My backside is S.O.R.E. this morning!! That conditioning class was full of squats and lunges and I couldn’t wait to stretch out this morning. I did yoga by candlelight before the sunrise this morning – Yogadownload’s Gentle Hatha I. According to the description for restorative yoga, it is “synonymous to active relaxation.” I love that!
Next on the schedule was breakfast. Including a craving for coffee! I decided to do French press today. I hope I did it right! I think I had the water too hot, but the coffee turned out great once it cooled. We’ll see if my sleeping is affected tonight. I feel a little buzzed at the moment 😉
Today’s Mix:
- 1/3 cup oats, 1% milk, water, tiny banana, pinch salt
- 2 dried figs, chopped
- 1 tbsp wheatberries
- Small handful sugared peanuts, chopped
- ~ 7 butterscotch chips
- ~1 tsp coconut butter flakes
- ~1 tbsp spoonful Barney Butter
Fabulous!
A nice chandelier!

Oh She Glows is giving away some Honest Foods products!! Love those 🙂
I’m off to tackle my list, which is exceptionally long today. At least I have sunshine and blue skies to do it with me!

I also have a french press but I haven’t quite mastered using it. How much coffee and water did you use? Thanks!
Nicole says
Kath, I am SO jealous of your sunshine and blue skies! It’s downright DREARY over here! It makes getting up and walking to the gym a super hard task.
French press! Love it.
Erin says
Your “chandelier coffee” Has a chandelier in it! I just go that! Hahahaha
It’s snowing in NJ!
Have a great day!
Betsy in Pgh says
My bf uses a French Press for his coffee every day and I’ve shattered the glass part twice trying to clean it. Now I stay away!
Oh She Glows says
Those classes can be killer…my glutes/quads/hamstrings often hurt for a couple days after them. Yoga should help with that!
Have a great ‘no school’ day! Thanks for the PSA…hehe

Kath I would love to hear about the things you learn in your classes. could you possibly do a tidbit for the day? or something like that regarding what you are learning? it will prob help with your studying!
Kelsey says
This morning I made oatmeal with toasted walnuts in the micro like you do, for a minute and a half. It smelled and tasted like popcorn. :/
Should I cook it less? Has this happened to anyone?
Marie says
Your meals always look so tasty & I get some great recipe ideas from you!
But I have a question for you: I looked up the nutritional information on the coconut butter and saw that it is high in saturated fat and high in “regular” fat even though it has no cholesterol. (I’m watching my intake on that). So aren’t you worried about the high saturated fat content? I keep reading that high saturated fat content is bad for cholesterol even though the product might have zero cholesterol. I’m confused.

You make oats look more delicious than a piece of cake. You should be a traveling oats saleswoman.

Your oats look like a beautiful dessert! YUM!

Hi Kath,
Did you start doing yoga via the downloads or have you done yoga in a class setting before doing it on your own? I really want to try the yoga downloads, but am a little apprehensive because I have never practiced yoga before.

Don’t you love french press coffee? It’s so nice to be able to make one good cup of coffee at a time.
We have one that is “unbreakable” or so it says. I have dropped it on the counter already and it’s fine! We’ll see how long it lasts 🙂
Mara says
Looks like great oats and coffee!!
Just make sure your water is ALMOST boiling (like, 190) and let it sit about 4 minutes before pressing. Thats how Starbucks taught us to do it!
marisa says
hey kath, i might be crazy…but do i recall you mentioning an online to-do list you use?? if so, which one do you recommend? thanks!

Yoga by candlelight in the morning…sounds AWESOME!
Allison K says
I have that same french press! only I think the bigger size.
JSR- You should use two tablespoons of coffee for every six ounces of water.
The other day I was watching the Today show, and there were a bunch of people congregrated outside of the studio like there always is, but a big group of them had Quaker Oat signs and hats! Oat Love is everywhere!

Kath-
You’ve inspired me to get a french press this weekend! I used to have one and loved it. What kind of coffee do you like to use? Love the breakfast, I ordered all of the ingrediants for oatmeals ‘delights’ so I can start enjoying on Monday!!

I just got back from hot yoga-what a great feeling on a freezing day where I am.
I know you are a busy gal Kath, but I have to admit I wish I had Tues and Thurs “off” and the weekend!(Don’t worry I know you are studying etc on your “off ” days!)I am still jealous nonetheless. I think it may be when one’ school days are over, some of us dream of a freer schedule…..sigh!
all the best!

