We took the boys on a Be Still Getaway to Afton, VA to stay in a renovated county store. Here’s the recap!
Our Getaway to Afton, Virginia
We are so lucky to live in Charlottesville because there is so much to see and do in just a short drive. I have long said that just a few minutes outside of the city limits feels like you’ve driven hours into the country.
This past weekend we took the boys, plus our nephew, Nash, for an overnight at a renovated county store!
Be Still Getaways
My friend Jamie owns Be Still Getaways and hosted us for the night. Be Still Getaways was created in 2020 in Scottsville, VA on two farmstay properties, and quickly scaled into boutique short-term rentals and commercial vacation rentals. They now manage over 150 doors!

The Afton Clubhouse
We stayed at the Afton Clubhouse, which was the historic original Afton County Store! The property has been renovated into a modern three-bedroom vacation rental.
The Great Room + Kitchen
Taking note of all the black and white decor ; )
The primary suite
The boys’ rooms
Bathrooms
Loved the gel eye masks! Lots of hooks! And soaps!
Outdoor Area + Fire Pit
Jamie told me the house is getting accent wallpaper, a grand farmhouse dining table, and a HOT TUB next week! A hot tub would have been so nice on that deck.
The Farmhouse
Next door to the Club House is The Farmhouse, which has four bedrooms, and you could rent both for a wedding or a bachelorette weekend!
The Clubhouse Is Pet Friendly!
Gus got to come with us, and he was SO HAPPY!
Sardines + Happy Hour
After we settled in, the boys explored the yard, and we played a family game of Sardines! (It’s like hide and seek but better).
Thomas and I also cracked open a cider that Jamie left for us!
What To See And Do Nearby
There are a ton of wineries within 10 minutes of the Clubhouse: Veritas, Cardinal Point, Afton Mountain, Flying Fox, and more. We didn’t want to take the boys wine tasting, but this house would make such a great home base for that.
Or check breweries along Nelson 151, go skiing at nearby Wintergreen, or explore the Shenandoah National Park.

Dinner at Blue Mountain Brewery
Our main activity was dinner at Blue Mountain Brewery! It’s one of my favorite restaurants for their amazing “cutting board pizzas.”
The Fire Pit
We remembered to pack our marshmallows and roasting stick for the fire pit! It was great on a chilly evening.
Movie Night
We watched a documentary on Vancouver Island, and then after Birch went to sleep we watched Ace Ventura. What a hilarious movie that one is! I feel like Ace Ventura defined all the mannerisms of kids in the late 90s.

Interesting shower doors! Trying to figure out if they are repurposed from something.

I don’t think so – just cool panes.
