I’m so excited to get over to the bakery today!!
Janet told me to take advantage of her help and catch on a little sleep today. Sleeping in still meant getting up at sunrise, but I got to enjoy some cereal with mom and dad and El Tigre! My parents let Tig IN THE HOUSE and are pretending he is ours! He has an owner who lives across the street!!
I almost had oatmeal this morning, but we have lots of milk in da house so I decided on cereal instead.
Organic Valley sent me a sample of their new omega-3 milk. It’s got fish oil in it for an extra dose of those important omega-3s. Yay sardines and anchovies! I know that sounds gross, but there was not the slightest detection of fish in it (and I have a very sensitive palate!) I love that it’s real food.
In my bowl:
- Puffed quinoa
- Cville Cluster granola
- Buckwheat groats
- Sunflower butter
- Chia seeds
See ya!!!

Kath, I just wanted to say how happy it makes me that you are enjoying the bakery so much. I know that might sound odd, but it’s refreshing to hear someone say they are excited to get to work, especially this early on a Saturday! I know how hard you and Matt have worked to get this off the ground, and I am genuinely excited and happy for both of you. Enjoy day 2!
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
I agree Hillary! Not many people are passionate about things that they do, especially on a weekend. 😀 have a great day Kath!
E says
I agree! I hope to be that passionate about what I do some day & am that excited about starting my work day 🙂
judy says
Congratulations on what sounds like a fabulous first day in your new business. Enjoy your work and your customers.
Khushboo says
Even if there was a hint of fishiness, that’s nothing a lil sunflower butter can’t fix 😉
Jess says
That bowl is beautiful! Enjoy your second day at the bakery!
Liv @ The Salty n' Sweet says
Better waking up at dawn than waking up as early as you did yesterday! The puffed quinoa looks so much fun to eat 🙂
I’m sure today will be just as successful as yesterday!
Holly (Faith, Food, Fitness) says
Congrats on a great first day at the bakery! 🙂 That cereal looks great, although I’ve never been able to put nut/seed butter on cereal–wet nut butter grosses me out and I don’t know why!
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
I thought El Tigre was a stray — but either way I love that your parents made him feel so welcome in your home!
Have a great day at the bakery!
MOM says
He lives across the street. He sure wants to come into the KERF household though and check things out. He’s a darling cat and has the loudest purr I have ever heard.
Katherina @ Zephyr Runs says
I just started noticing that almost everything that says “Omega 3!” on their description has fish in it! Finding out it was in milk freaked me out. I guess you’re right in that it’s better that it’s coming from actual food. Enjoy your bakery day!
Lucy says
Yes, I thought the same thing, milk with fish oil?! Not that they aren’t both “real” foods, but mixed together, not so much!
Glad to hear the bakery is off to such a great start!
M says
Kinda sucks for the poor unsuspecting vegetarian! (I’m vegan, so I stick to almond milk, but I remember back when I was veg hearing rumors that Garelick Farms added fish oil to their milk. I was so horrified.)
KathEats says
Yeah, they might want to put that on the front label (if it’s not already)
kaila @ healthy helper! says
I love that bowl! Looks so pretty!
Jil @ Big City, Lil Kitchen says
Yum! and that’s too funny about the cat! haha Have great day two!!
Hilary says
I had the morning to sleep in too…and I also didn’t! 🙁 Does puffed quinoa taste like puffed wheat/rice? I find that stuff kinda tasteless unless you add to it.
KathEats says
It is kind of bland, but I like that you get a giant bowl and it’s fun to eat
Molly @ RDexposed says
2% milk….you’re remindimg me of my pts!
Baking 'n' Books says
Do the owners mind you letting him in your house?! I guess not if he’s out wandering. Do you drink other types of milk as well (i.e almond, etc.?). Haven’t had 2% milk in a while but love 2% cottage cheese.
Marina says
Enjoy your second day in the bakery! I am looking forward to hear what’s been going on today 🙂
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
Hope Matt doesn’t sneeze when he gets home! Have a good second day!
polly says
Kath,
D and I keep watching as the bread biz takes off! We are so thrilled for you. You might think we are dorks, but we both got a little choked up when we saw your friends (the ones who Matt started with) arrive at 7am on opening day. How awesome!!
We are just praying it goes smoothly and you guys can keep your energy up and just take it one day at a time. I honestly cannot think of a more PERFECT couple to do this amazing job! Big hugs all the way from Indiana, girl!! 🙂
Also, how cool your mom and dad are there. and YAY for Karen finishing her treatments!
AND… almost forgot! I am back to blogging again if ya wanna pop over. 😉 Ab is doing well. This diabetes stuff is hard, but it’s been so good too. We are learning a ton. Makes me want to go back to school to become a dietician someday and help other kids with this disease!! Love ya!
Pols
KathEats says
Hey Pols!! Glad Ab is doing well – thanks for the well wishes!

Well I hope your neighbours don’t mind that your parents adopted their cat!
Katie says
Love the cereal combo! looks good!
Happy Saturday!!
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
There used to be a cat that prowled around my neighborhood. I would let him in but I think my bird would mind 🙂
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
I love when work is so exciting that you bounce out of bed. Have a great day!!
Emily J says
Hi Kath!
Now, don’t think I’m too strange, but I had a dream with you in it last night!
