It’s been a while since I’ve had time to sit down and share a slice of life. Hold on to your {witches} hats!!
^^The Sayas at the Halloween store scared by the talking witches and electronic barking dogs!
Some breakfasts…
Overnight oats with granola and almond butter drizzle.
Whipped banana oatmeal in a jar on a gorgeous fall morning –
Fried egg, roll, pear with cinnamon –
More OIAJ! Why is it that I always finish all my jars the same week!?
Birthday lunch at Whiskey Jar! WJ is one of my favorite lunch spots downtown. It’s casual but still sit-down and has a great menu. The egg salad and pimento cheese sandwich is one of my favorites, but I got a salad with the blackened catfish on top on my bday!
Plus I shared this cornbread with sorghum butter with my friend Jess. SO GOOD!
Pumpkin beers at lunch – tis the season!
Drippy egg kale salad with Caromont Farm goat cheese, avocado, pine nuts and pesto.
Smoothie bowl from The Juicy Laundry after yoga. I just joined the Fly Dog Yoga $30 for 30 days, so I can’t wait to do a lot more yoga in the coming weeks. And the epicness that is the new Juice Laundry cafe will be making more appearances too. They have smoothies, juice, and other healthy items, and a love space in which to enjoy them (with toys and lots of tables!)
Leftover salmon kale salad!
Smoked salmon, feta and pesto salads with mom and dad!
Lunch out with Sarah and the kiddos at Zoe’s Kitchen – another favorite lunch spot with a great healthy menu! I get the salmon kebobs that comes with a side salad, hummus and pita.
Spotted at Target – Bitsy’s Brainfood!! Stocked up for Mazen’s Halloween party this week : )
Mazen has been studying up on Frankenstein and practicing his monster walk! My mom got him this book, which he loves.
Birthday dinner at Travinia with mom, dad, M and M! I had a lemon kale salad and a cioppino with a delicious black cod featured inside.
Then we went home to eat these!
Chickpea curry with English roasted potatoes – a Matt specialty!
Barley and beef soup! Enjoyed on a dark and stormy night.
Girls night at Sarah’s – a Mary Kay party hosted by Lauren!
I bought some of the Cityscape Silkening Dry Oil Mist, which smells amazing and sticks with you all day. It’s also not greasy – like it more than lotion!
Sarah had a delicious dessert buffet with pumpkin bread and chocolate fondue! And all the wine, obviously : )
I’ll leave you with three of my former Halloween costumes. This year’s costume is still TBD!

Your posts always make me so hungry! Loving all the Halloween updates. In Australia, it’s definitely not as celebrated as in the U.S. 🙁 HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Amazing! But must ask what is shogun butter?

Sorghum! It’s a sweet syrup like maple. Here’s more info about it: http://ansonmills.com/recipes/512

Lots of comforting warm food!! I made my own hot smoked salmon last week, I’m in love!!! We only really have cold smoked salmon to buy here which I do eat a LOT of but it’s nice to switch it up a bit.

You sure eat a lot of seafood. I love seafood but the rest of the family tends not to so I am stuck with experimentation nights and at times when we go out for a meal.
And beef barley soup! My absolute fave when it gets a bit snowy. My wife has a pretty great recipe and we all love it.
Have a Happy Halloween Kath

You eat the best food! It always looks so good. I mean this in the nicest way possible, and clearly we can’t see how much you are actually eating, but how do you manage to not gain weight from eating what you eat and drinking a good amount? It doesn’t look like you ever really eat “diet” food or deprive yourself. I think it’s awesome and refreshing :). What’s your secret other than working out a lot?
KathEats says
Well I am not the most slender girl out there! I think my meals often look more decadent than they really are, and staying active really is key. On days when I work out I can eat 2200-2300 calories and technically not gain weight, so that’s a lot! I also think weight lifting has changed my metabolism for the better too.

Matt’s English potatoes look awesome! I’ve never heard of that before. Do you have a recipe? 🙂
KathEats says
We’ll have to do one!

Thanks for sharing these great ideas & real food inspiration. SO important to teach our kids how yummy real food can be! And how we can all take health to another level by joining the REAL FOOD revolution!

Hi Kath,
You turned me onto overnight oats and now that I’m dairy free, its the one thing I miss the most. I’ve tried the vegan versions, subbed vegan yogurt, but nothing can replicate the doughy texture I love most.
Can you please come up with a recipe that would replicate the doughiness? Or even suggestions would help so much! Thank you!

Gurlll, you need to bring your outdoor furniture inside!
