Good raspberry morning!
I was up running by 7, per usual. I guess turning running into a habit was really all I needed. I no longer wake up famished and ready to dive into a bowl of oats. I wake up EXCITED about my run. So so weird, and so not me!
But I’m enjoying it while I can! I ran 4.5 miles today on a different route near the UVA grounds. Today’s route was HILLY! One thing I love about my usual 4 miler through my neighborhood is that except for 2-3 big ones, it’s relatively flat. Today’s run was not, and it wore me out!
I survived with a slightly slower pace and one walking break up a mountain.
Back to some rasp in a jar!
- 1/3 cup GH oatmeal mix
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1/3 cup yogurt
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 1 whole small banana
–> all stirred together and overnight in the fridge
This AM:
- Groovy Granola layer
- Blackberries
- Raspberries
- A tsp of peanut butter hidden somewhere in there
Also atypical of me: I’m pumped to go in to work!!! Perhaps a cup of coffee will be nice when I get there 🙂 WE NOW SERVE ICED COFFEE!!
Miranda says
That looks AMAZING! I love the berries.
Just curious, what time do you usually go to sleep? Do you need a full 8 hours to be able to get up and run?
KathEats says
Yes, I must have 7.5 hours but I aim for 8-8.5.
I went to bed at 10:30 and got up at 6:26. I usually count 8 hours and set my alarm – so if I’m in bed at 11 I set it for 7. 9:45 I’d set it for 6. When we opened the bakery though I got less and it was bad!
Miranda @ Working Mom Works Out says
You guys have seemed SO BUSY. I was wondering how you did it!
Lynda says
Have a wonderful day at the bakery! Can’t wait to make it down to Cville for some of that amazing bread!

Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
Blackberries are my least favorite berry.. I mean.. I think they are still yummy, but I prefer blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries. I was think thinking how there are always a MILLION more blackberries in my berry medlies then anyother other berry!
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
Your breakfast looks delicious! I’ve been having overnight oats more and more now that it is getting so warm outside.
Enjoy that cup of coffee!
Molly @ RDexposed says
I need to get Mason jars asap! They are so multi-function and well, just make breakfast look pretty!
Cait's Plate says
Yay for iced coffee! Also, I totally know how shocking it is to suddenly be a morning runner when you’re usually not! I go in and out of the routine (currently out due to injury 🙁 ) but it’s always amazing the transition from when you first start doing it to when it’s more of a habit. Glad it’s working out for you and keep it up! (I’m running variously through ya 😉 )
Krissy @ Shiawase Life says
OMG!
Iced Coffee!!!!!! This makes me very happy =) Now I can come straight over to GH after yoga on Saturday instead of making a stop somewhere else. 😉
Elizabeth @ Eat Clean Fun says
Your breakfast looks beautiful! I am ADDICTED to iced coffee. SOOOO good!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
I love how big your jars are! Is it weird that I am already excited for breakfast tomorrow because I get to make mine in a cashew butter jar?! 🙂
faith says
BEAUTIFUL first picture!

kaila @ healthy helper! says
Raspberries sound so good right now! Gotta love those summer berries!
Angie @ Musings of a Violet Monkey says
Hooray for iced coffee!!
Hopefully you are cold-brewing your iced coffee… right, right? (Don’t mind me – I’m a coffee snob. It’s what a couple of years running a coffee shop will do to ya!).
The berries are beautiful!

Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Wooohoo for iced coffee! I’d be pumped for work too if that meant I got to hang out at a bakery all day! Have a good one Kath! 🙂

Oooo that breakfast looks delicious!!! And iced coffee is my absolute FAVOURITE!!!

Freya (Brit Chick Runs) says
Iced coffee, all that delicious bread….GH is slowly killing me!
I love running in the morning too, but OH my days it was humid out today! Hottest run of 2011!
Gena says
The advent of iced coffee is a milestone for any dining establishment. Congrats!

