Does eating oatmeal next to a 200 year old desk make one wiser?
I wouldn’t know because I took my bowl to the couch to enjoy : )
This simpleton bowl contained just the basics – I even left out the chia seeds and was amazed at the difference in texture. It was much more liquidy and soupy than with the seeds.
- 1/3 cup oats
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1/2 cup water
- A few raisins
- Pinch salt
- Half banana
- Spoonful Sunbutter
I haven’t exercised in 3 days because of my illness, so I’m hoping to get in something energizing this morning. It’s kind of a catch 22: you don’t want to exercise because you don’t feel well but not exercising makes you feel worse. Thankfully I feel up to it today – still going to take it easy.
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
Are all of these green kitchen items new? I’m loving them! Happy Thursday!
KathEats says
Towel yes, bowl no : )
Nikki T says
Love the towel! Where is it from??
KathEats says
Target!
Krissy @ Shiawase Life says
Feel better, Kath! 🙂
I know what you mean about the sickness/exercise catch-22! Endorphins are so amazing.
Khushboo says
Perhaps a gentle walk will do just the trick? Hope so!
Daniel says
I know exactly how it is when you wanna work out but you can´t and then you feel even worse. I had 2 surgeries in a row and my body felt so weak after it. I wanted to go back to my normal working out schedule asap, but if you push too hard and your body is not ready, you gonna make it even worse. So my tip, enjoy your delicious food and cure the symptoms of your sickness completely. And when you feel like 100% again, just run a mile more for a week 😉 …. Happy Thursday and greetings from Germany
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
Feel better!! 🙂
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Wow, love the colour coordination this morning Kath! I hope you’re feeling well again soon!
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
I’ve only exercised 1 of the past 5 days and I haven’t been sick. Oops. Making it a point to get back on track today too 🙂
kathleen @ the daily crumb says
your oatmeal does look totally different today! amazing what some chias will do.
feel better 🙂
Allie@LiveLaughEat says
Exercise always ALWAYS makes me feel better, even when I’m in the middle stages of my sickness. Not sure why, but it’s always been like that. I hope it works for you too! Get well soon.
Maria @ Sinfully Nutritious says
Sounds like you are really listening to your body. Healing is so much easier and faster when we take the time to actually let our bodies talk and we listen.
Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning says
I exercise if I’m sick from the neck up, but not if I am from the neck down. It’s hard to take a break sometimes when exercise is just part of your daily routine, but I guess it’s nature’s way of telling you to rest! Hopefully you’ll be back to your old (Younger) self by the weekend. 😉
Jen says
Love those green walls – and bowl! Simple bowls are the best. My grandmother used to make a thick, soupy bowl of oats with a little butter and salt. That’s all that was needed. Take it easy with working out. I rolled my ankle a week ago and it’s rough not doing anything but not having much choice either.
Emily @LivingLongfellow says
Ease into the workout today, walk or indoor bike. Its surprising how hard it is after you have been sick.
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
That’s an amazing desk – I’d love to know all the places/homes old classic pieces have been.
Catherine says
OMG – tried the crunchy Barney’s Butter that I bought on Open Sky. I have to figure out how to keep myself from eating the whole jar at work today. Absolutely delicious! I do hope you get the Wild Squirrel brand back on Open Sky sometime soon, as that is on my wishlist.
Have a great day!
KathEats says
🙂
Angela says
I also bought the Barney Butters! I find myself looking for every fruit/vegetable that could be dipped just to justify it as “healthy” but I dont think eating that much almond butter is healthy!!
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
i LOVE that green bowl! (my favorite color) i know what you mean about exercising when sick – it sure is a catch 22. hope you enjoy your workout today!
Catherine says
p.s. – the picture on my email is of my cat…certainly a distant relative of El Tigre!
The Mrs @ Success Along the Weigh says
Okay, I must be the only freak who exercises when they’re sick. It’s the only time I feel better and can actually breathe.
Hillary says
I felt the same way on Monday: didn’t want to exercise because my cold left me feeling so nasty; didn’t want to NOT exercise because I knew I would just feel sluggish. I went to the gym for a light workout and, as my dad always tells me, something is better than nothing!
Judith says
Jum Jum Jum 🙂
Hope you feel better (beterschap!)
Love your blog!!!
Kristen @ Change of Pace says
Your oatmeal always looks so fluffy! Mine always looks like it would be called gruel haha. Yay for feeling better before the weekend!
Kinley @ Better Off Barefoot says
Desk=awesome photo background!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
Hope you feel better! I like to wait until I’m not absolutely miserable and then try to get an easy workout in to sweat out some of the “ick.”
Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says
Snow…snow…snow. Big fluffy flakes were falling on my run today…beautiful! Dog walking today is going to be a bit messy. I love the green edging on the tea towel…the detail really makes it stand out. I usually opt for a nice brisk walk when I am a little under the weather…getting outside in the fresh air and getting the endorphines going helps to boost my spirits and energy level.
