Good morning from home sweet home!!
Spring sprung while we were gone. Since this is our first April in our new yard, it’s extra exciting to see the colors pop out of the bushes!
We spent all day yesterday traveling home from BHI. We split the trip into two 3.25 hour legs with a stop at Grammie and Pea’s. We snacked on crunchy chickpeas, pretzels, peanuts, pear, sardines (at home, not in the car!), and wheat thins during the journey.
Back in Cville, we were SO excited to see Daddy again!!! We missed him so much.
He went grocery shopping and made an asparagus and bacon quiche for our homecoming!
I have definitely put on some lbs, and this trip didn’t help. I have always said that it’s easier to add than subtract, so rather than go into a period of deprivation, I’m planning to add all the good stuff back into my life. And I can’t tell you how much I am craving it all! I want to do some meal prep to have the most nutrient dense, light and flavorful meals and snacks around for the next few weeks. Although I have a party weekend coming up that I have to jump through first, hold me to this on Monday morning!
I started out with a breakfast of fresh fruit, 2% Greek yogurt and lightly buttered toast on the side. Two cups of decaf!
I asked Mazen this morning how it was sleeping in his bed again and if he missed his bunk room. His reply: “I miss my bunk bed, but I really miss Grammie and Pea.”

Thanks for sharing little tidbits of your quest to find balance with your weight! It is so hard when there are lots of social events and fun parties to attend. Finding the balance between not feeling deprived and still enjoying food at social events vs. constantly overindulging is something I’m going through right now!

I agree! It is definitely easier to add on than subtract! I really like how you said you are not going to go into a period of deprivation, but rather just add the good stuff back in. I think sometimes people think if they have gained some weight they have to put themselves through drastic measures to lose the weight – which is not always the case! Thanks for sharing.
P.S. – The trees and flowers in your yard are beautiful!

When it comes to weight loss, do you have a body weight set in mind as a “goal weight” or do you simply go by how clothes feel? Just curious- it’s interesting to see how others determine when it’s time to dial it back.
KathEats says
It’s mostly about how my body feels (and related, looks) and how my clothes fit. I dont’ weigh myself regularly, but I probably should!
Kate says
I get that- I tend to feel a little run down when not eating my best. I agree with the commenter below, however, that you look very strong & fit!

I’m totally with you on adding some things back into my diet. I was sick two weeks ago and it was a struggle to eat anything, and was traveling this week and splurged a little (and didn’t work out as much). I’m planning on adding in some green juice and green smoothies, and focusing on fresh foods! Now I’m going back to read your add not subtract post again 😉
Livi @ Eat, Pray, Work It Out says
I always find adding more veggies in helps me eat less “bad” stuff- there’s just not room in the day!

Spring definitely has sprung! Love the vibrant flowers! I wish I could say the same here in Toronto, where it snowed this morning, keeping my fingers crossed that spring will be here by Monday!

How sweet. Mazen is blessed to have such loving grandparents.
Kath, you are beautiful and fit and strong. Throw that scale away and just love yourself as is. 🙂

…my thoughts exactly. Ahhh, in the end, fretting re. those 5 – 10 pounds over and over again is such a waste of mental energy that keeps you stuck in a pattern of self-loathing. You are perfect – strong, fit, non-emaciated young woman. Just enjoy life. xo

Kath, Let me first say, love your blog! I’ve been reading for several years now. Question (unfortunately, unrelated to this or any recent post other than beach vacationing . . .): We have a 3.5 year old and a spunky 11 mo old. We are going to visit the beach in GA in early June (making my little guy 12.5 months when we go). Any recommendations (products, strategies, etc.) for being able to play on the beach and enjoy yourself while corralling an almost 13 month old? You seem to have a long history of vacationing at the beach successfully! Thanks!

You’re in luck – I have a whole post on the topic over at Baby KERF : ) It includes links to our first few visits, one of which was at 12.5 months!

Don’t worry, honey! It’s not even about reaching a goal, and you’ll get back on track in no time!

I’m craving lots of grilled veggies, a quinoa salad, homemade hummus and some homemade snack balls. We’ll see how much I get done -it’s a busy weekend!

Kath, you’re eats are always super clean and colorful! And you make them all look so good. If I took a picture of toast, it’d be like – blahh. Haha!
