Every morning when I lie in bed (and the sun is shining) I think: I love mornings outside – I should go for a dewy walk before breakfast.
And then my stomach growls. And I think about how much more I’d enjoy the walk after I eat. With running this isn’t an option because I can’t run with a full stomach, but I can walk after 10 ice cream cones, so I always end up eating breakfast first.
That said, I’m headed out on a walk NOW before it gets too hot! The rest of my day is busy and this is my only good window (since it’s sweat weather).
I made a super filling, overflowing bowl of yogurt, fruit and muffin for breakfast.
Plain greek yogurt, the last of the Frog Hollow Farm peaches (which were honestly the best I’ve ever eaten – a dozen gone in a week!), a big handful of blueberries, chia seeds, crumbled whole wheat Great Harvest Morning Glory Muffin and of course, sunflower butter.
Iced coffee concentrate lasted me 3 days this week – I think I’ve been using too much each morning!!
Hasta la vista!

What a delicious and colorful breakfast!
Brie @ Coxswain Dilemma says
This morning was SO hot (7:30am, it was 85), I couldn’t think of anything other than a cold breakfast either!
Erica { EricaDHouse.com } says
I always struggle in the morning with deciding between working out or eating breakfast first. If I eat first and let it digest for about an hour my workouts are SO much more effective – but sometimes I wish I could save that hour of ‘digestion’ time and just work out immediately after waking up!
The Mrs @ Success Along the Weigh says
Now THAT looks like a breakfast that’s going to last ya a while! Enjoy your walk!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
If I wake up with a growling stomach I always eat a little something before my run, I hate running super hungry! It’s usually just a half a banana though so it doesn’t upset my stomach!
Jordan @ Bake Write Sleep says
In Florida, you pretty much have to go walking at 7am or 10pm to avoid the heat. It’s so humid outside that it stays HOT until long after dark. Lameeee!
Laura Rios says
I always have to put something small on my stomach if I’m running.
That looks good!
Rebecca @ Blueberry Smiles says
Frog Hollow really does have the best peaches (apricots too). They’re worth every expensive penny
Lindsey @ Pas de Deux says
I went on a VERY sweaty walk/run this morning! I love being outside as the sun rises and the world wakes up. Hope your walk was lovely 🙂
Cait's Plate says
That looks like a perfect way to start the day! I struggle with the same problem in the morning. Ultimately I always realize that if i’m going to work out first, I’ll most likely have to feel a little hungry otherwise it’s best to wait!
Enjoy your walk!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Looks like the perfect summer bowl of goodness! I agree, I can walk with a full stomach, but running is a no go. I hope you get that walk in you wanted!
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
definitely looks like the perfect summer breakfast! enjoy your walk!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
OMG I have those SAME thoughts on a Sunday morning Kath!! It’s normally my day off from intense workouts so I always go to bed thinking “If it’s sunny in the morning, I’ll get up and go for a little walk before breakfast”… then I get out of bed and get dressed, and I NEED food!! Your bowl this morning would definitely hit the spot! 🙂
Khushboo says
I love weight training for that very reason: I don’t need time to digest my meal!
Lynn @ the actor's diet says
I usually walk before Bfast. Or I walk TO Bfast as motivation!!
Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says
Big storm came through early this morning and disrupted my intended run…rode the stationary bike instead. Hopefully, the storm will have broken the heat wave that we experienced yesterday! Looking forward to opening up some windows and letting the fresh air in! Enjoy your walk…early morning walks are the best!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
I just talked about the eating vs. workout out dilemma today on my blog. It’s like I want to get going and not feel full when I head out, but half way through my workout I’m starving. I need something half way!
Millie Snyder says
Yum! You’re breakfast looks extra delicious today. Blueberries are my favorite and lately I’ve been hooked on the peach/nectarine and dairy combo. Usually I go for the berries but there’s something sweet about peaches, I’m addicted. And what is with the weather EVERYWHERE lately- too too hot! Survive the heat & enjoy the day!
