My afternoon photo shoot was a blast! Sarah, talented photographer of Cramer Photo, has been capturing personalities of Charlottesville in a project called “The People Of Charlottesville.” I am honored to be one of them because I just love living here <3
Sarah and I were actually introduced by blog reader Molly, who lives in California! When Sarah asked me to come over for a shoot, I jumped at the opportunity. Such fun!! She is fast – the blog post is already up –
And here is the complete shoot. This is me, telling Sarah the story of my life, my blog, the bakery and more while she clicked away. She was so much fun, as you can probably tell from my expressions! I can’t choose a favorite, but I think #26 is up there!
Having just showered, I decided to take a day off from exercise and come home to work with Matt. We’re so close to choosing a contractor!
Dinner tonight was another recipe from the Happy Herbivore Cookbook! I’ve been chomping down Lindsey’s red lentil dal recipe for years, so when I read about this Kidney Bean Masala I knew I would love it. I was right! The spice profile was just outstanding – coriander with a bite, garam masala, chili powder, tomatoes – they worked so well with the beans!
We also sautéed some broccoli, which we topped with nutritional yeast, and served both over a mix of brown rice and wheatberries!
With dinner I had a splash of pale ale (the keg is now empty!) and a big smug mug of seltzer!
Goodnight!

How do you guys cook up brown rice, Kath? It’s always overcooked when I prepare it and I want to find that perfect balance.

2:1 water to rice on a low simmer for 25-30 mins

The bakery process has been very exciting to hear about!
I saw you mixed the wheat berries with your brown rice for lunch.
I have recently discovered Black and Red rice. Can you comment on them, nutritionally speaking? Just curious. I know black rice is supposed to be high in anti-oxidants like blueberries are. What about the Red? I had a hard time finding good solid info on this rice.
KathEats says
I think they are both whole grain varieties and would be good choices.
sarahMTSBB says
