What an adventure that was!!
Matt and I absolutely love:
- Biking
- Wine tasting
- Multi-course dinners
- Outdoor dining
- Live music
And we conquered all of ’em!
We set out on our biking adventure just after lunch. We’re about 4.5 miles to the mall and decided to do some shopping. We took the long way!
Our MOM’S both sent us some $$ for spring clothes shopping!! THANKS MOMS! [And Lillian!]
Once there, we hit up Banana Republic, J Crew and GAP.
- J Crew clothes fit OK in the butt but were too big in the waist
- Banana clothes fit me well in the waist but were too tight in the butt
- GAP shorts are on sale 30% off and fit well!!
I got 3 pairs, including my first ever "long" shorts. They looked cute instead of frumpy!
Matt got 3 polo shirts at Banana with a gift card he had from Xmas
Next stop: BATHING SUITS
How many years has it been since I’ve put on a one-piece? Maybe 20!?
After figuring out my size (what does 34 vs. 36 mean?! Your length!?) I finally settled on a TYR. The Speedos were awful, and NIKE and Reebock were flopping off of my body and revealing way too much. This one suited me – heh heh 😉 One pieces are SO WEIRD to put on!
Back on the bike around 5:00!
Don’t try this at home: we took the long way again along one of my favorite neighborhoods
Photographer
We arrived safe and sound to the next shopping center – with a STOWAWAY!
Our destination was Brixx Pizza – a classic and old favorite. I was ready for a beer sampler!
HOWEVER, we stumbled upon an extensive wine tasting at the Foxcroft Wine Bar!
Must.Seize.The.Moment.
We sampled about 10 wines – all were excellent!! Matt and I <3 wine tasting together. We did honeymoon in Sonoma after all!
After realizing that the wine bar had a food menu, we changed our plans and decided we were in a wine mood and would have dinner there.
I ordered a taste pour of a chard and he got a pinot gris. Both were excellent. We were thrilled to be seated outside within earshot of live music!
Hydration:
For appetizers we ordered a beef + barley soup
And the hummus platter
The red onions were promptly removed from my couscous! But the hummus and pita were awesome. TONS of flava!!
For my entree I ordered a blue cheese + walnut salad topped with a crabcake.
Wish the salad had been bigger, and when I ordered I had that feeling that something was wrong – forgot to order the dressing on the side!! I don’t really like salad dressings very much…
…But the crab cake was excellent!!!! Just like they make them in Maryland
Matt got a chorizo and avocado and tomato and prosciutto pasta that he thought was just OK. It was pretty high in oil…
And how did we end up with more wine!?!?!?
I got a red blend – CLIFF in honor of my dad – and Matt got a Zin from Sonoma. His was better. We had assumed he knew to bring us the TASTE portions but we ended up with full glasses. Hate it when that happens!!
Still ended up drinking my full glass….which resulted in hiccups for our whole bike ride home

Good choice with the TYR, I have found the fabric from which they are constructed to outlast both Nike and Speedo suits. Yes the fit is superior in the beginning. I think you will be pleased. Have a wonderful free weekend.
Jin says
Kath, you are GLOWING! You look absolutely gorgeous.
TYR is a trusty brand for swim suits. As ri’chele mentioned, my speedo didn’t last as long as TYR.
Kath says
THANKS!!
Mrs. Money says
Yes, you look fabulous! And I love your bathing suit shots- you are so brave!
Kath says
Thansk :)(
Kath says
Oh goodness – typo!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Wow, what a great afternoon! I need one of those with my husband soon! He has been slammed with work so he has been tied to his chair and drawing for 5 days straight. Good thing is he has work, bad thing is, he needs some fresh air! Anyway, looks like a very nice way to start the weekend! Enjoy your evening together!
Camille says
All the food looks wonderful tonight!
One pieces are sooo weird! Hope you are indoor swimming, otherwise, be prepared for the epic swimmer’s tan line!
Have a great night!
Heather says
I love that you have your socks on in the swimsuit photos. I don’t know why, but it made me smile.
Kath says
I almost left my tennis shoes on too!!
Greta says
I love all those things too! … And especially how the biking factor kinda-sorta cancels out the gluttony 😉 What a great start to the weekend, cheers!
Veggielady4life says
It’s always nice when what fits the best is also on sale… I’m a fan of Gap shorts, too!
Love the little green visitor you picked up on the way! 🙂
kelli says
You look so great in your suit!! And you look so happy 😀 Gotta love real food <3
Kath says
Thanks 🙂
Erin (Travel, Eat, Repeat) says
This sounds like such a lovely spring evening! I love that it’s warm enough now to sit outside on the patio and light at night to really enjoy the evening. 😀
Cynthia (It All Changes) says
I’ve actually had to send salads back when I forget to order with dressing on the side because if I have too much the sugar in the dressing will make me sick.
But looks like a fun day! Bike riding is the best way to see the town.
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
Sounds like SO much fun Kath! You are cracking me up with those suit photos. Glad you found one though!
theemptynutjar says

