one of these heavenly dough boys!
Lindsay says
The hubs and I are CRAZY over blackberries right now! We can’t get enough of them to stock the fridge for long! Berries and watermelon just FEEL like summer, ya know?
Mrs. Fish says
Your smoothie bowl looks divine! 🙂
Nikki says
Mmmm delish. Berries definitely are awesome and refreshing on hot summer days!
Heather says
Ohh that looks so yummie! I am making that tomorrow for breakfast!! Have you ever made it without the yogurt~ could I just do all a nut milk for I can not have milk products without the yogurt?
How much granola do you top it with?
~Heather
KathEats says
I think the yogurt is key for the doughy texture, but you could certainly do it without.
As much granola as you see in the photo! I don’t measure.
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Yumm! Interested to hear about this dinner… sounds like it needs lots of prep!
KathEats says
Not a lot of prep – just a lot of time for flavors to develop 🙂
Estela @ Weekly Bite says
That smoothie does look yummy! Love the ice coffee in mason jars 🙂
Hannah says
You’re right, that looks so fluffy! I wish berries were affordable here – sadly they aren’t, even when in season. Eat a pint or four for me! 🙂
Aine @ Something to Chew Over says
Good to know that I’m not the only one who has berry guilt! It’s seems crazy buying one serving of berries for the cost of a week’s supply of apples and bananas but they’re worth it!
They don’t seem to be any cheaper during the summer for me 🙁
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
This is soo good-looking!! no banana!? really…wow I always put those in my smoothies! but I have to try it without now! My breakfast lately has been smoothered in berries too. I love summa fo that 🙂
Lauren @ Lawfully Wedded Wife says
Looks devine! I’m so with you on the berry front, this is the time to take full advantage of the season while we can!!!
Amy says
That coffee/choffy looks like a glass of beer!
Lisa Fine says
I love berries too, and can’t get my fill. I’m really excited for our berry bushes to have fruit ready for picking… every day I check on them, but we still have a few weeks until raspberry and blueberry season.
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
I need to try the dough boy smoothie…I keep forgetting and then I see yours and get so jealous!
E says
I’m a berry lover, too, but mostly just rasperries and I do love strawberries when they’re very good homegrown ones. I unfortunately only like blueberries cooked/baked in other foods….
Colleen (What's Baking in the Barbershop) says
What a pretty pink breakfast! I just got some super fresh strawberries straight from a farm in NH… I think I may need to use them to make a similar smoothie to this!
The Teenage Taste says
I need to try this! I made the original Doughboy smoothie and I loved it! Thanks for the recipe, Kath! 🙂
Amy says
Looks delicious!
Question: Where do you get all your jars? I bring overnight oats to work for breakfast everyday but I bring them in tupperware (which I then have to wrap in plastic….less than ideal). I need some jars!
KathEats says
I bought a 12 pack of Ball jars at Lowes last summer. And then I collect them from jams/nut butters that I use up.
Angie @ Musings of a Violet Monkey says
Amy – I’m addicted to Ball jars, so just thought I’d add my .02. I make OOIAJ all the time, and the jars (w/ lids of course) are perfect for this. I, too, have to schlep my breakfast to work with me, so this has been tested again and again!
I get my Ball jars at various places… a local independent hardware store… Walmart also has them (hate to plug them – but they do)… as does LOWES as Kath said. Amazon.com also carries them sometimes, and even Target carries a few of the smaller sizes.
I love them, and think they are definitely worth the $$ (which isn’t much, all things considered).

Sarah says
Berries get so expensive after the summer! Once I graduate I plan on stocking up during the summer months and freezing them so I have them for months after!
Angela (Oh She Glows) says
I’m the same way with berries. I decided life is too short not to allow myself to buy the fruit I LOVE, even if it is a bit pricier. I used to never buy berries and expensive fruit, but what fun is that!
Victoria says
Hi Kath!
