A trip back in time: Saturday morning cartoons.
Except at this point in time, cartoon means Michael Scott and Conan!
And a grown up breakfast:
Smoothie in a bowl
For TWO smoothies:
- 1 banana
- 1.5 cups milk
- 1/4 cup Vega Choc-a-lot
- 1/2 cup raw oats
- 1/2 cup frozen berries
- 2 giant handfuls spinach
Toppings: Ancient Grains granola and coconut
Indeed, we have the same pajama pants! They are both men’s that I found on sale at a GAP outlet many years ago!
Today’s plans include yoga, lounging and an adult dinner party. [Like, real adults!]
AJ @ Flowing to Fifty says
That sounds just great. Don’t you love weekend mornings that are lounge-y and relaxed? It seems the weeks are so busy, it’s a good time to just hang and enjoy. Love the pants!!
Stacy @ Every Little Thing says
Love the spoon slots on that mug! And the more I become an adult, the more I like adult dinner parties 🙂
Meg says
I LOVE early morning cartoons! I remember watching Scooby Doo as I would get ready for grade school 😀

Such a perfect way to start off a Saturday! Haha before I finished reading the post, I was thinking that everyone’s going to comment on the matching PJ pants! Cute! I buy men’s pajama pants sometimes just cause I think they’re more comfortable!

Allison @ Can't Wait for Breakfast says
Haha! I just watched The Office while eating my oatmeal this morning! Enjoy your day!

Lol, I’ve always been attracted to the softness of mens pajama pants, but I didn’t want anyone to think I was weird (like my boyfriend)! I never buy them, but I always end up wearing his around the house, I’m glad someone else does this!
Have a great Saturday, Kath 😀

My husband and I also have matching pajama pants! We give each other pajamas for Christmas every year and a few years ago he waited until the last minute so all that was left at J.Crew (where he and I both got the pajamas) were men’s so we ended up with the same pants 🙂
Have a great weekend!
claire says
So cute! Matching P.J.’S 🙂
Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn says
Love me some Conan! I absolutely love that your bowl has a spoon rest, that would make my life ten times easier since my spoon always falls in my bowl! Happy Saturday morning cartoon watching, Kath:)

Cute post, the smoothie in a bowl looks wonderful and the pajama pants are adorable!

Haha I love the matching PJs. When I was a kid my brother and I would race to wake up first and pick the cartoons for the morning!
stacey-healthylife says
That’s funny your pajamas’s, socks, and slipper’s are alike or a least very similar.
Jess (Sweet Potato) says
I loved Saturday morning cartoons! Except they certainly contributed to my chubby youth as I would sit and watch cartoons for 4-5 hours every saturday morning. Typically after eating pancakes like I did every morning until I was about 16…
Katie says
Love the bowl! I want one! Is that the one you said they dont sell anymore though ; p
Have a great day Kath ! xo
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says

Kath,
Thanks to your Neat Home series, I organized my kitchen drawers and put all of those messy cereal boxes on top of my fridge in media boxes on top of my fridge. It looks so much neater. Thanks for the inspiration!

