Man, I am WORN OUT.
I don’t know if it was the hours of activity yesterday or back-to-back nights of alcohol or dehydration or the weekend let-down of Sunday or the fact that it’s hotter today, but I feel absolutely drained! No energy to do anything. Even lounging on the couch seems like work!
However, we did find just enough energy in our automobile to drive and do some apple picking + picnicking!
Apple-focused picnic at the top
And where there are apples, there is PEANUT BUTTER!
Hummus + zucchini + lettuce + pickle sandwiches
With a side of apples, carrots and Madison‘s peanut butter, which we killed in two days!!
We are not ones to turn down the chance to taste-test
Tasty, but overpriced
There were BIG plans for an apple donut, but the chocolate + port tasting took away all cravings. Perhaps we’ll come back in October for a donut because they sure did smell good.
Highlight of my day so far as been stepping in gum
Oh, and ‘dem apples!
Jessica @ How Sweet It Is says

Jillian @ Reshape Your Life says
Apple picking is probably one of the biggest things I miss about fall “up north”. Apple picking and pumpkin patches. You just don’t get that here in Texas… It’s sad really.
Looks like it was a TON of fun!!
Rhea (Greek Feaster) says
Apple picking means I can’t avoid the F WORD any more. It’s fall, y’all!

We have an apple tree in our backyard, but they never look as good as the apples in the orchards!

Ella @ The Princess and the P says
Kath, I love your apple bag! Where is it from / can I get it in your OpenSky shop? 😉
P.S. Did you ever reveal what your vanity license plate says, or was it determined that license plates + the Internet = not safe?
Kath says
I didn’t reveal it. Guess I probably shouldn’t. But you guys guessed it right 🙂
Freya (Brit Chick Runs) says
How come those apples are so neat looking!? The ones that grow in my garden look a state 🙁 all bent out of shape :/
Seglare says
The apple farm looks gorgeous! Seeing your bag full of fresh apples made me miss them (and the smell of freshly picked apples) so much. I can’t wait to visit my parents and their apple trees later this month! 🙂
Annie@stronghealthyfit says
Apple picking! I’m not ready for that yet, but I do love it 🙂 I just want to hold on to a few more days of summer.

This post made me miss living in the midwest during the fall so much!!! 🙁

Camille says
Gorgeous apples!
What a great time!
Samantha says
I bet it is the alcohol that’s throwing you off.
Do you pay for the apples by the pound? Was it any less because you picked them yourself? How much per pound?
Kath says
I think they were $1.19/lb. But I dont’ think they were organic. at least I didn’t see any signs for it and if they were I think I would have
Heather says
I absolutely LOVE apple picking – I need to check when the season starts up here!

love going to the orchard near our town- half the fun is stuffing yourself silly with apples while you pick them. the one we frequent has the most amazing apple turnovers.

Mom and I went to Carter Mt. when we vacationed in C’ville a couple years ago. We were there in July and bought peaches.
Kath says
CooL!
Maren says
The pictures of Matt up in the tree makes me laugh so much, because my boyfriend is totally the same way. He would have found his way up about three trees doing something like that too! I love going to orchards that let you pick your own fruit.
Courtney says
Eh, the apple doughnuts at Carter Mt. are over-rated, in my opinion. If you want good doughnuts, you have to come to Richmond and go to the Westhampton Bakery. They have the most ridiculously amazing chocolate doughnuts in the entire world!
Kath@eatingforliving says
I hope your energy has come back now!
The apples look incredibly delicious. 😀
Ashley @ Nourishing the Soul says
When I first read this post’s title I thought you were referring to the game, which I LOVE! But the apple-picking theme was fun too 😉 I have been eating tons of apples over the past few weeks, almost always with peanut or almond butter. Mmmm…
Wei-Wei says
Omnomnom. I looooove apples but I can’t munch on them now because I got braces. 🙁 How many did you pick in total? (Weight or numbers, doesn’t matter!)

And yes, where there are apples, PB must follow!
Kristen @ Kristen, Sweetly says
That photo of Matt scaling the tree and going for his apple is too cute! Apple picking really looks like the perfect way to celebrate the almost-fall. Also, amazing idea with the squash oats this morning. I’ve been heartbroken over pumpkin recently.
Diana @ frontyardfoodie says
I went apple picking yesterday too! Made apple sauce, stewed apples AND dehydrated a batch! It felt so productive.
Paula says
Did the orchard offer honey crisp apples? If you get a chance to try them do it as they are the best you’ll ever eat.
Kath says
Not yet..
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
nothing says fall like apple picking! i can’t wait to go!
beki says
Prince Michel. It’s funny seeing you in my neck of the woods now. September 18th and 19th is the Virginia Wine festival which is a good way to try a LOT of VA wines. I always go on the Sunday because tens of thousands of people show up for these wine festivals and most always show up on the Saturday.
Kath says
Oh I’m putting this on my calendar!
Sarah K. @ The Pajama Chef says
apple picking is so fun! 🙂
tasha - the clean eating mama says
I love picking apples from the trees!

I can’t eat apples from the supermarket anymore, because farm-fresh ones taste so much better! I’d rather have none than something that tastes like a faint echo of apple 🙂
Alyssa says
what beautiful apples! Here in Phoenix we’re still very much in the throes of a 110* summer. My Fall dreams won’t begin until late October- maybe not even until November! I’m jealous.
Kim says
Isn’t apple picking just the absolute perfect fall activity?! I’m from upstate NY and there are orchards all over…my family used to go every fall as tradition. AND the apple cider donuts are totally worth going back 😉
Clizia says
Apple picking sounds so much fun!!! I wish I could teleport to the USA to try it, I’ve never heard of anything like that where I live 🙁
Erika @ Food, Fitness, & Fun says
Look at all those apples! I’m guessing there will be some apple recipes in KERF’s future…? 😉
Halley (Blunder Construction) says
APPLE PICKING! Completely jealous, I need to get my behind to the nearest orchard ASAP. Happy apple season!

Noticed your plastic wrap and was curious if you’ve ever seen these nifty reusable bags? http://www.snacktaxi.com/
I’m kind of addicted to them, and they make packing for work or trips even more fun! And bonus- they can be cleaned in the dishwasher or washing machine!
Kath says
those are definitely the cutest reusable snack bags I’ve ever seen!
Grace @ Front Porch Yoga says
Could you carry them on Open Sky? I don’t now how it all works, but it seems like it’d be a neat product to add to your collection 🙂
Kath says
Already asked!
Grace @ Front Porch Yoga says
Yay! Thanks!
