My busy long day is coming to an end. But a good one at that. I got most of my to-do list done, including a bonus of cleaning the kitchen floors after dinner.
This afternoon the LaraBar Blog fairy sent a delightful box of fun! Plus a t-shirt!!! I can’t wait to dig into these. As much as I like cereal, yogurt, fruit + PB for snacks, I need to start eating bars!! We have a ton in so many awesome flavors and they are real food!
Continuing the LaraBar theme, I decided to try a JamFranka for snack!! Lunch held me over really well and I just needed something really small. I got this guy along with a few other flavors in Megan’s giveaway!!
It was pretty good! I LOVED the size, and enjoyed the crispy parts. I do think these are better for kids because I just wanted the “grown-up taste” of a LaraBar! WHEN WILL LARABAR MAKE THEIR MINI BARS AVAILABLE FOR SALE!!!!!!
Dinner tonight was homemade pizza – solo! As I mentioned earlier, the husband worked until 8 (he just got home and went straight to bed!) so he left me some dough from the weekend to play with tonight.
I was pretty bad at making the dough thin out into a pizza. I worked it for 10-15 minutes and just couldn’t get it any bigger than pancake. So it was more like a muffin top sized pizza! I cooked some mushrooms and bell pepper in a skillet, pre-cooked the crust a bit, and topped it with some shredded cheese and blue cheese (still working on that huge block I got at BJ’s!) The pizza was delicious and the crust was VERY doughy and perfect. Who needs sauce!? It was too much of a pain to deal with so I just went without.
On the side I made a nice salad with romaine, more bell pepper + shroom, carrot, pom seeds and Annie’s dressing.
Delish!
I had just one tiny bite of pumpkin bark for dessert –
Off to hopefully take a bath and read! I should be studying, but meh to that!
Maggie says
Sounds like a very nice evening 🙂 I’m going to try pom seeds on something tonight! I have a pom that’s been sitting in my fruit bowl for over a week now and I have to use it up!
Have a great night 🙂
Marianne says
The pizza is cute – and I agree, who needs sauce? I’m not really a fan of all that tomato sauce on pizza anyways!
And jealous of all the LaraBar love that’s going around to all the blogs lately! Enjoy your bars 😀
VeggieGirl says
Hooray for lots of goodies!! 😀
Shelby says
I just bought a ton of LaraBars. I’ve only had one before but I’m looking forward to trying the rest. I’ve never heard of the Jam Frakas but they sound delicious as well.
Pumpkin Bark?? Did you make it or buy it? I want some!!!!
Lindsay says
I was just leaving you a comment to tell you about my 26’s today and saw you already caught it 🙂
Your pumpkin bark sounds delicious! Is this something your husband brought home from work? I have to keep my eyes peeled for something like this!
Enjoy your night.
HangryPants says
I lurve homemade pizza!
Soon you won’t need to buy clothes or food with all these goodies in the mail! haha.
Kath says
Pumpkin bark was a gift from Madison of Follow My Weigh while in Chicago. She got it from Whole Foods.

Kath,
was the dough cold when you were trying to stretch it out? I know you probably already know that it should be at room temp in order to get it to stretch out into a nice circle!
Anyways, despite the lumpiness, your pizza looks wonderful! Besides…pizza dough is pizza dough, right? Who cares if it’s lumpy, it’s delicious anyways!
Great dinner as usual…
Megan says
Yeah for a larabar filled day! What fun! Dinner looks great!
Betsy in Pittsburgh says
I got the EXACT same Larabar package today! I had never tried them before so it was exciting 🙂
Oh She Glows says
I am sad to say I have never had a Larabar!!!
Aggie says
I have recently started eating Larabars and LOVE them! Lucky you!
Your pizza looks delish! Doesn’t matter how it looks, pizza is pizza…and it is my all time favorite food! Yours looks very rustic!
Halie says
I’m glad to hear your JamFraka was good, I’ve only heard bad reviews so far.