lynn @ the actor's diet says
i miss saturday morning cartoons so much. if someone wised up they’d make a channel for all of us nostalgic adults.
MonsteRawr says
I tired to get my husband to wear matching pajamas, but he doesn’t look nearly as good in purple silk as I do…
Kathleen says
That sounds SO lovely! 🙂 LOVE the pajama pants! 🙂
sarah says
@lynn- there is a cable channel called Boomerang that has a lot of old cartoons.
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
Haha, I love the matching pajamas!
Alaina says
I love Conan. But a part of me still likes watching Fairly Oddparents in the morning too. 🙂
Marie@feedingfive says
I have had that granola (from Costco right?). Wasn’t my favorite. After making homemade granola with coconut, coconut butter, and tons of nuts, I am pretty much ruined for any other granola/cereal. I keep my (homemade) granola in the fridge to keep it fresh and crunchy.
Emily @ Savory and Savage says
Lazy Saturday mornings are the best! And men’s cotton pajamas are for some reason – so much softer than women’s – especially after a bunch of washings. 🙂
Lauren says
The adult weekend continues. Enjoy!
Justeen @ Blissful Baking says
love the matching pjs! you guys are adorable 🙂
Tracy @ Commit To Fit says
Lounging is a fantastic word for today 🙂
Natalia - a side of simple says
Saturday morning cartoons, oh the memories! My siblings and I would always get up early because we had to complete a chore before we were allowed to go to my grandma’s and watch (we don’t have tv).
Michael Scott is a pretty good alternative, and might I add a perfect contribution to an “adult” weekend? 🙂
Caitlyn (A Spoonful of Life) says
Lazy mornings are the best! And I think I have those very same slippers, but in green! They are incredibly warm and comfy!!
Jessica says
Steel cut oats in the rice cooker with brown sugar and banana this morning for me!
We’ve got some cinnamon rolls from our local GH for tomorrow 🙂
I love how each one is so local! Ours sells Michigan map oven mitts-works out nicely for the mitten state 😀
Jessica
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) says
Saturday mornings have so many memories for me. And I love eating breakfast in front of the tv in my pajamas. I don’t do it often enough. 😀
Have fun today! 😀
Allison @ Happy Tales says
Matching PJ pants… I am totally jealous. I think Ryan would kill me if I were to buy us matching pj pants. I think I now have a new mission. (muuahaha)
Annette says
I love smoothies in a bowl also! Why mix in the oats into the smoothie instead of scatter it on top? Just wondering!
KathEats says
Because they make the smoothie doughier!
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says

Your day sounds great. I’m 27 and I’ve still never been to (or hosted) a dinner party. Does that mean I’m not an adult yet? I hope so 🙂

Perfect way to start a Saturday!

I love the site, but I was puzzled with the post that featured Vega. I followed the link, and was suspicious when I saw that they did not list the ingredients, but made liberal use of the word natural, which as you know, means nothing in terms of nutrition. Cyanide is natural.
Below is a link to a review that seemed to make sense:
http://www.greendrinkreviews.com/wp/2010/01/10/review-vega-health-optimizer/
Here is part of the review: “Vega is designed differently than most green drinks. It provides a larger than usual amount of protein, which makes it a cross between a protein drink and a green drink. The protein comes from hemp and green pea mostly, but also contains some rice and flax. The last two would be fillers to most people, but they do provide some protein. These ingredients give the mixture a slightly gritty texture, but you can easily overcome that by mixing with a “thick” fruit juice or nectar…… Maca is one of the ingredients I consider to be “average” in terms of benefits-to-bulk ratio (see my list of best, average and worst ingredients here)…. At approximately $4.35 per serving, the formula is a bit on the high side in terms of cost-benefit. The cost per ounce is low at $2.14, but the suggested serving size is larger than normal at over 2 ounces (61g). Flavored and sweetened with Stevia, the taste is something you have to try for yourself.
My question: How can you say this is real food? It sounds like a protein drink just like any other, lots of fillers and inexpensive ingredients which do raise the fiber and protein, but are not quality ingredients.
KathEats says
I never claimed that Vega was 100% whole, real food. But it passes my ingredient list requirements. And it’s also not something I rely on for nutrition – I use it mostly for taste.
Maria says
Thanks for the reply. I hope other readers are not confused by the inclusion of this product on your site.
I would use 100% cocoa powder, less expensive and no fillers. Perhaps this would not give exactly the flavor you are looking for, but it seems heathier to me.
Full Disclosure: I have no financial interest in any products, but I have become concerned about how easy it is to misunderstand endorsements. This site seemed so genuine that I wanted clarification. Thank you for doing so.

My mind is always in the gutter, and adult dinner party sounds dirty to me. Yes, I’m 12. *giggle*
