So so cold!!! A few hours in 28* will do that to ya!!
Matt and I biked up to the lightrail after breakfast to head uptown for the Thunder Road Marathon hoping to see Sarah, Emily and Whit cross the finish line!!!
SOMEHOW I managed to capture all three on video!!!
Congrats to Michelle and Caitlin who finished the half marathon earlier!!!!!!!!!!!
My pants got caught in my bike gears 🙁
And it was quite cold waiting for the train!
iPhones do not work with gloves. Looks like I need to cut the thumbs off of a pair!
Brr!
We made it to the marathon finish at about 3:20 into the race. I checked Ghost World and knew Sarah would be crossing around 3:50. She was 2 minutes early!! Here she is with Josh!
I checked on Emily thanks to a Sprint laptop "family area" and knew we had a few minutes to kill before she was due to cross the finish (I added her 10K time to her 20 mile time 🙂 )
So we went to play with Great Harvest!!
Jeff and Janet were keeping warm with a space heater. It was for the bread too!! They handed out tons and tons of slice for all 3 races today
Matt helped out a bit
Marathon muffin?!
We went back to the finish line to watch Emily cross
Casey was there to cheer her on
At this point I was QUITE cold and my feet were completely numb!!
Until Whit crossed the finish, sisters in tow!
A bit later we met Sarah + Josh and headed to the Phat Burrito to fulfill Josh’s fish taco craving.
FROZEN SOLID
One Phat Burrito!
Matt’s fish burrito
I got this beau-tiful fish taco salad!
I managed to eat it all!!! It tasted so fresh and delish. There was mahi, black beans, lettuce, rice, cheese, cabbage and a huge tortilla.
Plus lots of salsa for dipping
Despite not running any miles myself this morning, my legs are feeling kind of tired! I guess because I was on my feet for a good 3 hours. And then bike ride home from the lightrail (1 mile) was SO COLD that I’m still in all of my outer gear inside.
The next bit of afternoon will be spent next to this with some hot tea. We still have all of our Xmas shopping to do and have to prepare for the party tonight. Not sure how much shopping is going to get done! Also not sure if we’re going to bike to Michelle + Ben’s (~2 miles) since it’s so frigid. We shall see how much Matt peer pressures me.

But Kath, WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO GET YOUR TREE?! I’ve been watching and waiting…Christmas is in 12 days! Will it be soon?
Kath says
Haha – I DON’T KNOW!!! Hopefully soon. But maybe not at all!! Sigh. Trees are a lot of work! And there are spiders in the Xmas ornament box… but we’ll see!
Fei Fei says
Wow! The burrito is HUGE! The restaurant certainly lived up to its name 😀 yummy…
Priscilla says
Hey, Kat. Check out these gloves for your iPhone woes. http://shop.freehands.com/
I don’t work for them or anything. haha.
Love your blog! You are such an inspiration.
Kath says
AWESOME! Those look nice too!
Food Makes Fun Fuel says
Congrats to them! that’s awesome. If I ever do a marathon, it’ll definitely be a summer one. And I love your Oikos hat!
Jenna says
phat burrito looks so good, fresh, and healthy!
have fun at the party 😉
Suzanne says
The North Face makes a pair of gloves with this special padding thing- they call it an e-tip- on index finger and thumb for touch screen usage so you never have to expose any of your hand to the cold. I just got my boyfriend a pair for Christmas, and am considering getting a pair for myself too. (I don’t work for them or endorse them either, I just tried his present on before wrapping it and they worked pretty well)
Megan says
Check these gloves out too! http://www.etretouchy.com/
A friend of mine blogged about them while ago, and I thought they looked kind of cool. 🙂
Diana says
Reading posts like these makes me wish I like to run! Maybe one day. That’s great you were able to catch all 3 on video!! Happy shopping! 🙂
Megan says
p.s. 28 degrees is lucky compared to what it was yesterday here — minus 15 degrees Celsius!! (10 degrees F) I’m from Canada, lol. Good thing I like winter.
Emily @ The Front Burner says
SO FUN to have you at the finish line! Thank you for braving the cold!! 🙂
Erin @ Big Girl Eats says
You’re such a good friend for being out there! Yay to the runners! Congrats!
Fish tacos = amazing.
Mama Pea says
You are so sweet to root everyone on in the cold! I don’t think I’d go out if my own mother was running and Great Harvest was giving out bars of gold!
Simply Life says
YUM! those tacos/burrito look amazing!
Jessica @ How Sweet It Is says
Looks like so much fun!
Ashley says
Oh my gosh, I just saw the comment someone left about iPhone gloves. That is nuts! haha Your video was so cute…Glad you enjoyed Phat Burrito!! mmmm
Whit says
KATH! Thank you SO MUCH for cheering us on! Haha, I look like the biggest video camera hog. Well it was a fabulous experience, and I FINISHED!!!
Wendy says
CONGRATS!!!! to all your friends finishing the marathon/half marathon! How awesome of you and Matt to go cheer them on!
You need warmer shoes for 28 degrees, my toes are freezing just looking at those pics! But you look adorable in your fleece & stocking hat. 🙂 That must be the same weather system that brought us single digit temps earlier this week here in MO.
Great Harvest served rolls at the finish line of my last half in Sept. I took a whole wheat one, but it didn’t taste very good at the time. 🙁 I need to try them again!
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
Brrr!!! Looks like a cold day, but it sounds like you had a great time! What a fun way to spend your Saturday. 🙂 That fish taco salad sounds amazing!
Quick question on the Bodem French Press… do you wash yours in the dishwasher? I know it says that you can, but I’m always wary about putting anything possibly breakable in there. How do you clean yours?
Kath says
Heather,
I don’t put it in the dishwasher only because I use it everyday and only use the dishwasher every 3-4 days. Otherwise I would.

