Matt and I had planed on running a 10K this morning, but I woke up super stiff, sore and hungry and Matt had a week’s worth of sleep to catch up on. And it’s 28* out there. A run just didn’t seem to make sense!
[Note, do not do a ton of pull-ups without having done pull-ups in months. My whole trunk has been ripped open and I can’t move my arms!!!]
I let Matt sleep while I came down to an excellent breakfast
- 1/3 cup oats
- ~2 tbsp 9 grain cereal
- Lots of water
- ~1/4 cup milk
- Chia seeds
- Half small banana
- 1/3 cup pumpkin
- Cinnamon
- Crunchy Coconut Granola
- 1 heaping tsp Cacao Bliss (this stuff is amazing melted on oats!)
- 1 tsp pumpkin butter
- 1 heaping tsp Barney Butter
Christmas Blend made with a splash of egg nog! Wish I could say it was amazing, but it didn’t taste all that different from milk.
We’re going to shower and head uptown to see our friends cross the finish line for the Thunder Road half and marathon (although we may have missed the halvsies!) Then Xmas shopping, tree shopping (??), a late afternoon 10K, and an Xmas party!
Jocelyn@JocelynEatsFresh says
sometimes…it’s OK not to go for that planned run 😉
Your bfast looks delish this morn 😉
Christy says
What a nice day ahead! I had a run planned for this morning too, but it’s raining and 44 here… 🙁
Madeline @ Greens and Jeans says
Sleep and food are definitely more important than a morning run! Sad to hear that the eggnog wasn’t that special in your coffee because I’d been contemplating doing the same thing.
Food Makes Fun Fuel says
I got a sample of that cacao bliss to review and I can’t wait. it sounds so exotic.
It’s super sunny here which makes me want to run but there’s also 4 inches of snow and single digit temperatures. Oh the joys/ifortune of being home and not having my school’s gym.
Karla says
Sorry to hear the egg nog wasn’t amazing in the coffee. I was wondering that when I saw Tina do it on her blog.
Have a great time Christmas shopping!
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
Wow, those oats look FABULOUS! I agree that a relaxing morning can sometimes be just what we need to start the weekend! Enjoy your Saturday.
Courtney (The Hungry Yogini) says
Sounds like my kind of morning!! Stay warm and enjoy that cold weather =) It’s like 70 in Flordia! Nice, but seriously…Where are you Christmas!? I’ll be singing that tune alllllll season 😉
Have a good one!
Cynthia (It All Changes) says
Where’s all that southern heat?!
How nice of you to let Matt sleep. I’m sure he appreciated it. 🙂
Sam (Merit to the Carrot) says
Well, I hope that you regain function of yours arms soon! Lots of cooking to be done 🙂
Great breakfast! Have a lovely Saturday.
Morgan @ Life After Bagels says
I was supposed to wake up early and do homework, but I also felt like we had the week worth of sleep to catch up on.

Beautiful! I love your dishes and placemats. Oats look delish too 🙂
Sara says
Hi Kath!
I know you don’t count calories anymore, but I was just curious to see if you had any idea how many calories your oatmeal usually is?
Have a great Saturday!! 🙂
Kath says
Sara,
Most of my oatmeal bowls land around 400 calories – sometimes more if I add a few extra toppings. I think they seem like they’d be a lot more, but I keep the toppings on the scant side (most of the time 🙂 ) so they’re not quite as indulgent as they might look up close in photos.
Katy @ These Beautiful Feet says
I love it. I wouldn’t have gone running either. It’s going to hit 78 degrees here in Florida. I know I should be loving it, but it’s that or hotter 300 days of the year and I am OVER IT! 🙂 Enjoy Christmas shopping, we’re going to be working on that today too. Good luck braving the crowds today!
Jana says
That bowl of oats looks so good, I have to find that Cacao Bliss somewhere! The zebra print bowl makes the meal though 🙂
candice says
When I used to run, I blew off runs when the temperature was subzero… always. I wasn’t the most dedicated runner, hahaha. Your breakfast looks amazing and delicious and cute all at once in that zebra bowl! The nut butter + cacao bliss are drool-worthy. Mmmm.
Bronwyn says
There are days you just need to sleep.
I love that bowl by the way! You have the largest variety of bowls I’ve ever seen.
Tammy @ Defining Wellness says
You are the Oatmeal Queen. That’s all I have to say.
Jesse says
Oh girl I don’t blame you…28F is too cold to run it! If it’s that cold I skip it-and hit the gym instead 🙂
Naomi(onefitfoodie) says
fun filled day ahead! I think sleep would definately win in this situation and look at that breakfast?! reason alone to sleep in and enjoy 🙂
Traci says
Wouldn’t it be great to have summer back?! It’s early afternoon and still only has warmed to 26 degrees here in Boston…with the wind chill it feels like 8 deg. Hate it! Really makes running outside not so much fun.
Runeatrepeat says
It is sooooo cold, but I’m training for a race so I had to run. I hate dreading running since it’s my fave hobby, but this cold is ridiculous!!
Kristen says
What a good day you have planned!
Jenn (www.j3nn.net) says
That looks like a delicious bowl of oats!! 🙂

Ouch the description of your arms made me wince a little [sympathy pain? 😀 ]–hope it gets better soon!
Love how much more loaded your oats are these days 😀
And always jealous of all your coffee flavors! I can never find anything in Canada beyond French Vanilla and Hazelnut!
ashleigh says
I hope you find a good tree! have fun on your run and at your xmas party!
Liz H. says
Nothing like a Saturday morning 10K (pshhhhhhh, that you can even run 10K is awesome) I would have skipped it for breakfast and sleep as well!
Jil says
Kath, I just love your variety of bowls! They are so fun!! Your oats look delicious, as always!
Light Delight with TouTou says
there is lots of granola 😀 cute bowl too, love it:-D
Caitlin says
I had to run my half marathon this AM in that cold weather!! I think it got up to a whopping 38* 🙂 Who plans a race in the middle of December…hello, we live in Charlotte, not FL!!
Foodie (Fab and Delicious Food) says
Sounds like you’ve got such a fun day planned!
Madelin @ What is for Breakfast? says
Your oats look awesome today (not that they don’t always!). I’m craving oats so badly, living out of a hotel at the moment and I can’t make any!!
christie @ honoring health says
Wow, sounds like you have a busy day! hope you are having fun!!
maria says
Iphones not working with gloves SUCKS. I’m dealing with the same issue. I have noticed if the end of my glove is just a little damp I can sometimes make it work without removing the glove. Cutting off the fingertip of a thumb part of the glove is a good idea, Think I might try it!
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
sounds like a very x-mas theme day. too bad the eggnog in the coffee couldn’t make it even more so!
Jess (What's Normal, Anyways?) says
I love your bowl, Kath….I can’t wait to have my place finished so I can get all my pretty dishes out of storage…seeing your colorful place setting is so refreshing!