I was wondering if you have a good recommendation for a restaurant in Charlotte? My boyfriend and I are visiting this weekend, and we wanted your expertise!
🙂
KathEats says
Casual or fancy?
For fancy, we loved Sonoma Modern Kitchen downtown.
For casual, Brixx Pizza or Zada Janes
Jil @ Big City, Lil' Kitchen says
Love the doughboys!
Karen says
I feel the same way: fresh berries this time of year are simply too delicious to deny myself, esp. at these low (ish) prices. This month, the peak-season blueberries are my favorites. I’m popping them like candy!
Happy Monday, Kath!
andrea says
I’m crazy about blueberries, I can eat a pint a DAY if you let me. And berries are one of those things I’ll only buy organic. I calculated what I was spending on blueberries alone the other day and it was a bit scary 🙂
Natalia - a side of simple says
I just have to ask…does this mean bananas are NOT your favorite?
KathEats says
Well it’s a VERY close call!! Bananas are more versatile, but I just love all things raspberry
Lauri (Redheadrecipes.com) says
Berries are my favorite too! I like to buy them in bulk whenever they are on sale and then freeze them!
Ashley says
Strawberry cheesecake? Ummm, send one right over!! Speaking of berries, I need to restock now that we’re finally back home!
Liv @ The Salty n' Sweet says
Love blueberries and blackberries, but raspberries are just not my thing. But your dough boy smoothie looks so good I’ll have to make one myself for tomorrow 🙂
Sarah@The Flying ONION says
I’m 100% with you on the berries. Although I *do* feel guilty for buying them due to the price, I’ve decided I’d rather give up other things and indulge in some berry goodness. They come but once a year! And the season is so short lived.
Making this dough boy smoothie tomorrow! Or, maybe, for lunch. 😀
Megan says
Kath – What does the pinch of salt do to the smoothie? thx
KathEats says
It brings out the flavors! I can’t really taste it, but when I leave it out of outs I feel they are more bland
rumfunandsun says
Excited to see dinner…any hints???
KathEats says
It’s chilled!
rumfunandsun says
Chilled and you need to prep it ahead for the flavors to develop….hmmm.
I instantly think smoothie but that seems to normal to keep as a secret! Let me think about it more! 🙂
lynn @ the actor's diet says
looks incredible, kath! i posted it on my FB wall!
Jackie @ That Deep Breath says
I love berries! Last week I found out my best friend of 14 years hates strawberries…1)how did I not know that…2)who hates strawberries!?!? she also hates chocolate…I don’t know how I’ve been her best friend for this long 🙂
That smoothie has an awesome texture. Dinner must be extra special if your cooking it before lunch!
Lee @ in the pink of condition says
Your dough boy smoothies are the best! You should totally add a couple cinammon Teddy Grahams (after you’ve prepared the smoothie) who are “swimming” in the smoothie as little dough boys! It will also add the graham cracker taste to your cheesecake 🙂 Just a cute idea!
KathEats says
Hee hee
Anastasia says
You had me at cheesecake :] Looks delicious!
birdie to be says
This looks amazing! And is making me hungry! Great recipe.
Foodie says
Oh yum! Enjoying cheesecake-like taste without the sugar and calories is priceless. Thanks!
Michelle (The Runner's Plate) says
I need to get on this Dough Boy wagon!
Cait @ Urban Fencepost says
I keep finding berries on sale at Whole Foods too! Love them! Must be nice getting dinner prep out of the way this early!
Marissa says
Mmm, I love berries too–eating a bowl of cereal with blueberries as I type this! But even at their cheapest, berries are still too expensive for us to buy… so I have to make do with the frozen version. Still delicious, and I don’t have to worry about using them up before they go bad (though I doubt that would be a problem anyways, lol!)
Have you thought about blending some cream cheese into your smoothies? I beat that would give it a real rich cheesecakey flavor!