I dreamt that I had to pick up some bread for dinner. I had planned to go to this one bakery, but then I remembered, “There’s a new Great Harvest in town! We’re going there!” Sadly, we don’t really have a Great Harvest that close by, but the dream cracked me up nonetheless!
Congratulations on the bakery! Keep having fun!
Best,
Emily
KathEats says
Haha – love it!
Liz says
Hi Kath! I’ve recently started reading your blog and you are so inspiring!
Although I am only a teenager, you make me so excited to grow up and start new adventures 🙂
I hope to own a bakery when I’m older, and I’m so happy for you that you are pursuing your dream.
-Liz
KathEats says
Welcome!!
Kate says
Wow, I’ve never seen so much enthusiasm and passion for a job! It must be great to do something you love 🙂
I love cats but my parents? not so much. They even told me I was allergic so we couldn’t get one. Plus I don’t think they’d get along too well with the five dogs we have now…
Diana @ frontyardfoodie says
We have milk and cereal but the cereal is DISGUSTING! It’s gluten free but instead of being yummy it’s just totally sugary. Makes my stomach iffy. I need some serious puffed quinoa.
Kelsey @ Clean Teen Kelsey says
I’m totally out of almond milk, so I can’t have any sort of cereal. It’s killing me!
Ellie says
I love this bowl! It’s SO pretty. Glad you got some time off
Gina (Yogattude) says
I love these cereal combos, it’s such a great idea and way more fun and healthy than a box of sugary cereal! My office had a cereal potluck yesterday and there were about 30 boxes of the sugariest cereal. Luckily, I decided on a SIAB before I left home!
SquatLikeALady says
It’s so great that you are enjoying the bakery so much! 🙂 You seem really truly happy and fulfilled.
lynn @ the actor's diet says
interesting milk! i guess my husband won’t drink it b/c he’s vegetarian!
KathEats says
That thought did cross my mind
Coral says
i love that you put a form of nutbutter in your cereal! i’ve tried that combo before and it is amazing!
Lisa @ Healthful Sense says
Love quinoa! Just made a coconut quinoa mango smoothie. It was super filling!
Kiran @ KiranTarun.com says
I’m curious and anxious to try puffed quinoa and buckwheat! Soon 😉 have a great day baking!
Casey says
That is the cutest bowl I have ever seen!!!! And I’ve been very curious to try quinoa, it’s seems to be quite popular-what does it taste like?
KathEats says
It’s kind of burnt/malted tasting.
Michelle says
Kath, I love your blog, read it every day, but I gotta say, there is no way that milk with added fish oil is real food. Superficially, I guess it sounds like real food, fish oil! and milk! but the process by which the fish oil is added to the milk to ensure there is no taste or texture change can hardly be natural and cancels out the real-ness of both foods.
I remember you saying you were going to try to get omega-3s not through supplements but by eating the real sources of omega-3, which is great, but to me, fish oil added to milk is the same as eating a supplement, you’re just taking it through milk instead of a capsule.
KathEats says
I imagined the two just shaken together – not really infused chemically. Guess that would need some more research
Stephanie @ StephSnacks says
Omega 3 Milk! I gotta try that 🙂
J3nn(Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
That milk sounds great, but just my luck I am trying to cut out cow juice.
Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
Day 2.. wahoo!! Since it is a Saturday.. I’m sure you’ll be buzzin aroudn alll day! 🙂
Michelle (The Runner's Plate) says
I’ve never thought about putting a nut/seed butter in my cold cereal before. I might have to try that!
Maria says
There is nothing “real” about milk with added fish oil. Every food nowadays seems to be enhanced with something to make it “healthier”. It’s quite odd.
Dee says
That puffed quinoa looks really interesting! I’ll have to try it one time!
ps. Have fun at the bakery today! I’m holding off on ordering GH online so I can have it for the first time when we visit your store! Lol. Poor husband. He’s got no choice but to wait with me. Especially since I hyped up GH bread so much. 😉
Kaitlyn @ 7 Plates says
Good breakfast and such pretty colors. Have fun at the bakery!
Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn says
Oh my god. All of my favorite things in one bowl. Slash PUFFED QUINOA?! Where on earth did you find/can I find some of that stuff?
Susie says
Kath, I’ve been dying to try Great Harvest bread after seeing how delicious you make it look. Unfortunately, there isn’t a GH near my hometown, and although there is one in the same city as my school, it’s still a bit too far for me to visit sans car. I was so excited to see a Great Harvest table at the farmer’s market this morning–and I must say that their bread is every bit as good as you make it look and sound! Hope you enjoy your second day of work…I’ll certainly be enjoying my High 5 fiber bread!!
KathEats says
🙂
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
mmmmm what a great bowl of b-fast. I love the bowl too, it has a pretty design 🙂
Kim says
Where did you get that gorgeous bowl?
I am sending my in-laws in to see you guys!
Best of luck to you and next time we come visit we will come say hi!
KathEats says
Anthro!
Sunya says
I will have to try the OV Omega-3 milk. I use their regular 2% milk in my oatmeal every weekday morning and I love it. Their cottage cheese is my favorite as well.
Happy Day 2!!! Those pumpkin muffins look great!!! So love pumpkin!!
Hannah says
Oooh, is that a new bowl? PRETTY!
Angel7 says
I have never heard of Omega-3 in milk, but that is a great way to get it 🙂