Rachel says
I workout before I eat now (during the week), even when I’m super hungry I know I won’t want to later in the day haha
Emma says
You must like a lot of different tastes and textures at the same time! I’d probably have a bowl of yogurt with fruit on top (or vice versa) and a muffin on the side!
Lexi @ You, Me, & A World to See says
I haven’t been into running lately, but walking? Totally different story! Especially in the afternoons 🙂
Megan @ Megan's Munchies says
Looks like a perfect start to the day!
Courtney @ Brussel Sprouts and Beer says
I need to try the way you make iced coffee. I think mine has been too weak!
Dr. Mark says
Not many of my patients know about Greek yogurt but they’re hooked once they try it. It’s always an awesome choice when yogurt is called for, not to mention much healthier.
Sarah says
Mark-
I find it interesting you mention that greek yogurt would be a good choice- because when I linked to your blog and read your “simple rules for nutrition”, you said to not eat dairy….Do you mean to cut out all dairy?
Anna says
YUM! I used to always skip breakfast ’cause I would end up feeling hungrier later in the day (a good thing I now know). Now that I eat breakfast I can workout in the morning and get more done efficiently. Success 😀
Chelsea @ Chelsea's Lovelys says
That breakfast looks super good! Love the idea of breaking up a muffin into a parfait!
TinaD says
You should head out the Chiles for some peaches. Theirs are very good, and I’m sure as a local business, they’d appreciate the shout out on your blog :>)
KathEats says
I should, but I hear that they spray theirs 🙁
KathEats says
Although I should say that I do buy them from the market not always knowing the spray standards. I agree – local is best though!
Annette @FitnessPerks says
Mmmmm crumbled muffin + sunflower butter?! Count ME in!
Andrea @ The Skinny Chronicles says
Good morning! I did frozen organic toaster waffles with apple butter for breakfast. Not quite as tasty, but it did the trick in a pinch!
Alyssa (pb and oatmeal) says
Eating is always the first thing I do when I get up. What can I say? I love to eat 🙂
Jonathan Dueck says
Looks amazing! I start most days with a Greek Yogurt shake (1.5 cups), 2 cups of milk, 1 tbsp of olive oil, 1/4 cup of walnuts, and two cups of whatever fresh fruit I have on hand.
And that coffee looks tempting!
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
Your breakfast reminds me of fall. I love all of the fall-like colors 🙂
Averie @ Averie Cooks says
The whole coffee concentrate thing is still intriguing to me. It’ll be interesting to see if you think it’s more cost effective/easier as time passes and if you still think it’s the way to go. My super duper ridic strong coffee that I brew and chill (which seems to intensify in concentration/flavor in the fridge) is what I’ve been doing for years but am always wondering what if there’s something better.
KathEats says
I am absolutely loving the convenience of having it in the fridge. I’m still drinking it too strong though! Grounds are going by fast : )
Lorin says
I just realized that I was in SF at the Ferry Market Building Farmers Market and I saw the Frog Hollow Farm. I knew I recognized them, but I couldn’t think of the name. I got a nectarine from there, it was good!
Amanda @flecksofgreen says
I know that if I don’t get out to exercise after I wake up, it’s more likely that I’ll grab something to eat. Then I have to wait until it’s digested before I can go work out–it ends up being a rough cycle. So, I try to make working out the first thing on my daily agends 🙂
Angel7 says
Those peaches must have been really good to eat a dozen in a week.

Such a colourful breakfast!
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
I’ve been walking early, too. The only time I can with all the heat
Kristin at MommyPage says
Your yogurt with fruit and a muffin looks tasty! Also, your tea looks so refreshing. Does it have caffeine in it? Sometimes its hard to find non-caffeinated beverages while pregnant.
KathEats says
It’s oolong so it’s lighter
Kristin at MommyPage says
Thank you for letting me know! I will have to try it.
