And now for your entertainment news…
I’ve been meaning to share some of my favorite podcasts of late, and I have a few that I’ve been hooked on. I listen to them when I’m running or at the gym on the cardio machines, folding laundry, getting dressed in the morning or cooking meals. Anytime you’d listen to music!
“RHAP” is my current obsession since Survivor Season 30 just ended. Rob interviewed each of the players as they were voted off, and he has hours and hours of Survivor entertainment. I can’t believe it took me so long to realize there were podcasts about Survivor! The content is great, and Rob frequently interviews Survivor old timer “celebrities,” so if you’ve ever been into the show, you’ll love this. RHAP actually won a major podcast award this year too – beating out Serial!
Trish was a classmate of mine at Davidson and is the talent behind this incredibly inspiring podcast about being your best self. She covers topics like self esteem, healthy habits, fitness, work-a-holics, kindness and more. I find her podcasts to be so uplifting! I also just saw her and her sweet baby at the reunion. AND – she just published a podcast interview with yours truly! Listen here!
If you listened to Serial, then you’ll want to continue with Undisclosed. It’s written by three legal gurus, including Adnan’s family friend Rabia, and Colin and Susan who both made big names for themselves in the podcast community during Serial. I’ll admit that I haven’t listened beyond the second episode because I am so sucked into Survivor Second Chances interviews right now, but I am really curious to hear what details about the case they share.
Local to Charlottesville, Edacious is our latest foodie podcast! Jenee Libby, who also writes the blog The Diner of Cville, interviews those in the Cville food scene. I have loved getting to know chefs and personalities through the podcast and their thoughts on so many different topics. Matt is listening too, and we’ve had fun discussing the podcast together.
Putting this in here for Matt, who is OBSESSED and has listened to every single episode!! Nerd alert : )
So I gotta ask – what are your favorites!?

My husband is OBSESSED with beer and home brewing and loves The Brewing Network.

Podcasts have been around so long, but I’m just now appreciating them! They’re great company for a long run! I loved Serial, so I also recently enjoyed “Breakdown” by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution about a local crime. Not as high-tech as Serial, but still entertaining. And the Jillian Michaels Show will always be a fave.
Tiffany says
Trish’s podcast sounds right up my alley so I just subscribed on itunes to check it out. I am obsessed with podcasts! My faves: the Lively Show, One Part podcast, Creating Your Own Path, Good Life Project, The School of Greatness, The Joy the Baker podcast, The One You Feed. I also loved After the Jump (with Grace Bonney), but it’s over now. The archives are still great!
Jana says
I love Undisclosed, but I have to correct you: Rabia is NOT Adnan’s aunt. She’s a friend of the family.

Oh sorry! Not sure why I thought aunt.

I love love LOVE the TED Radio Hour on NPR. I listen to them when doing dishes, cleaning, working out and getting ready in the mornings. The topics are fascinating and they’re usually 3-4 TED talks centered around the same topic and adapted for radio. “What We Fear” and “Champions” are my favorites. All free on the free NPR app! I loved Undisclosed when I first started listening to it… but now I feel like it’s often fluffy? Like it’s taking 10 minutes to talk about something that could be summed up in 15 seconds.

A lot of the podcasts I listen to were mentioned by other commenters (America’s Test Kitchen, Bon Appétit, The One You Feed, Stuff Mom Never Told You), but a few new and great ones I’ve been hooked on are Nom Nom Paleo Podcast and Happier with Gretchen Rubin. I also sometimes (as a guilty pleasure!) listen to Here to Make Friends which is about the Bachelorette/Bachelor!

I can’t believe no one has listed my two favorites! Bulletproof radio is done by Dave Asprey, inventor of the bulletproof coffee, and he’s easily one of the smartest humans I’ve ever heard speak. I also LOVE the Tim Ferriss Show, author of the 4 Hour Work Week, he interviews highly successful people and tries to investigate how they tick. I also love the Ted Talk podcast, Smart Passive Income, and Bon Appetit. I can’t wait to listen to the ones you recommended. I’m Podcast OBSESSED lately thanks to you… the Pregtastic podcast is where it all began 🙂
Jenée says
I am beyond thrilled to see my podcast on this list! Thank you Kath! I should note while I focus on regional food experts, the topics we cover are universal….anyone with an edacious nature (i.e., passionate, ravenous) would find something of interest….I hope LOL! Thank you again, over the moon at the inclusion, and cannot wait to interview you sometime!
Kimberly says
A lot of good ones were already mentioned, but Science Vs, This American Life, Science Friday (Sci Fri), Stuff You Should Know, and Freakanomics are all good.