I love sauceless pizza! But sauce once in a while is good since my pizza is always vegan.
Perfectly portioned pumpkin bark!
Michelle says
Yum, pumpkin bark!
zestycook says
Kath, your goodies look amazing… Larabars are really nice to you 🙂 You gotta love that!
Biz319 says
Was you pizza dough room temperature? If not, it won’t roll out flat because the gluten is too tight.
And, um, I once tried to “defrost” dough from the fridge – didn’t work – it cooked it!
Betsy says
i tried the chocolate chip jamfrakas too and i wasn’t sure what i thought. i didn’t like it at all at first but it got better. i think i need to try a different flavor.
Jenny says
I’m loving all of your bar and tshirts! Fun fun!
And YES Larabar, give us the MINIS!
Enjoy your night!
melissa says
I have sent at least 5 emails requesting the minibars be available! Lara I love you even though you sold out to General Mills, but please help the portion control cause and sell your adorable minis to your loyal fans!
Casey says
Hi from NY Kath! I have been reading your blog for about a year now and I finally am leaving a post! I thank you for having your site and posting such great information! I read your post this morning about the almond butter and I went straight to their site and bought some! Saved over $10 in shipping. Thanks! Also- it didn’t say anything about a shirt on the site, think I’ll get one?
Thanks again! Have a great night!
coco says
Agree with you about jamflakes…. the true larabar is much much better!
Karissa says
Ohhh I’m sooo jealous! That pizza looks really good!
Amber says
Ok I officially have to say you are making this $126 challenge hard LOL. I had to cut larabars out of my grocery list to make in this challenge.
You salad looks yummY!
claire says
So, I have a question about pom seeds. Do you eat the whole thing or spit out the central portion. I’ve tried both ways and eating the whole thing is just a little difficult. Maybe something you have to get used to?
Amanda in Pittsburgh says
Mmmmmmmmmm pumpkin bark!! :o)
Amanda in Pittsburgh says
PS – your hair is ALWAYS gorgeous!!
Oh She Glows says
^I agree, Kath’s hair always looks so healthy. It reminds me I need a trim badly!
kari says
OH man I LOVE the larabars but I can’t find them at any stores around here yet. I asked the lady at the health store I go to if she could PLEASE order some in. I’m thinking I’m gonna have to order my own. They are SO yummy!
seelee live (for the love of peanut butter) says
Hi Kath!
I noticed you have been getting alot of “freebies” in the mail recently. . I am guessing you will not be adding these costs to your Thanksgiving challenge? What is the plan?
jess says
You’re not going to need to buy shirts for Months! Score!!
Madison says
what a cute pizza 🙂
kath did you notice that there was no pumpkin in the ingredient list of the pumpkin bark? i thought that was kind of weird.
jenner says
ooh is that a variety pack? i hope they sent you a banana bread one. i thought that flavor would be your idea of perfection, so i was surprised not to have seen it on your list of fave flavors… but then i realized they don’t sell all the flavors everywhere.
Fancy says
Wait—I have never heard of Larabar minis! I’m assuming they’re not for sale, but have people tried them? What a fantastic idea!
Jenner—Banana Bread is my favorite flavor, too:)
Saima says
that pizza lookss delish!!*droooollll*
bobbi says
OOOO I hope the LARABAR fairy comes to visit me:) I loved dinner your so creative!!!! Also love the shirt!
rachelfresh says
I just tried the Chocolate Chip Jamfrakas bar yesterday. I LOVED it. Probably because it reminds me of a slightly sweeter (or just more chocolately?) version of the Cashew Cookie Larabar. I agree the size is great!
What flavors did you get in that wonderful looking box?
Meg says
Hey Kath, I am trying to get healthy…I love your oatmeal recipes….on average how many calories would it be per bowl?
Kelley says
You even cleaned the kitchen floors? Seriously, do you ever just come home and just want to channel surf? lol You’re so good at keeping up with housework, even with your busy schedule! I feel lazy. 🙂
PS. Meg, Kath said that its around 610 per bowl.
