Inland we drive. Westward we go.
Munching on bags of lettuce
…shaken with Garlic Gold.
Cherries.
Yogurt mixes.
Quite the ‘healthy eating on the go’ bunch!!
I think it’s my turn to drive 🙁

I SO dislike the drive home from vacation. I actually prefer to arrive home in the evening from vacation so that there’s only a couple hours to bedtime. Have a great drive home:)

Long driving makes me tired, I don’t think it would be a good idea if I were to have a “turn” at driving on a family road trip 😛
I love the salad-in-a-bag (SIAB? Oooh, coincidence? Haha) idea, that’s taking creativity and healthy eating on the go to a whole new level.

I wanna try the pineapple kind! I haven’t seen it at my Kroger yet.
And a note to anyone that reads this comment, the cherries are PERFECT right now. Buy them.

salad in a bag! awesome idea!!!
muy importante great harvest question for you (and Matt!). sooooo… after reading and seeing tons about great harvest on your blog, i was elated to stumble across one in my new town! whats even better about this whole situation….? they were having a buy one get one 50% off sale today! HOLLLLLA! I was just wondering if you have had good experience freezing the bread, bc you KNOW i was all over that sale (dakota and pumpkin chocolate chip, swoon!).
Kath says
Yes, it does freeze well!
Janna says
awesome, thanks!!
p.s. the dakota is out of this world good!
Sarah Munie says
I just stumbled upon your blog! I am in love with all your fabulous recipes and motivation, I just booked mark you in my fav’s. Very happy to find you! I love Chobani have not tried the other kind.
Diana @ frontyardfoodie says
I love packing fun things to eat on the road. I splurge most on fruit that I don’t usually get. Nothing like refreshing fruit to chase away carsickness!
Janet says
I have a question for you and your nutritional expertise. On our local Philly 10 show they had a nutritionist go through food that ‘seem’ healthy and then she gave healthier alternatives. She used Chobani pineapple as an example and said the manufacturers of “fruit on the bottom” type yogurts buy near rotting fruit that dealers can’t sell anymore and add syrup to stop the decay process and then sell to yogurt companies. (She went on to suggest buying plain greek yogurt and adding your own fresh fruit). What is your opinion on this?
Kath says
Well I can’t speak for the fruit on the bottom industry. I doubt they would use food that wasn’t safe for human consumption. But sure, they may use fruit that is bruised or unappealing aesthetically.
As for the sugar, I totally agree with her. Plain yogurt with fresh fruit is best. But that doesn’t mean it’s not totally fine to eat a fruity Chobani every now and then. Or just be conscious about sugar intake at the rest of the meal. But plain yogurt is most definitely the better choice.
Jenn says
Cute little post Kath!
Stacey@http://stacey-healthylife.blogspot.com/ says
That’s a good travel idea with the salad in a bag.

Heather says
I hate driving home from vaca. so sad!
Michelle @ Turning Over a New Leaf says
Wow. My family’s idea of healthy eating on the road is stopping by Subway for dinner. We don’t typically pack snacks on our road trips, and where we go, there’s nothing but Allsups convenience stores, and they have NOTHING healthy.
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) says
Fun snacks! I love the salad idea, although I can totally see myself poking a hole and dripping dressing everywhere. But I am a mess when it comes to things like that. 😉
I have got to try that Garlic Gold. It sounds simply wonderful! 😀
Anya @ Fitness & Sunshine says
Love the salad in a bag! What an easy way to bring something healthy with ya 🙂
Kimberly says
I’m going on a road trip tomorrow. I think your blog has already remodeled the way that I snack, and tomorrow we’re taking a cooler with bags of veggies and fruits and healthy dips, and sandwich stuff. Yum.
Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter says

Kelsey @ CleanTeenKelsey says
Hahah, I have definitely had my fair share of salads in a bag! Sometimes they’re the easiest way to get your greens. 🙂
Hannah says
Safe trip home! Somehow I didn’t think we’d see gas station hot dogs and ding dongs on your drive 😛
Stacey @ Tipping the (Kitchen!) Scales says
Never would have thought to put salad in a bag! Hope your trip home wasn’t too long and boring.