and i like the “barney butter ” shirt.
RhodeyGirl says
DIDN’T ANYONE TEACH YOU NOT TO DRINK AND BIKE?!? 😉
Megan (The Runner's Kitchen) says
I love hummus + pita platters from restaurants. Perhaps my fav thing to order as an appetizer 🙂 Hooray for new spring clothes!!
RhodeyGirl says
P.S.er…. You look freaking awesome! So fit and toned! Go Kath!
Kim says
You look great in your swimsuit, good choice!
I have had good luck with TYR and Nike suits, also I’ve found a few TYR swimsuits at Marshalls.
laine says
What an awesome fun time!! I can’t wait until your outdoor dining posts are back for the summer! Those always look so fun.
Sarah R says
What a wonderful way to start the weekend!! Love that you can bike to so many places too. Enjoy the weekend!
Meghan@traveleatlove says
Mmmm Sonoma Zin! Must go open a bottle now. . . Zichichi is my current fave 🙂
ri'chele says
Kath you are so inspiring. I look forward to your swimming posts. You are already such a strong swimmer, what a great place to restart swimming. I have found I object less to being wet the more time I devote to the pool. As a fellow former lifeguard you will learn to love it as you stated on your first swimming post.
jenna says
dinner looks great!
Allie (Live Laugh Eat) says
Hahahhaa love that facial expression (you know which photo!!). My favorite place to find one-pieces (although I too haven’t purchased one in years) is TJ Maxx/Marshalls…they have all the top brands but for super cheap.
Lauren @ eater not a runner says
Oh man I haven’t put on a one piece since my swim team days! I do NOT miss them!
Jenn (www. j3nn.net ) says
Your dinner looks great! I love salad dressing, I especially like it tossed all over the leafy greens as much as possible. 🙂

Jessica @ How Sweet It Is says
WHat a great evening. 🙂 That soup looks fabulous!
Ann @ Appalachian Appetites says
Looks like the perfect day! Congrats on having such happiness 🙂
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
fun fun fun! i don’t really swim so i usually wear bikinis that remain covered the entire time, but when i do swim i like wearing one-pieces so i can dive, flip, etc.
Nicole says
I just want to say that I’ve been following your blog for over a year now and you truly are a role model to me. I have struggled with anorexia for 4 years and do have my high and very low points. From reading your blog, I realized that it’s ok to indulge at times and what well balanced meals look like. I hope to one day become an RD as well as meet you. I know that you probably get tons of e-mails and comments and don’t respond to all of them but I honestly hope to hear from you. Also, how do u get companies to send you healthy food samples? I need some connections girlie! Your the best, God Bless, Nicole
Kath says
Thanks Nicole. Glad it’s been helpful!
Mastering Public Health says
Great post; love that, judging by the pics, you were definitely in a Friday mood!
Allison says
I love that even though you’re all grown up, some family member is always sending you (or your bears) fun money! I think maybe I’ll have my mom and grandmothers start reading your blog and maybe they’ll catch a hint 🙂
Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] says
What a fun Friday date! Your app + salad entrée are right up my alley. Guess it was a good thing ya’ll biked to dinner ; )
Marla says
How many of us would consider posting a pic of ourselves trying on a bathing suit?
Never in a million years would I….unless my body looked like YOURS-then I’d flaunt it for sure 😉
Heather @ Side of Sneakers says
What a fun packed day!! I love TYR suits- they definitely fit the best & are the most comfortable!!
Shauna says
Kath, whats the name of your bike? Thanks 🙂
Kath says
It’s a Dahon folding bike.
Ash Bear says
I love the suit pics! TYR are the best suits i’ve found as well. I love that you guys bike around. Bo really wants to get bikes for the city but i’m scared of riding in the city. Have a great weekend!
Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter says
Looks like a super fun day.
I haven’t put on a one-piece in forever!! Well not since I stopped diving (thank goodness!)
Casey says
I hot some Gap shorts today too!!!
Stacey@http://stacey-healthylife.blogspot.com/ says
Looks like a fun afternoon / evening with your husband.
Love the barney butter shirt, too funny 🙂 🙂 🙂
Sabina says
When shopping for pants, make sure they fit in the thigh/butt area. If the waist is too large, it’s not major surgery to have it taken in.
Sadly, I’m blessed with a non-standard body and have to have most of my stuff tailored (mostly pants – bless my short legs). A hassle, but it means that I look at clothes in a different way – practically anything (even bras; I’ve had that done!) can be altered. 🙂
Hannah says
What a lovely, lovely impromptu date afternoon/evening! Also love how the shopping story is like the shorts version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears… “and the last shorts were juuuuuuuuust right” 😀
Jil @ Peace, Love & Munchies says
The weirdest thing with one-pieces is that whole after you’ve been in the water and now you have to peel off this awkwardly suction-y article of clothing…haha I saw Angela got that brand, too – I’m going to have to look for that around here.
Chelsea (Chelsea's Chew and Run Fun) says
What a wonderful way to spend a Friday! Your post reminded me that it’s time to invest n a one-piece bathing suit again…a task I’m dreading with all of my might. One-piece bathing suits are not made for short ladies with big busts such as myself. Oh well, there’s got to be a brand out there to “suit” me as well.
Your dinner looks amazing! Both of you ordered some awesome appetizers/dishes.
Kath says
Or myself! I had major bust troubles until I got to the TYRs
Sam says
I really enjoy getting to see you two..not just your food in your blogs. Matt is such a patootie! And you look like pure health!
Lisa says
What a fun event! I love wine tasting! 🙂
Michele says
I love that suit!
FYI, 34, 39, 32 all mean the bust size on the suit.
I agree, speedo’s aren’t as great as they say they are.
Freya @ Brit Chick Runs says
Kath you have such a great figure!! BRAVE woman posting a swimming costume photo on the web 😛
are those maybe European sizes (35, 36 etc?)? Alot of the costumes here are listed in them,
Glad you had fun!
Wei-Wei says
Fabulous swimsuit… looking good, Kath! 😉

