And in front of me!
Good thing the ocean was at the end of that drive or I don’t think I would have made it!! 3 hours turned into nearly 4 with all the terrible traffic in this area. And my gosh that TUNNEL was so scary! I’m claustrophobic and had to take several deep breaths when thinking about all the water above me. The first two hours of the drive were ok, but the last one had my stretching and aching all over. Parking was also rather chaotic, but I’m here!!!
The other girls are on the way – there are 5 of us sharing this suite! The baby and I are on that nice fold out sofa in the back – room for 2 : )
I went to the gym for some lifting this morning and then stopped into the bakery, famished, to get a sandwich for the road.
Never go into a bakery with a huge sample board hungry!
The Red White & Blue was hot from the oven and amazing! I had two small slices in less than 3 minutes.
Pimento Cheese (a half thanks to the bread appetizer!) sandwich to go!
Just ate up some peach for an arrival snack – and will probably dig into these almonds before too long. Dinner isn’t until 7pm!
Our plans for the evening include drinks (for some
), dinner, and likely a Magic Mike showing so we’ll be out really late. I’m planning to post a recap tomorrow morning since it will probably be 3 hours past my bedtime by the time we get home : )Wild times ahead!

Have fun!! That Red White and Blue bread looks incredible…is that blueberries?
lynn @ the actor's diet says
so want to be on the beach today…but for some reason the west coast isn’t where my heart is – it’s on the east coast!
Lindsey @ Pas de Deux says
The drive to VA Beach is really terrible–there is ALWAYS traffic on 64! Have a fun night out with the girls 🙂
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
Have a great time tonight! And that bread looks so good!
Blessing says
That baby is going to love the beach when all is said and done LOL
Christine says
Welcome to Virginia Beach! If you arrived today, part of your traffic trouble was President Obama’s visit to the area (and, therefore, closure of major roadways causing crazy backups). Our tunnel is always a mess, though. Enjoy — should be a lovely beach weekend!

Just heard!
Erica { EricaDHouse.com } says
I live on the beach and even I’m jealous of that gorgeous view!

Hi Kath,
Random Charlottesville quesiton for you in the event that you’re not yet busy with beach fun! I’m attending a training course for work in Charlottesville for two weeks (and am looking forward to grabbing a sandwich at Great Harvest!), but I’d also like to try to swim in the evenings. I’ve read on here that you’ve been swimming for fitness, have you used any of Charlottesville’s indoor public pools? I just wondered if you knew how crowded they typically are or have any recommendations regarding which ones might be good bets. Thanks for your help!
Liz

The only pool I’ve been to is the one at ACAC, which is pretty nice. I think it’s $10 for visitors
Andrea @ The Skinny Chronicles says
Enjoy your weekend with the girls! I hope you survive on the pool out sofa. They should give you the comfier bed, I think. Hopefully you packed all your pillows!
KathEats says
I’m happy with it! More space 🙂

I slept on a hotel pullout when I was 25 weeks pregnant. It was so bad I paid for my own room the next night. Seriously…good luck. Try to get as many pillows as you can.
KathEats says
It’s only one night 🙂
Annette @FitnessPerks says
Ohhh what a fun sounding weekend! Enjoy the night together!
Jeri says
The President was here. SO the traffic was backed up all over. UGH! Even Va Beach Blvd was back up.
KathEats says
Oohhhhhhhhhhh – that explains all the police!! I wondered if that might be the case!
Susan Atkins says
If you’re gonna go see Magic Mike, go to Beach Movie Bistro off Laskin! It’s not nearly as crowded, they serve alcohol all throughout the movie (though not for you 🙁 just a wee bit longer), and it’s a very low-key vibe. Have fun!
Susan Atkins says
Also, if you need a quick food suggestion, Taste Unlimited is perfect for grab-and-go things for the road or beach. And an awesome girls-night-out/bachelorette-esque joint is Pacifica. It’s a tapas bar that is toooo good.
KathEats says
Taste!
KathEats says
Oh thanks!
Jeri says
Maybe I’ll see you in the morning. I am walking the boardwalk from one end to the other. Like 6 miles or so total. Well if it doesn’t rain and not too hot
KathEats says
I emailed you!
Jeri says
I just saw. YGM!
Averie @ Averie Cooks says
Glad you made it safe and sound…and wow, those pics look gorgeous….enjoy!!!

I don’t blame you for digging into that red, white and blue bread right away – I wouldn’t have been able to resist either!
Enjoy your night! Sounds like tons of fun 🙂
Danielle says
OMG! No one is giving up a bed for you and bambino???? Have fun either way (you are an awesome friend for going while 32 weeks pregnant!) but my back aches FOR you!
KathEats says
It was really fine – I promise! But they are insisting I sleep in the bed at this hour 🙂
Becky says
The tunnel is ALWAYS backed up. I have never yet driven to VA beach and not spent some quality time on either side, waiting to get through it.
Randy says
Looks like perfect weather at the beach for you. Have fun at the party, soon you will be able to again enjoy some good things to drink. The things from the bakery look sooo good and they look so well prepared. By the way, I think you and Matt should entertain then notion of adopting Pumpkin; seems like he has settled in anyway. 🙂
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
That Red White & Blue bread looks so yummy! So does that peach! 😉
Chelsea @ Chelsea's Lovelys says
Looks like you have an awesome view! And, do let us know how Magic Mike is… I’m still deciding whether or not to see it. 🙂
Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says
How fun! Enjoy yourself! I always look forward to a girls weekend getaway!
Emma says
Ahhhh I LOVE great harvest bread! There’s one a few blocks from where I live back home – if you ever are back you should try the cheddar garlic or apple scrapple (or both)! Have fun at the beach!
Laura @ She Eats Well says
Um that bread, fresh out of the oven…looks simply divine!!!
Molly @ RDexposed says
I remember being fearful of that tunnel, too!
5pky says
What kind of almonds are those?
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
Lunch looks yummy! Have fun!

Beautiful views of the ocean!
You have seen the ocean quite a bit this year. Do you normally frequent the beach each year — I recall you saying how much you love the beach?
http://faithfulsolutions.blogspot.com/
KathEats says
It’s a sad year if I don’t make it for a week trip (like last year when we were busy with the bakery) but this year we did!
Lexi @ You, Me, & A World to See says
That red, white, and blue looks gorgeous! Will other GH still be carrying that?
