I’m awake. This time on my own will.
Last night I had another round of insomnia. I was awake from 3-something to nearly 6am. When Matt’s alarm went off I finally went back to sleep for an hour and a half. I was wide awake and went through the list of things that could be keeping me up: temperature, going to the bathroom, thirst, and finally ate a snack (cereal + milk) because my stomach was growling! Maybe that was it because it was my last defense, although I still stayed up reading blogs for another 30 minutes afterwards. Really hoping this phase doesn’t last!
Breakfast was a Strawberry Banana Smoothie made with half a banana, a cup of milk, 5 strawberries, 5 ice cubes. There were more sunken strawberries and a topping of honey bunches and peanut butter.
Awake tea I brought back from our Towson hotel
Just finished accepting an awesome delivery!! More details later, but I have lots of work to do! [And my favorite Pump class to miss 🙁 ]
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
I had some insomnia last night/early this morning as well.. NO fun.
Cat @ Breakfast to Bed says
There is something particularly cruel about pregnancy related insomnia. It’s almost like G-d’s cruel preparation for your new life as a mom. I call shenanigans! LET US SLEEP!
Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
I had some insomnia last night as well.. though not due to a pregnancy! It was tough getting up this morning.. with the time change and all.. so I am crossing my fingers for a better night sleep night! Hope you get one as well!
The Mrs @ Success Along the Weigh says
Sorry to hear you’re having trouble sleeping, it can be the worst.
Stephanie @ Legally Blinde says
Ooh, I love Tazo tea! Not sure if I’ve tried the Awake one, but Calm and Zen are amazing. I hope your insomnia goes away; lying in bed and not being able to sleep is one of the most frustrating things, and a vicious cycle 🙁
Laura says
My sleeplessness came from the rowdy guys upstairs glad to be back from spring break. Oh college. Good thing I’m sipping Tazo Awake too! 🙂
Kinley @ Better Off Barefoot says
I just went through a stage of waking up EVERY night between 2-3am STARVING because of increased training. I finally had to start thinking about a bedtime snack if I was even just a little tiny bit hungry when I went to bed because the insomnia was driving me nuts! This has actually worked really well (knockonwood). Hope yours does not last very long!
Kerry @ Totes My Oats says
I hope your sleeping pattern returns to normal! I slept a little funky last night, too!
Megan @ Megan's Munchies says
I had the same problem! Insomnia…a little hunger and a little time change were the culprits in my situation!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
I’m excited to hear about whatever was delivered! As for insomnia, I can feel your pain – not because I know what pregnancy is like, but lately my mind has been so active during the night that I’ve woken up a few times and can’t get back to sleep because I keep thinking! Sometimes I find putting on instrumental or calm music helps (hello, John Mayer!). I know someone who has been trying a homeopathic remedy for insomnia – basically just a small sugar pill that you dissolve under your tongue shortly before bed. I’m assuming that it helps to trigger melatonin, but am not 100% sure. Just thought I’d mention it in case you really can’t stand the lack of sleep any more!
Angel7 says
Do you think that the insomnia is from the after effects of the Unisom? Just wondering. If so, I am sure that it will wear off.

It could be…I didn’t take it yesterday. But I’ve heard insomnia is also a common symptom
Paige @ Healthy Hits the Spot says
Insomnia is the worst! I hope it gets better! I always have to wake up and stretch when that happens… or maybe your hubby can massage you back to bed…
Katy @ A Shot of Life says
Sorry to hear that you couldn’t sleep! Usually something in my tummy helps to put me back to sleep. That breakfast smoothie looks delicious! Perfect for the warmer weather! 🙂
katie @KatieDid says
hope the lack of sleep doesn’t catch up with you too much today! Can’t wait to hear about this delivery.
Blessing {Working Mom Journal} says
Insomnia and pregnancy? I hope it does not last long. I was sleeping way too much with my daughter.
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
That’s miserable when you just can’t sleep. Maybe the baby doesn’t like springing forward? I was so paranoid I was going to oversleep that I didn’t sleep well for the last 3-4 hours of the night.
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
I couldn’t sleep at all last night either and I don’t have pregnancy to blame for it. It was miserable just laying there. Hopefully there will be a good night’s sleep to look forward to tonight…I hope!
Averie @ Averie Cooks says
Pregnancy-induced insomnia seems to be nature’s little mechanism for preparing you for all those sleepless nights with a newborn, I swear! It happens to most everyone but hopefully you get some zzz’s soon!
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
I hate not being able to sleep. It’s the worst feeling. I often toss and turn throughout the night. It’s a pain.
I love that table. It’s so pretty 🙂
Hope Helmuth says
I am so happy I found your blog. I enjoy each update you post.
Your blog is so cheery and welcoming.
I found you by googling ‘healthy blogs’, and was delighted to see you live in Virginia too!
I have a cooking blog and you inspire me to cook healthier.
Hope you are feeling better soon.