Rebecca @ Naturally Healthy and Gorgeous says
I always add chia seeds because it bumps up the volume!
Bee Goes Bananas says
Isn’t it funny how we have to take our photos in the places with the best lighting, but then take them to another spot to eat? The best lighting in my apartment is on the floor in front of our balcony doors…so moving after photos is a good idea! Unless you enjoy eating on the floor.
Hannah @ eat, drink, and save money says
Glad you are feeling better!
Em (WIne and Butter) says
Defo take it easy lady!!
I get SO bored when sick, but I think forcing myself on all sorts of dumb hikes over xmas made my illness linger for SO much longer. I could NOT shift it – and I hardly ever get sick… Do what I did in the end and stay in bed, harnessing your inner OCD by planning your workouts for the next 5 months.
Much better long term and you get to feel productive! 🙂
Alex says
Those chairs are so great! Did you paint them yourself?
KathEats says
Thanks!! My grandmother did – they are Shakespeare and Dickens 🙂
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
Awesome bowl! Feel better 🙂
Hilliary @Happily Ever Healthy says
I am now addicted to overnight oats with chia seeds! I can see why everyone is crazy over them! But I have missed my warm oats, maybe that will have to be tomorrows breakfast!
Emily says
Ugh. Definitely a catch 22. I don’t understand people who don’t feel like working out makes them feel good!
Cait's Plate says
I had the same struggle when I was feeling under the weather…to exercise or not to exercise. I’ve tried to just do little things to slowly get back into it and that seems to have been okay. Hopefully it helps you to feel better!
~Christy @ wonderofallthings says
Good luck with the exercise today — you’re right, you’ve gotta move some to get things moving, but balance is key. Sounds like you’ve got a good balance in mind. Here’s to hoping you feel better soon!!! 🙂
Ellie@Fit for the Soul says
I hope and pray you get better super fast! I know what you mean by the irony. So I guess even though you shouldn’t go all out, you should still do something, right? 🙂 And chia seeds/flax are the best for velvety oatmeal <3
Heather H @ Run Eat Play says
I still hav tried chia seeds – are they crunchy? Weird tasting? Hope you feel better soon!
KathEats says
They aren’t crunchy (unless you eat them raw). They get all gelled like bubble tea and provide nutrition and volume to all kinds of things
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
that’s very true – when I’m not feeling great, not exercising actually makes me feel worse!
Andrea @FrSeed2Stomach says
yoga always makes me feel better. seems like the perfect gentle work-out to help you kick the funk! get well soon!
emily says
Hope you feel all the way better soon!
Lindsay @ Salt, Sun & Sanity says
Rest up! You’re body needs it’s energy to fight off whatever you have. Feel better soon!
Chris says
Feel better soon darlin!Did no one else notice the adorable painted bentwood chairs next to the “aged” desk? Is that Shakespeare? ps – I had my leftover butternut/kale salad for lunch with a hard boiled egg thrown on top. Nothing stands up to a leftover salad like kale 🙂
KathEats says
Yes, Shakespeare!!
Jill says
Glad you’re feeling better.
Angela @ Happy Fit Mama says
Loving the green lately. I must be hoping for spring!
Sometimes a bare bones bowl of oats is what the body needs and it tastes fabulous!
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
I love easy, basic b-fast meals. Looks yumm!
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
The chairs in the first photo with the faces on the seats….very cute! You find such unique one-of-a-kind pieces and I love that you have unique gems scattered throughout your house.
And that you’re not afraid to use a bold color like green! I confess, I am more white, beige, brown, tan, gray, etc..no bold colors here. Not yet anyway 🙂
mari says
I’m totally in the same boat as you..ive had a head cold since Monday but I’m itching.to workout. I did an easy 3 mile walk yesterday but I really want to do my weight training today. Think I’m gonna go.for it, just wash my handsalot and use lots of anti-bacterial hand stuff!
Dee says
Hope you feel better soon!
Angel7 says
Do chia seeds soak up the liquid?
http://faithfulsolutions.blogspot.com/
KathEats says
Yes, they do – and they make it creamier instead of liquidier
Kelly @ Vegolosophy says
That is a beautiful desk! And love all the matching colors! Feel better soon 🙂
Lexi @ Cura Personalis Foodie says
Hope you feel better! I always forget to make my oatmeal with chia seeds, so I’ve gotten used to that more “watery” texture.
Kathy W. says
comforting old skool oats 🙂
Logan says
I think your grandmother is cool! What neat things she has given to you to carry on her name! I have a lot of things from both of my grandmothers and I treasure them, but nothing like what you have. Those chairs are great!
Rebecca says
Wooow. I want to pin your breakfast spot. Really, I love the vintage desk and the color of your walls!! And I’m with you on the sickness-exercise dilemma. After a week and a half of a bad cold, I was SO ready to MOVE!
[New Balance] Nicole says
Cute desk! And that oatmeal looks delicious, I think I will make it for breakfast tomorrow!
