I LOVE MY COLLEGE!!!!!!!!!!!!! We went to a Davidson event tonight for alumni who have made contributions. I have to say, our contribution was S.M.A.L.L., but the event tonight definitely inspired me to donate more. I had the most wonderful college experience and would give anything to share the opportunity with others. The husband and I just celebrated the 7 year anniversary of our meeting at Freshman Orientation this past Saturday <3
Before the event, I had hot tea, Kashi H2H (dry), some kashis, and a spoonful of PB when I got home from classes.
The Davidson event was held at the Charlotte City Club, which is in the top of one of the city’s skyrises –
Panthers Stadium in the distance!
The husband got a fabulous beer and I had a few sips to start the night off –
But I decided on a glass of white wine. I know red makes me more hungover, and I thought I’d drink beer way too fast to enjoy it.
Plus two appetizers that came by. A fabulous tuna on a chip and something goat cheese –
I then had the honor of taking my photo with Davidson’s President Ross! A little blurry, but still a nice photo 🙂
Bad Behavior
Knowing I have an early morning, my goal was one drink for the evening. With a glass of wine plus probably 1/3 a beer, I was probably good to go by now. But being in the college mode, I had a second chardonnay!
Then we dug into the “heavy hors d’oeuvres.” My opinion: they could have been a lot heavier!
Veggies, which were good, hummus, pitas, a toast piece, olive tapenade –
Plate #2 (more of the same)
Plus more beer sips and a “taste” of the red wine –
And another taste!! BAD ME! (But cute wedding ring hub!)
Here he is with his frat brother Dave, who should be exploring the blog for the first time tonight 🙂
All the Davidson umbrellas. The lightrail right was bad. Very soggy and my feet were cold and wet.
The husband put dinner in perspective perfectly:
“I got enough calories but I am not satisfied AT. ALL. And I don’t even know what to eat to satisfy me. I almost want like an apple or somethin’ ”
I agree. I’m not hungry but my mouth wants to eat!!!
Before all the exciting wine, I was planning to workout first thing tomorrow. I have A TON to do for classes, including a huge exam that counts for 20% of my grade on Thursday on prerequisite courses. Plus lots to do for Micro lab tomorrow night. I think I’ll rearrange my schedule as follows –
The Plan:
- 6:30: Up + Shower
- 8:00: Leave for class
- 9:00: Class
- 10:45: Arrive home
- 11:00-3:00pm: Study
- 3:00pm: Workout + Shower
- 5:00: Leave for class
- 5:30: Dinner To Go
- 6:00-9:00pm: Class
- 10:00: Bed
- Thursday: Study all day; workout at 4pm after the test.

Kath – I just wanted to give you a heads up that I mentioned you in my (super new) blog . I couldn’t figure out how to link or blink or whatever the heck you call it!

Aw, this post made me miss my school. I attended an undergraduate school very similar to Davidson, so your blogging about college events always makes me smile.
sarah says
like Hil, i always think of my college (Williams) when i read about your college events. go liberal arts! you are lucky to still be geographically close to yours to enjoy all the alumni fun.
luuuv the schedule – sometime i just need to make detailed plans like that, too! i especially like how once you are past 3 pm, you are done w/ studying for the day!
K says
Hi Rubin – I’m obviously not Kath, but just to give you a little advice to start with….I would say first figure out WHY you think you’re binge eating. What is the root of the problem? Figure out what is triggering you to do it, and when you’re doing it. Is there a pattern? Do you eat a lot when you’re home alone, watching TV, bored or sad, or when you haven’t eaten enough during the day? Once you figure out the reason for eating then you can try to make small changes in your schedule, lifestyle and eating plans! Good luck, and just start one hour and one day at a time.

Looks like the alumni party was fun. I don’t think my graduate school would EVER put on anything like that. I wish I felt the same about my college experience as you guys did. I did have fun and learned a lot, but I definitely didn’t love my schools and I don’t know that I would ever donate money to them. I think if I had a different experience that it might change my mind though, especially if I’d meant my husband there and spent 4 years of school with him!

My aunt lives in NC and used to work in some clerical posistion at Davidson. I went there with her a couple of times and got to explore the campus a bit and even ate lunch in the cafeteria. We also went to quite a few of the restaurants, shops and Ben and Jerry’s right around the campus. It did seem to be a very nice school. My sister was all set to attend but my father died her senior year and she ended up just attending a local college, but we both loved the campus just from visiting, so i see why you would love it so much!!!!

I work in the Alumni Relations office at the university I attended, so I love to see other young alumni getting involved by donating and attending alumni events! Keep it up Kath, and years from now you will be so glad to have had such a rewarding experience during AND after college!

I wish that I lived close to my University. I had an amazing college experience too, but never get to go to alumni events- Waaaaaa!
Good luck in your busy day today. Looks a little stressful, but I would much rather be super busy than bored.
Kath says
rubin ,
I agree with K that you should probably address the emotional reasons behind the binging first, which is something that I am not qualified to do. Best of luck in seeking some help.
Katrina ,
You bet!
jess ,
Cool you’ve been around Davidson! I am sorry your sister wasn’t able to attend. I feel in love with the campus on my first visit too.