Welcome Hope!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
Ahhhh I am so jealous of your cereal! Haha I have been craving cereal like a madwoman recently but can’t have the kinds I want because of my gluten intolerance! Looks delicious though, and I hope you start getting some better sleep!
TinaD says
I had insomnia due to hunger during my second trimester (well, not really insomnia, as I’d go back to sleep after eating something), and restless leg syndrome (and probably restless baby poking at my insides) during the third trimester.
j3nn says
Insomnia isn’t fun! Hopefully it’s a one time occurrence!! I like your strawberry banana smoothie. Looks like summer in a bowl. 🙂
Sarah says
I’ve heard that the blue-ish back light from tvs, computers and phones can mess with the sleep signals in your brain. “They” recommend reading a book if you’re up in the middle of the night instead. Maybe try that next time? Although I hope there isn’t a next time!
Lexi @ Cura Personalis Foodie says
So funny that you posted about that tea right now! I just finished brewing a cup of Awake 🙂
Anna @ On Anna's Plate says
Ugh– insomnia is the worst. I’ve had it really badly over the past few weeks, now that the end of my pregnancy is really here. I slept pretty well through the first eight months, but man, this last one is a killer!!
KhushbOo says
Hope this phase is temporary- insomnia is no fun!
donna says
The insomnia is hormone related!
Hilliary @Happily Ever Healthy says
Insomnia is never fun! I hope you get a little nap in today! Awake tea is one of my favorite teas!
Andrea @ The Skinny Chronicles says
Insomnia can be so brutal. Especially when combined with Daylight Savings. I hope you get to squeeze in a nap today. In the meantime, Happy Tea Sipping!
Laura @ She Eats Well says
I love that Awake tea, it’s so good! And I love Honey Bunches…even alone they are so addicting.
Ellie@Fit for the Soul says
ahhhh I will pray that tonight you get to sleep like a baby, with baby kerf! 🙂
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
Tazo Tea is so good!
Maria@ Sinfully Nutritious says
Oh, I hope your sleep gets better. I used Bach’s Rescue Sleep if I have trouble, it is made from flowers and is even kid safe! I also turn meditative music on my ipod to lull me back. Pregnancy can bring on crazy patterns. Just ride the wave, and it will be over soon.
jojo says
I would wake up for midnight snack during and after (because breastfeeding and I was hungry ALL the time..).
I just had some healthy snack by the bed so I wouldn’t have to get up lol
I hope you get good sleep tonight!
Lara Gastinger says
MIssed you at pump class! It was a good one, not too crowded. Oww, shoulders and legs.
Re nighttime sleep, that’s what naps are for. Little bits of sleep whenever and wherever you can find it! Enjoy this amazing sunny day!

I haven’t been in FOREVER!!! Next week for sure!

I randomly could not sleep last night either! I had a huge cup of coffee followed by the Awake tea. 🙂
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
I had a bad night’s sleep too (had to pee too much). I”m not pregnant, but it’s still NOT fun. Hope you have a good day, nonetheless!
Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning says
Man, insomnia is the worst! Maybe it’s the time change? If affects me in weird ways. Hope you get better sleep tonight!
Linda says
I love your mosaic table! Did you make it yourself?
KathEats says
I didn’t – a friend bought it for my mother, but I love it!
kathleen @ the daily crumb says
i had crazy insomnia last night as well! no fun at all…
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
I totally feel you on the insomnia phase…I’m not pregnant and the past couple weeks I’ve been waking up around 3 or 4am needing to pee, having a headache AND being super dehydrated. Then when my alarm actually goes off, it’s like pulling teeth to get me awake. SO weird!
Amelia @ Eating Made Easy says
Oh man I remember so much insomnia while pregnant! When that baby is here you’ll sleep like a LOG. Of course it’s much less sleep, but the sleep is so much better.