Kinder says
What is pumpkin bark? Pumpkin flavored chocolate? I must know!
M says
Seelee live, I asked a similar question a few days ago, and Kath said that because the purpose of the challenge is simply to save money and not make any sort of social commentary, anything free doesn’t count towards the $126. It’s just about trying to be cost-effective and really, what’s more cost-effective than free samples from your favorite companies?
And it would be a huge pain to try to figure out how much anything not purchased would cost, like meals at friends’ houses and what have you.
Meg, I think Kath has said her oatmeal creations are 400ish. I believe the 610 number refers to Quaker’s suggestion of breakfast cals.
MizFit says
waves at your photo.
echoes the what’s pumpkin bark notion…off to search.
sirenjess says
Why do you want Larabar to make minis?
Kath says
Abby ,
Yes my dough was too cold. I tried to warm it up with my hands on the stove-top but no go.
Casey ,
Thanks for your comment!! I don’t know if T-shirts come in every package, but my guess is no. Maybe they are available in the BB store?
claire ,
I have a video on cutting a pom open. Go to the right sidebar, scroll down to categories, then videos, and it should be in that list.
Amanda in Pittsburgh + Oh She Glows,
You guys are too kind 😳
seelee live,
What M said!
Madison ,
I didn’t notice -but weird!! Maybe just pumpkin pie spice and orange.
jenner ,
I’m actually not a huge fan of banana products, but I have yet to try the LaraBar. Hope it exceeds expectations!
Meg ,
M is right about 400-450ish. The 610 was just a tidbit from a study Dave Grotto, RD shared with us at Quaker.
Kelley ,
I channel surfed AFTER I cleaned the floors
Kinder ,
Yup!
M,
Thanks for your help!
sirenjess,
For the days when you just want half – to crumble on oats, or you’re not that hungry or you just want one of each of two flavors!

I agree on the minis. I hope they make them. Because it is a nice and healthy alternative to dessert. I just had a baby and am trying to shed 15 punds. So yes I hope they make them. Luna bars make the minis and they are nice but the ingredients are too complicated. Thanks!
thepinkpeppercorn says
Pumpkin bark!? So cool! I have never heard of it before, but I can only imagine it is super yummy…mmmm.
leigh of Tales from Bloggeritaville says
yum!!!

The pumpkin bark they sell at Whole Foods is made by Bissingers — http://www.bissingers.com/category/detail/2765.html
Tracy says
I agree on the desire for mini sized Larabars!! Sometimes a whole larabar is just more than I need or I’d like to pair my snack with some yogurt or cottage cheese, so don’t want a whole larabar. I also received the JamFrakas bars from Megan’s giveaway. I’ve tried the strawberry and loved it! It really tasted like real strawberries! I thought the size and the addition of crispies was a nice change of pace from the regular larabars and I’m excited to try the rest of them.
Cat says
Yum, the pizza looks great!! I usually am not to impressed with sauces on store bought – restaurant pizzas, but when I’m making my own I love to make some sauce on the side for dipping my slices into like a calzone. 🙂
Elina (Healthy and Sane) says
I can never get the dough rolled either… that’s like the only thing my husband is in charge of 😀
I agree that Larabar needs to start selling their promo-sized bars!!
Anna says
About the mini larabars…
I also am obsessed with laras and especially love the mini sizes. The minis are actually how I got hooked on them! My work (I work in a yoga/athletic clothing store) would get sent these GIANT boxes of all different mini lara flavors, and we would put them out in a big bowl for guests to take. Of course, a bunch also found their way into my bag (and mouth)… I actually emailed the company last year asking if they would ever sell them to the general public, but they said they only make them for promotional purposes. On that note, I went to the Green Festival in Washington DC last weekend, and larabar had a booth where they were giving away minis. I scored about 10, including the mysterious coconut flavor! It was pretty intense.
sirenjess says
Very true. The minis are a good idea.