KathEats says
I rarely have cream cheese on hand because it’s so nutritionally void, but I actually DO have some right now I bought for a recipe! Maybe I should add some..
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
What an awesome smoothie! I think I’m going to have to change my meal plan and make this one morning this week! Have fun at body pump! When do you start your dance classes?
KathEats says
July 12!
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
Yay!! That is so exciting! I can’t wait to read all about it!
kris (everyday oats) says
Yummy! I just went through two boxes of organic strawberries from whole foods this past week. They were seriously THE sweetest strawberries I’ve had all year AND they were on sale!
kaila @ healthyhelper! says
That looks SO refreshing! Perfect for a hot summer day!
Margo @ peanut butter trees says
I completely agree on the berries! I feel like I need to eat them all up now while they’re fresh, cheap, and in season. The more, the berrier!
Susan (Oliepants) says
What a pretty smoothie! I already have my oats soaking for tomorrow!
Namaste Gurl says
I had a dough- boy smooothie this morning, as well– thanks to your inspiration 🙂
I used scottish oats, banana, cinnamon, flax, and berries!
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
Berries are my favorite too! I love buying them when they’re so cheap 🙂
Hillary says
I’ve also been buying insane quantities of berries. They are staring me in the face every time I go grocery shopping, and I can’t look away!!
Danielle says
Yay! I don’t like bananas and have been waiting for the day you make a delicious b-nan free dough boy smoothie! Thanks! 😀
Angel7 says
I love berries, too, and the antioxidants they have in them are so good for you!
Last week or so, I bought a container of raspberries and a container of blackberries when they were on sale, and then went back to the store and bought two more containers of raspberries. Our 3 year-old daughter loves raspberries so much that she would eat a whole container of them if I let her 🙂

Fran says
I’ve really gotten into berries lately too. I need to get to our local produce stand to get some blueberries that I can freeze. Earlier in the year I found a bag of frozen blueberries from 2 years ago. They had to be because I didn’t freeze any last summer. I was worried to use them but decided I would. Put them in my oatmeal and they were as good as if they were fresh from the farm stand! Amazing! I need to stock up!
Mary says
I just tried my first Dough Boy Smoothie this AM, and made almost the same bowl (except mine had half a banana and no yogurt – still great though!). I also LOVE berries. This is the best time of the year.
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I love berries too! Unfortunately the only ones that are in season here right now are strawberries… and I’m starting to get sick of them. I can’t wait til raspberries are ready in 2 weeks! 😀
Catherine@happinessafterheartache says
This looks so yummy and easy to make, but I am SO lazy! I wish my husband would make stuff like this, he’s the chef, so then I just defer to him. I guess I should be a big girl and try to eat some new (healthier) things like this, especially now that I’m off for the summer and I have more free time. Sort of.
Maria @ Beautiful Busy Bee says
Wow I’ve heard of your dough smoothies but never looked on the recipe page to find one! you should make brownie batter flavored dough boys. it would be just like licking the bowl after putting brownies in to bake!! 🙂
KathEats says
Ooooooo brownie batter!! I’m not the biggest chocolate craver in the mornings so I haven’t wanted to do that, but I totally should!
Kristin @ eat healthy. be happy. live well. says
I am a huge berry fan!!! I just picked about a gallon of blackberries and black raspberries off our property 🙂 I’m so excited to make cobbler and jam this week!!! We also have some red raspberry bushes growing, so hopefully I’ll be able to get a good amount from there too. I love the smoothie- I will definitely be trying this soon!
Aly says
This. looks. heavenly. For a few reasons of mine:
A. I’m a huge fan of overnight oats, and this takes a nice spin on that 🙂
B. I <3 berries and I happened to stock up on some frozen ones
C. I have all of these ingredients right now
What I've deduced from the above three points is that this will definitely be made sometime this week for breakfast 🙂 Thanks!
Andrea says
This is such a delicious smoothie! Love your dough boy smoothies Kath.