I am very jealous of those gorgeous raspberries. Also love the spoon! 🙂
Liv @ The Salty n' Sweet says
In order to start making running a habit in the mornings, I have to actually run ONCE before breakfast. Tomorrow, I’ll really try haha.
Valerie @ City|Life|Eats says
The first picture is so gorgeous 🙂
Monika @ Powered by paprika says
Wow! Those overnight oats look good-
I woke up late this morning and didn’t have a chance to run before work 🙁
Do you eat anything before running in the morning?
KathEats says
I eat a date almost every morning and drink some water. The date helps so much!
JenATX says
is this how you trained your tummy not to be famished when you wake up? Because I miss my peaceful runs in the morning but I also am starving when I wake up….
Lauren says
Razzies!! yeaha I love those on me overnight oats 🙂 I treasure them when I get them b/c they are soo dang expensive sometimes!! Yay for iced coffee at work!!!
Natalia - a side of simple says
I’ve recently started an internship and have to get up at 5am each morning to make the 2+ hour commute. Making it a “habit” is what makes each day easier and easier and more routine, like your morning running.
Hope you have a great day at the bakery! I’m sure people are starting to get low on their weekend purchases 😉
Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me says
Iced coffee is the best! Yum!
Maria @ Beautiful Busy Bee says
This is totally random, but your spoon is beautiful!! 🙂
Diana @ frontyardfoodie says
I want your raspberry oats! So jealous.
I love waking up pumped for the day, even if it is a normal day! I hope you enjoy your cup of coffee:)
Khushboo says
I can’t decide if I like raspberries! The ironic part is that I live all other berries and raspberry-flavoured foods…maybe it’s a texture thing!
Freeoscar says
You may have already seen this, but this is a great idea that your Alma mater is doing.

Oh how fun!! I didn’t know about that!
Rebecca says
I am loving morning runs too! Before food’s sitting in my stomach. It starts my day off so well and is a great way to “loosen up” and feel accomplished! It’s weird that I feel more energetic bolting out of bed for a run then when I wait till later in the day. Psychological maybe?
The berries look so fuzzy in that first picture — YUM! Enjoy your iced coffee! I love that you’re serving it. Hot coffee has zero appeal for me in summer.
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
I wish I had the motivation to run in the morning recently! Even if I’m not hungry, I always convince myself I will be.
staceyhealthylife says
That oats in a jar mix looks so pretty. I haven’t had fresh raspberries in such a long time. Enjoy your day at work.
lynn @ the actor's diet says
bravo for iced coffee. i don’t get places in LA where it’s warm year round who still pour hot coffee on ice.
Morgan @ moments of mmm says
Yay for iced coffee! I live on that stuff during Arizona summers.
Raspberries look delish! Every time I bring home a pint, they disappear within hours because of the boyfriend. I’m thinking a secret stash is in order.
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
Your post just oozes with joy and excitement! I love it! I love how wholesome your days are. That’s really what I’m shooting for.
Meredith says
Hey! It was so fun chatting yesterday at the bakery! I ended up frying a couple eggs like you suggested, I put them over some toasted Cheddar Garlic and topped it off with some salsa! It was a huge hit with the BF, kind of like a savory breakfast-for-dinner 🙂 I can’t wait to come up with other meals using CG this week too!
KathEats says
YUM!! Glad you enjoyed it :O)
Sarah says
Oh, yum. Your breakfast has me wanting to venture to my nearest pick-your-own orchard. And your run has me wanting to seriously move my legs on my lunch break. I’ll at least be parking my car far away from the restaurant I’m getting takeout from to help fill my craving!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Dang that looks good! I need to get some chia seeds. I’ve still not tried them. Have a great day Kath!
Nicole @The Wine Diaries says
What an amazing looking breakfast! At our grocery store, fresh berries were on sale and so I was super excited to add them to my oats also. Cheers!
Angel7 says
The raspberries look amazing–the lighting in the first picture of the raspberries must help them look awesome, plus the fact that they are ripe and delish!!!
Iced coffee… Love it!!!

Those raspberries look so plump and delicious!
Yay for serving iced coffee, perfect timing since it’s so hot everywhere now.

Hey Kath! Wondering what your thoughts are on Veggie Washes? A friend raves about this one http://www.veggie-wash.com/ but I’m not sure I’m convinced! Curious what your opinion might be here 🙂
KathEats says
I just use water to rinse mine. My dad has always said that water should get rid of most of what’s on them. I’m not one to pay extra for fancy sprays..
Angie @ Musings of a Violet Monkey says
I use that brand, and love it. I’ve used it for years. I can visibly see the difference, so hopefully it’s doing something!
If you get the “refill” size, it’s not a bad ‘cost per use’ kind of thing. The refill lasts quite a while.

Somthing about the first picture of this post made me go back and look at it 3 times…. your pics are always so great but something about this one is extra great…. but i cant put my finger on it, the raspberries look almost glassy?! does that even make sense?
Jessica Engwis says
Great website! Question for you, what is GH Oatmeal Mix? Thanks!
KathEats says
Great Harvest Oatmeal Mix. We make it in the store – it’s great!
Marissa says
Good job getting your body to adjust! My body does the same thing; if I work out a specific time long enough, it craves to workout at that time! Last summer it was 7 AM. In the school year it was 4 PM. Now this summer I’m sitting happy at about 11 AM! Haha, an odd time, I know, but I have that luxury; no school and I’m unemployed.
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
oh hello berries! They look awesome 🙂
Brittany @ Pretty Fit, Pretty Healthy, Pretty Happy says