Anne @ Food Loving Polar Bear says
I haven’t had a one piece on in years and would NOT be brave enough to post a pic if I ever try one again, BUT you have an amazng figure and you should be proud to show it! 🙂
Simply Life says
Oh what a fun day! 🙂
Cara says
Kath! That’s the same suit I got when I had to buy a one piece! I think it’s pretty dead sexy if you ask me…
Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) says
My friend gave me a TYR that didn’t fit her (never worn) and I love it! I don’t wear it often, but I know I’ll have it if I ever get into triathalons 😛 And it’s super comfy!
I love biking around everywhere!
xo

Shawna @ Balancing Me says
Wow, what a wonderful afternoon!!! Looks like you guys had a great time. I love the goofy shots of you swimming in the suit. 🙂
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) says
SO. Much. FUN! 😀
And I love the stowaway pic…too cute.
Thanks for the heads up about the GAP shorts…I have hard time finding shorts that fit well around the butt and waist, so I’ll definitely be checking these out. 😀
Amy says
Just wanted to add .. the suit size is typically the size of your bra. You always want the suit to be snug when you buy it, because it will stretch/expand the more you wear it. Make sure you wash you suit with fresh water after swimming … it will help make the suit last longer.
Sydney says
Actually, competitive swim suits come in European sizes. That’s why they are kinda funny! Glad to hear you’re getting interested in swimming. I’ve been swimming my whole life and am currently finishing up my 4th year swimming in college. It’s really amazing exercise and I hope you learn to really love it!
Heather says
sounds like a fun time! How lucky your moms send you money for clothes!
Kath says
Thanks for your nice comments!!
Tonyne @ Unlikely Success Story says
Sounds like a fantastic evening! 🙂
Kathleen says
What a fun night! You guys are such a cute couple and after years of reading, I still can’t get enough of how adorable and loving and kind you are with each other…
When I read about the numbers for the suit…are those for like around your chest like with a bra? or are they really length?
Kath says
🙂 Thanks!
Bec says
I need to get a new TRY athletic suit soon, those are my least fav bathing suits to shop for! It sounds like you and Matt has a great little date, have a fantastic weekend too 🙂
Lauren says
What a wonderful date night!! I’ve seriously got to dust off my old Huffy and taker ‘er for a spin 😉
Amanda says
Trust me, one piece suits feel even weirder when you’ve already done some swimming and “nature calls”. There’s been a few times I’ve nearly fallen over in a restroom stall trying to get my suit down, and then un-scrunched and back up.
jessica says
Kath you look stunning!! Real Food does a body good 🙂
Eileen says
What a GREAT day/evening! Those are most of my passions, too.
You’re *almost* inspiring me to go for a swim soon. I have a big running race in eight days, and I’m planning on taking a little break from running after that. I’ve been thinking biking + yoga, but I know it would be sooooo good for me to add in a little swimming.
Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life says
That looks like such a FUN evening! I LOVE going wine tasting with the hubby too 🙂
Erin says
Hi Kath! I swam in high school and college and am pretty sure the numbers (34, 36) relate to your torso length. I’ve never heard the bust size thing, but maybe that’s included in there somehow.
Cates says
Kath, I think I saw in another post that you bought goggles…what kind did you buy?
Thanks!
