The theme of this week is definitely warmth! We are having our coldest day so far, and it is so cold that my sensitive teeth hurt when I smile! Mazen and I had hot chocolate by the fire. Marshmallows and all! I made it in my Nespresso milk frother, which turns out perfectly warm and mixed the hot chocolate in about 30 seconds. (You can use the non-froth spinner to mix without froth.)
Almond butter, banana, and honey toast FTW!
I live in the sauna this time of year. I call it my warm-up before my warm-up! It just feels so darn good to walk into 90 degrees when you are chilled to the bone. Try it!
Sarah and I went to Rocksalt for my birthday lunch today! Yes, my birthday is in October, but we have a tradition of giving each other lunches for our birthdays and then scheduling them two months later. So Happy Bday to me! We each had fresh fish and a simple salad on the side. I love me some cornmeal catfish!
Something else hot – the inside of our Big Green Egg! Thomas tried out a pizza last night (at 600 degrees) and it was perfect! The crust was very crispy (no floppy pizza here), and the flavor was great.
On Sunday he made ribs and wings for some of our friends while we watched football. We had those with grits and collards on Monday night. I made my favorite form of collard greens – with blue cheese, bacon, and dates. Speaking of football, I finished at second place of twelve in my fantasy league this year! Now it’s time for the playoffs!
Guess who finally got to visit Santa?! After sharing some of his wish list, I was able to get Santa to confirm that we ARE FRIENDS. Mazen still doesn’t believe me. Ha.

The struggle to stay warm is real :)! The extra calories in “winter” banana and PB sandwiches sure helps. I almost never eat PB in the summer, but in the winter, bring it on.
I love sauna – I grew up using it. Does your gym allow clothes and shoes in the sauna?! I have never seen anyone in anything other than a towel and bathing suit and flip flops in the sauna at my gym. In the non-gym setting, like someone’s home or in a spa, people usually just have a towel and it is maintained as a super clean place. I personally would be concerned if someone showed up in workout clothes… just a thought.

People wear clothes in mine all the time! I think it’s just a comfort thing – you don’t really want get super sweaty wearing clothes which is why I only stay in 5 minutes or so. Also, I go in before my workout, so my clothes are clean!

How did I miss this whole post yesterday? I only saw the other Hot in Herre post. Anyway–half the people in my gym’s sauna are clothed, the other half are some form of naked. No one seems offended by either choice.
KathEats says
I snuck it in! Yeah, I think far more people would be offended by someone totally naked than totally clothed, but neither one bothers me!

Is it really cold there or are you not use to it? We’re running 20s and mid 30s, cold to me is the big O!
KathEats says
The wind chill is 28* – that feels pretty cold to me, but it’s also our first cold day of the year, so I’m not used to it or dressing in all the layers I probably need. Procrastinating!

I feel like I’m the only one who still hasn’t visited Santa Claus… did I miss out on something? Haha!

Hot chocolate by the fire on a cold day is one of the best things in life. Love the post!

Frother is cool … I recall In a post a while ago you had a frother that was a little stick that you put in the drink. Do recall that device? WHAt was it and does it work well? Thx!
KathEats says
That was one I bought at IKEA many years back. It worked ok – lightly frothed – but this one is world’s better.

My uncle’s cabin was hit by lightening and burned down several years ago, and what was the only things left??? The big green egg of course! That thing is indestructible!

Oh wow – what a story.

I live in on the Canadian Prairies, so -50 is a typical winter temperature 🙁 Haha, it’s brutal. You never get used to it.
Although, I suppose I must be a little bit used to it, as at this time of year, if we have (-2 C or 28 F) we are thinking it’s balmy, haha, and people would be in shorts.
