The Overnight Resurfacing Peel is one of Beautycounter’s best-selling safer skincare products. Here’s my honest review of this fan-favorite exfoliating serum.
If you’re looking for a single skincare product that will give your skin a major glow-up, this is it – Beautycounter’s Counter+ Overnight Resurfacing Peel.
You’ve probably heard me rave about this product already as it’s significantly improved the evenness of my complexion from from pregnancy and soccer game fun in the sun.
I’ve been really pleased with my results using this every other night in conjunction with the Countertime Regimen. It’s an absolute staple in my skincare routine.
This serum is a gentle, leave-on peel.
It’s nothing like a strong chemical peel from a dermatologist – your skin does not actually flake off). The Overnight Peel is made with resurfacing and soothing acids to reduce dark spots, minimize the appearance of pore size, and promote even skin tone. Of all Beautycounter products, this is definitely in my top 10 – and can be used on all skin types.
For night use only!
Products with active ingredients (like the peel) are best to use at night when you’re out of the sun, so as the product indicates: do not use this during the day.
It has over 5,600 five star reviews
There are a lot of not-so-clean products out there that can help with evening skin tone, but Beautycounter has strict safety standards and ingredient transparency for all of their products which is important to me. And, bonus: this product is considered safe for pregnancy and breastfeeding.
I’m dedicating an entire post to this cult-favorite safer skincare serum because it’s a product that has significantly changed my skin for the better.
Beautycounter Counter+ Overnight Resurfacing Peel Review
Goodnight, dullness. Good morning, glow.
What is it: Featuring a proprietary multi-acid complex, this leave-on AHA/BHA peel improves skin texture and boosts clarity without irritation or over-drying. With glycolic acid, malic acid, and botanically derived lactic acid, the formula clears away dull, dead skin cells, while arginine and essential fatty acids help soothe to reveal a brighter, healthier looking, renewed complexion.
Key Ingredients
- Glycolic Acid: improves skin texture, resurfaces, exfoliates.
- Lactic Acid: stimulates cell renewal promoting a smoother, radiant-looking complexion.
- Citric Acid: helps refine and renew skin.
- Arginine & Fatty Acids: aid in conditioning and moisturizing skin.
What does the peel do?
- 15 botanically-derived acids resurface your skin without causing irritation – it’s gentle, yet effective!
- 9 of those are resurfacing acids that work to renew the skin by sloughing off dead skin cells
- 6 are soothing acids that rehydrate and replenish dry skin
- Note: skin does not actually peel or flake off like a peel that you may get from a dermatologist
How to Use The Overnight Resurfacing Peel
-
Use the peel 2-4 times a week at night in place of your serum, after cleansing and before moisturizing. Revisit how to apply products here.
-
Wait 3-5 minutes after applying the peel before applying your moisturizer and eye cream – it might tingle a bit, but it’s working!
-
Leave on overnight and complete your usual morning skin regimen – this is a leave-on peel, no need to rinse off.
-
Make sure to apply a moisturizer (I use the Countertime Supreme Cream) to lock it all in for the night.
Does the Beautycounter Counter+ Overnight Resurfacing Peel work?
I’ve been using the Overnight Resurfacing Peel for 2+ years now. So have I noticed results? Yes, 100%! This is one of those products that you’re not going to put on a “see” (like a lipstick or even a moisturizer) but you will suddenly look in the mirror after a few weeks and say “wait a second, my skin looks better.”
Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop
It’s also one of those when you stop using it you might notice. I ran out for a while (like a month) earlier this year as I waited for a new bottle to arrive and that was not a great month.
Using the peel in conjunction with Countertime and the All Bright C Serum has helped my skin a ton! My esthetician gives me two thumbs up on my at-home routine.
IF YOU ONLY BUY ONE THING
This should be it! It’s the first product I recommend to anyone who wants to level up their skincare but doesn’t have the budget or need to overhaul everything all at once.

Yes, all of Beautycounter’s products are safe to use during pregnancy and nursing. It does contain some acids, but they are at levels considered safe. They can check with their OBs to be sure.
