Boy has today been busy!!
I would like to give a shout out to Winthrop University for giving out FREE transcripts to students!! Davidson and Queens each made me pay, taking $10.25 from my personal money budget this month š (See how the system is already helping me realize where money goes!)
I would also like to shout out to the iPhone app Spend, which I downloaded for $.99. I set up budgets for our vacations, home and personal allotments this month and really like how the app works! I love having Mintās app to check all of our spending categories per our actual purchases, but Spend is great to track the unplanned stuff as it happens. You have to manually add a transaction, but since Iām only tracking unnecessary expenses in it, there shouldnāt be that many (another motivator to spend less ā more transactions to enter!)
I would lastly like to express my discontent with the Invisible Shield for the iPhone. I spent twenty dollars on this screen shield when I bought my phone because it was unscratchable and highly recommended. Well last week I was demonstrating the unscratchableness and my THUMBNAIL (which is totally not sharp) left huge scratches on the shield!! It has a lifetime warranty so I decided to try to do that. They make you jump through all kinds of hoops first to register the product and itās still $3.95 AND you have to send back the original. When I took the shield off of my phone for the first time since I bought it, I LOVED the natural screen!! So I think Iām just going to keep it natural and hope I donāt scratch it. (I do have a protection plan with Best Buy if I do encounter any damage, thankfully.) Invisible Shield does not get my KERF stamp!
Some non-food products that do: Swiffer Sweeper Vac (itās everything I wanted!!!) and duster, Mrs. Meyers products, everything Neutrogena (sunscreens, eye make-up remover pads, mascara, and more), GMAIL!!!!, and Bare Minerals.
I worked on my RD internship (the REAL internship) this morning too, sending off some recommendations and transcript requests. Guf!!
And I finally had lunch at 2:30!! Not sure why I wasnāt that hungry all morning. I think I am just used to a later lunch and being busy mentally these days.
Luckily I had some easy leftovers to re-heat: gumbo, rice + corn.
About a cup of rice, a cup of gumbo (very liquidy) and a sprinkle of cheese –
Back to the computer!
Oh waitā¦ Iām already on it

Whitney says
I love your corn in the cup!
Lindsey (Mrs. LC) says
Ugh I feel you on the transcripts taking a chunk of your budget! My husband was recently putting applications in at a lot of different FL counties for teaching positions – UCF (our alma mater) charges $10 per transcript! It sucked because education is in a dismal state right now and there are so few jobs available, so you have to apply to many counties. But even 5 counties later you’re down $50. :/

You have to try Boxwave screen protectors. They are amazing and the only thing I will use for my blackberry, gps and camera screen.

Kristin @ Iowa Girl Eats says
Weird! Maybe you got a defective shield – becuase my brother’s is literally un-scratchable?!?!? Anyways, that stinks that they make you jump through all those hoops š Love Neutrogena stuff too – department store quality for drugstore prices!!
Emily says
I hate paying for transcripts! Especially when you’ve gone to more than one school and are applying to so many internships…makes it pretty expensive!
Hope the internship applications are going well. I stayed organized by putting info for each school into a separate envelope and using a post-it to cross out materials as they came in. I also put my applications into a clear plastic envelope before putting them into the mailer to protect them from water damage. š

I hate having to pay for transcripts! I’ve paid those schools enough that they should be able to give me a piece of paper. so frustrating.
have a great afternoon!

Nice way to keep your corn upright!
Sarah says
I just tried my first La Croix today, and I’m hooked! Who knew that my soda craving could be taken care of so easily?
Lynn (The Actors Diet) says
Agreed – Neutrogena and Bare Minerals are where it’s at!
Casey @ Double Scooped says
Isn’t that SO annoying that you have to pay to obtain your OWN transcript?! It’s not like it takes hours of work to find or anything!!
Vanessa (Last Night's Leftovers) says
I hate paying for transcripts š

I thought paying for transcripts w/ my law school applications was so horrible. It was my freaking transcript! A copying fee, sure, but $10? Doesn’t seem fair.
And then I took a couple of bar exams — that doesn’t just require transcripts and background checks and credit reports and license check-ups, it also requires you to drop freaking thousands of dollars just for the privilege of sitting for the exam. It’s so ridiculous when you’re just trying to freaking go to school and get an education or get a job, and you have to pony up so much cash.
Still recovering from that one (never mind the school debt!)
Faith says
I love Bare Minerals also!
Your lunch looks so yummy…love the okra peeking out!
Mrs. Myers @ Eat Move Write says
buahahaha I almost fell out of my chair when you said “Mrs Meyers products”… I’m like what? Huh? Who?
By the way, you’re completely cracking me up with all this pennythrift talk. You really do blog-stalk that Save Like Me, don’t you? Love it. lol
Caronae says
I love Mrs. Meyer’s cleaning products too! And I also love your corn in the cup!
MarathonVal says
Thanks for mentioning your likes and dislikes about your iPhone – I’m debating whether or not to get one so I appreciate you advice!
Susan says
Love the corn shot in the glass (which, bytheway, is an awesome way to hold corn on the cob).
I have to ask – is okra a southern US thing? I’ve never seen it anywhere up north before! It totally intrigues me.
LK- Healthy Delcious says
yum on the gumbo! its one of my favorites!
I never like the way screen protectors look. Even though they’re “invisible” you can totally tell they’re on there.
Heather says
Kath,
I’ve had my iPhone for a year now and I just put a screen protector on it a few months ago. As long as you’re careful (like putting it in a separate pocket in your purse), then you should be good. The screen is practically indestructible!
Your grilled corn looks awesome!
Tiffany! Van says
That corn looked so strange in the first photo! I was thinking “wow! what kind of fruit is that?!?” Haha.
leslie says
sometimes leftovers can be so nice. i love the natural look of the iphone too, but i’m paranoid about scratching it, and mine is covered with that screen cover and an ugly rubber case. not so nice anymore!
Richard says
I know, I know. This is probably another silly question. And you may have already answered it in a previous post, before I started reading katheats. But I’d be interested in knowing “where” you got the small table in your backyard that you use for photographing much of the food. I think I’m fascinated by the way the table “color coordinates” with just about anything you put on it? Is this a family heirloom? Or is it available somewhere? Thanks.
Emily says
I second your approval on all of those items š
Joelle (Chasing Pavements) says
Haha I love that corn in the cup.. I’m having corn on the cob tonight too!
Rebecca says
Wow! Free transcripts! That’s amazing. My school charges $3 a copy.
I want an iPhone! My brother just got one and it’s so cool!
Kath says
Mrs. Myers @ Eat Move Write,
Haha – the first time I saw your name I thought you were them!
Susan ,
I do believe it’s southern š
Heather,
Good 2 know.
Richard ,
I have answered it many times, but it is a good question š It’s from a friend of my mom’s, so unfortunately I don’t know where it is from. Sorry!
Kath

I think you may have gotten a defective shield. Best Buy Mobile workers are usually pretty good with those so I wouldn’t think it’s an installation problem. Kevin and I both have them on our phones, and I have never had to replace mine. Kevin had replaced his once, but he had the one that wrapped arounf his whole phone. And with the Best Buy discount, it didn’t cost him much. Kev scratches his with his keys at work all the time (to show customers how well they work), and he never has any trouble. So I would maybe go to Best Buy and tell them that you think it was defective – maybe they can help without you having to deal with the company or shipping fees
