My day ended with this:
So how it started is no longer important!
I was a grouch. I was really tired. I don’t know what was up! Perhaps the fact that I didn’t get too much activity today.
Instead of yoga, I made labels! [Labelmaker on sale for $14.99 at Staples!]
And ate Baked Oatmeal Snack Bars. I’m just not in love with these bars. Sorry Kath!
I am in love with our army of local honey bears! They are now friends with Beaker, Bocker + Churton. That is…until they are adopted by the locals.
We have sandwich menus and newsletters!
And we have WILD ANIMALS barging into the house!!!
Sniff sniff
The Tiger LOVED my grandmother’s oriental rug! He must have smelled Smotey and Murph and all the kitties of ages past.
This evening I perked up with some IPA
And some veggies
We had a last-minute impromptu joint dinner. I love joint dinners! Combining ingredients and labor makes everything easier and fun!
I was the grillmaster – zucchini, salt, pepper, olive oil and smoked paprika
Matt was the beer master. Duh.
Faith worked on the beans – a can of refried pintos from Whole Foods mixed with homemade black beans and some herbs, cayenne, cumin and salt
We piled the beans, veggies, and Faith’s HOMEMADE CHEESE (she made it this afternoon with grass-fed milk and a special technique that I know nothing about but admire her so for!)
Toppings included greek yogurt and Cholula. We served them on crispy corn tortillas – also from Whole Foods – that I keep in my freezer for last-minute dinners. I grilled them and they got crispy so we were able to break off pieces and eat the tostadas like nachos! Loved this dinner!
Faith + Tate jumped up enthusiastically and without hesitation after dinner at the suggestion of “Let’s go for a walk!!” The evening had turned from stormy to beautiful! We hiked around the neighborhood for a good 40 minutes until settling into Francesca’s final slice of Tiramisu and a few cookies I had frozen from Cville Market’s bulk bins.
Faith and I had a mini Gossip Girl love fest oogling over our favorite episodes, characters and songs. The finale episode was wonderful – best of this season!!
I’m off to read my book – Matt’s got the alarm set early because he is BAKING tomorrow!!
klm says
tigggggggggggggggger! and I want that tiramisu!!

Getting in a lot of activity and moving around really does affect someone’s mood. I think we just get used to keeping active and when we aren’t it’s mentally and physically difficult on us.
Miranda @ Working Mom Works Out says
Aww, I’m glad your day ended well. Chin up!
Meg says

Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
I love label makers! I have no need for one, but that’s so cheap I kind of want it on principle alone!
The Healthy Hipster says
I also have a label maker addiction. I use it to label all my pantry jars. Except mine is very old timey and I have to use all the power my hand musclez to punch in each letter. O-A-T-S. B-U-C-K-W-H-E-A-T. I could go on… 😉
Averie (LoveVeggiesandYoga) says
faith’s homemade cheese? Ok i am going to go stalk her blog for a recipe maybe! sounds delish! whether it’s real cheese or nut-based cheeze, I am off to find out…

I made the oatmeal bars today and I think they were too salty for me! Need to add some chocolate or jam, but then I guess they become more desserty and less breakfasty…

I’m surprised your bakery will be closed on Sundays! 😯 Lots of people swoon over fresh bakery bread on their only day off. I know I do! (7 days a week, actually!)
KathEats says
Almost all GH have at least 1 day off – some have 2. We have to have a rest day, and that’s the best day to do it

What’s important is that you owned the day and didn’t let the sun go down on the grouchy!
Jessa says
The newsletters looks fantastic and the pic of you and Matt is perfect. The more I keep reading your blog, and hearing about all this great bread from Great Harvest it makes me wish I were close to one so I could enjoy some of it. Especially, after seeing your Cinnamon Chip French Toast!

Interesting spices to add to the zucchini! When we grill zucchini, I put steak seasoning on it, olive oil. Grill and then add blue cheese or goat cheese to it. YUM.
Jil @ Big City, Lil Kitchen says
Aww – kitty! and dinner looks fantastic. I really need to get myself a label maker – trip to Staples tomorrow to scope out sales? Perhaps…perhaps.