I’m so intrigued by your coffee/sleep issues. You have it so early in the morning; shouldn’t it leave your system by night time? Maybe you are just REALLY sensitive to caffeine…
Shelby says
I want those oats.
Ruby Red Vegan says
Good morning, Kath! Your oatmeal concoction this morning looks absolutely wonderful! I am lovin’ the dried figs/sugared peanuts combo. And thanks for pointing out the Honest Foods giveaway — I still haven’t tried their products!
Since I saw that you have your own french press, I wanted to give you a link to an amaaaazing french press tutorial for perfecto coffee, from the Stumptown coffee experts: http://stumptowncoffee.com/guides

I loved my french press until I discovered the Aeropress. Have you heard of this crazy device? I love it! Search Amazon.com for aeropress and read those reviews, it’s amazing.
That barney butter reminds me, I never got my winning chunky barney butter! Wasn’t the lady from Barney Butter supposed to send those prizes?
Sarah (lovINmytummy) says
Great oats again. You make me realize I need to expand the yumminess of my toppings!
Hope you get all your to-dos to-done!
Heather says
I’ve always wanted to try out a french press. Does the coffee really taste that much better? I’d be curious to compare french press vs. automatic.
Good luck with all of your to-do’s today!
megan says
jatem – how about something mexican? enchiladas and spanish rice, or italian – lasagna or stuffed shells. I’ve done both for company and since the main dish is baked it’s not that stressful. good luck!
Katelyn says
Yum, French Press coffee, I’m making some right now while I study!
And, the butterscotch oatmeal has been looking soooooo good! That’s one of my fav. cookie combos, so I need to try throwing some into cooked oats sometime.
Marissa says
What a relaxing idea to do yoga by candle light!
runjess says
French presses make stronger coffee. I hear it tastes better too, but it’s a bit too much work for me.
Biz says
I like having my french press as a back up – especially when I am in the mood for flavored coffee and everyone else wants french roast!
I recently bought 8 o’clock coffee beans and we LOVE IT! I couldn’t bear paying $18 for Starbucks at Sam’s club, and this one was half the price!
kristen says
I’ve been looking through your posts and I love the peanut butter on the spoon idea to get a little bit with each bite. I actually had the same this morning and I like to mix a little pumpkin butter in too, yum!

Those oats look delish! I love butterscotch. 🙂
Oh, I’m off to enter that contest. Yum-O!

Mmm, the Barney Butter looks extra good this morning!
Kath says
jsr ,
I filled the whole glass thing up with water and just dumped probably 3-4 tbsp of coffee – which I am sure is not the right amounts!
Kelsey ,
Do you mean just toasted the walnuts in the microwave? Because I don’t make my oats in there!! Toasted walnuts should smell fragrant – maybe stick to 60 seconds if they were almost burned?
Marie ,
If I were eating the coconut butter by the cupful, perhaps, but I have literally about half a tsp on my oats! Since I eat a diet with very little saturated fat on a regular basis, I am not concerned the slightest about some from a tiny bit of coconut butter.
DaisyMay ,
That’s a good idea – I will try to remember! Remind me if you don’t see any on Mondays and Wednesdays.
elv ,
I have done a few classes in my life, but YogaDownload is not only FREE (so you have nothing to use) but I find the beginning level ones to be very easy. You can search by level to find the beginner ones. Try Gentle Hatha I, and study the pose guide PDF first.
marisa ,
Yes, http://www.todoist.com
Mel
Yes, but I probably used too much coffee.
sara ,
I prefer flavored coffees, especially Fresh Market’s. I don’t like them burnt tasting or high acid.
BethT ,
I’ve read that caffeine takes 24 hours to clear your body, so it doesn’t surprise me.
Ruby Red Vegan
Thanks for the link!!
Nick ,
Ah-ha! You were the 10th person who did not email me and send me your address!! I only had 9 winners email me. If you send it to me I will see if Jennifer will send you your jar.
Heather ,
I didn’t think it was any better, and it was more of a mess/pain to deal with, so I’m not really hooked, but since our pot is broken, it’s my only option.
Kath

peanut butter, coffee, and butterscotch – a yummy combination
Hil says
I adore my French press…I think the coffee tastes so much better than drip. And with no paper filters, it’s much more environmentally friendly. Good luck with yours and give me a holler if you need to troubleshoot.
