Here we are with part II of our recent trip to Bald Head Island! You never know how much you miss the sun till it’s hidden for half a week. We were all SO glad when the skies cleared up – and there was even a rainbow to mark the day! We put on all the sunscreen and stayed out on the beach all day.
Bald Head Island: Sun Edition
Mufasa and Scar sing about the circle of life
One great thing about Bald Head Island’s beaches is that the beach along South Beach is only part Atlantic. It’s the southern side of the island, so the waves are smaller than along East Beach (which is obviously on the Eastern shore). South Beach also has lots of tidepools so small kids love to “alligator” through them!
Natural Slide!
Cousin bonding!
It was so cute to see these two play!
This is the watermelon bathing suit I bought for Emerson!
Always bring a blow up pool. And a Beach BUB!
Loved this hat!!
And my Kohv sunnies!

You know what time it is!! Time for the Low Country Boil. I’m going to update the recipe page soon because it’s long overdue.

You’d think this guy would have slept soundly from all the playing he did, but I think he was overtired (or getting his fourth molar) because the last 2 nights he didn’t sleep well at all.

Did you stay in your parents’ house or did you rent a place?
Looks like a great trip despite the weather the first few days!
Kath Younger says
They rent their house all summer, so we rent a beach front house so we don’t have to golf cart the kids back and forth.

Nice article. We used to live there and miss it.However, the story and pics about the ” sand forts ” should be deleted because several children as well as adults are killed every year from holes like the ones shown in your blog. Sand can collapse in a
split second.
Kath Younger says
We didn’t dig any big holes – Birch is just sliding down the cliff. Also the “cave” in the cliff was filled back in.

Looks like you had a BLAST! Low country boils are the best. My hubby isnt a fan of seafood though 🙁
Two questions- I can never make good scrambled eggs and yours always look so good! Whats your secret? Also where do you get Birch’s sleep sacks?
Kath Younger says
For the eggs the trick is a spatula (spoonula is ideal!) and gently push them around. Never “scramble” with a fork! Here’s a post I wrote a while ago.
And we love Kyte baby sleep sacks! They are so soft and warm. And the one B is wearing in the pic is a wool one we have too, but her prefers the Kyte (I think).

Hi Kath-loved your BHI posts! What are your fav eats on the island and best date night destination? Thanks, Kara
Kath Younger says
Hi Kara! Things are a little different over there right now, but in normal times, we’ve loved either of the clubs for a date night if you have access to them with a temporary membership. You can also do apps on the Shoals Club deck which has a beautiful view. At the Harbor Delphina’s is great for a casual family dinner, and Jules’ (formerly Mojos, formerly Ebb and Flos!) is the best nicer restaurant over there. Everything is doing carry out right now too – we got takeout from Lulu’s BBQ and it was great.