Cynthia (It All Changes) says
Those temps are cold for here let alone down south.
How nice of you to cheer your friends on at the finish. I always look forward to seeing Hunni at the end of every race. He makes me smile after a race. 🙂
Anna says
I’ve been having the same problem with the iPhone these past two weeks with the colder weather – I think santa might be bringing me a pair of Dots Gloves for Christmas as my husband was asking me about them (http://www.dotsgloves.com/ – currently sold out). There’s also a review on gizmodo of some other sensor glove options: http://gizmodo.com/5156625/iphone-glove-battlemodo
I wish there was an option to answer a phone call without using the touch screen – I’ve been outside a lot moving stuff but phone calls keep coming in from my boss, so it would be great if I didn’t have to tug my glove off first to answer the call. Seeing your thumb only pic though was quite enlightening – I’m definitely going to have to try that – see if it’s any faster or at least less finger chilling!
Valerie (College Girl Eats) says
Kath, try these! www.tavoproducts.com/
Lee says
I loved watching them cross the finish line! I was also going to recommend the Tavo gloves. I just bought some for my dad.
Light Delight with TouTou says

I like that salad , very healthy 😀
Hillary @ Nutrition Nut on the Run says
That burrito looks out of this world good – the salad too…nom, nom, nom!
Kristen says
Aww congrats to everyone. What an accomplishment. Looks like you had a great day… Even though it was chilly!
Susan says
Loved the video!! I love watching people cross the finish line at races – even people I don’t know! Those are particularly cute pics of you and Matt too 🙂
Todd says
28 is cold? It’s -35F here. Or -37C. That is cold.
Katy @ These Beautiful Feet says
Go to Target!! They have mittens that have just the thumb and pointer finger with tips that fold back, perfect for iphones and pretty inexpensive too. you easily button them back.
SO fun to see Whit finishing her race as well as the other girls!! Thanks for videotaping them for us to see as well. Also, I will repeat..Florida needs a Great Harvest!! Or I need to move somewhere with one. 🙂
Meghan@traveleatlove says
I wish it was 28 here! When I ran my 8.5 this am it was 21 with an 8 degree windchill! Wow Ghost World is FAST!
Your burrito looks delish, also, yum!
Joelle (The Pancake Girl) says
I love your Oikos hat- I want one!
eggie says
you should decorate your tree with an oatmeal theme. Little mini almond butter jars, spoons, tiny placemats and teeny bowls may festoon the coconut sprinkled branches. it could really work.
Andrea says
Hey Kath!
Love the pictures of you and Matt freezing outside. It’s about 15 degrees up North with about 5 inches of snow on the ground. By the way…you and Matt seem like a great couple. You two compliment each other well. Do you ever get into fights or little arguments? I just got married and we def. have our days when we are annoyed with each other. But, you never seem like you are with Matt. LOL
Just wondering…
LOVE YOUR BLOG!
Andrea
Kath says
Thanks!!
We don’t fight per se, but we do disagree!! In fact, I am disagreeing over how much he drank tonight right now
AnnQ says
28 degrees is DEFINITELY cold running weather…my lungs always feel it when it’s that cold! 🙂
Chelsea says
brrrr…28 is cold where I’m from!
sarah (ghost world) says
OMG just saw the video!!! you were such awesome spectators, thank you so much! hopefully josh can do that for you when you do the race (hopefully w/ me + emily!).
we will have to get to work on the perfect training plan 🙂 yeahhhhh!
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
my nano i pod won’t work with gloves either. it is irritating!!!!
ilana says
just cut little slits in the palm-side finger tips of the thumb and forefinger on a pair of gloves and pull the tips off your fingers when you want to use your phone!
Jerilynne says
I know I’m a little late to the commenting party BUT I just got these new gloves at Target and they are awesome and only $11!! I think the pink and green are one sale for less.

The thumbs and pointer fingers have the tips cut and there are little buttons so you can pin them back. That way, you can use your phone, iPod, etc. and not have to take off your gloves (or cut the thumbs off!)
