There’s a special guest in town – Lindsay’s List – and Sarah Smart organized a lunch for us to get together! Lindsay came to Cville with her two cute kids and sister Katy for a short trip. They went to Polyface Farm yesterday and brought me some eggs!!
We went to Feast!, a local favorite lunch spot (especially blogger friendly too!)
Appetizers came from Feast’s amazing sample table – Dr. Pete’s Praline Glaze with goat cheese and VA Plum Chutney on bleu with gingersnaps and Carr’s crackers!
For lunch I had the summer salad – with bacon, bleu, corn, and fresh tomatoes
Plus a bean salad on the side [ate around the red onions!]
After lunch we poked our heads into The Spice Diva, where you can find any gourmet spice you need. I smelled things like rose sugar, lime salt and 3 kinds of smoked paprika! I came out with maple flakes (oatmeal topping!?) and a super smoky applewood smoked salt.
My workout for the day was the walk there and back – it wore me out! Maybe 2.5 miles total for the trip out, but carrying eggs, gifts and wearing flip flops made it feel like more work than a tennis shoe power walk.
I’m already thinking about a snack…and have a handful of things left to do before the day is over.
[Pizza for dinner!!!]

I really shouldn’t have read this post hungry! Now I am famished, lol!!

I walk several miles in flip flops, for some reason I hate tennis shoes. However, you can blister easily in flip flops!

Now that is a store I could linger in for ages! Love all the spices in their containers…how fun to see all their various creations! Very inspiring I am sure! Bean Salad is one of my favourites…even with the red onion! 🙂

Ooh looks like a fun way to spend the afternoon! I love spice shopping and smoked paprika is one of my faves. I actually just re-stocked on my lunch break today! Glad you had fun. 🙂
Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning says
I’m so bummed that I didn’t make it to Feast when I was down there! It was highly recommended by the folks at Blenheim. Next time for sure!
I LOVE Lindsay (and her sister Katy!!) and Sarah!! Those are some of my most favorite gals right there- and how thoughtful of them to bring you eggs from Polyface! Henry and Clara are pretty darn cute, too. 🙂 Wish I could have been there to join you guys- I came down a week too early!
I would go nuts in the Spice Diva. Pretty sure I’d spend all afternoon there…

I’m a fairly new reader, and I know you don’t like onions, but what about them don’t you like – smell, taste, texture, raw v. cooked? Just curious. Because my sister doesn’t like the texture, but likes the taste, so she cooks with onion powder or pureed onions.
KathEats says
I don’t like their strong, pungent, grassy taste, but what I hate most about them is that they linger on your breath like garlic. I don’t really eat raw garlic either, but I do by accident sometimes (like last night’s pesto!). I don’t dislike the taste of garlic so I can get over the linger, but the smell of onions to me is so offensive I can’t imagine tasting it for 24 hours. Cooked are easier to manage, but I still don’t like the taste.
lindsay says
Is she Lindsay with an A or Lindsey with an E??
As a Lindsay (with an A) – I notice these kinds of things 🙂
KathEats says
With an A! I wrote it E first and then forgot to change the second one. Good catch – although sounds like you’re on the lookout 🙂
lindsay says
I can’t help myself 🙂
My name is always misspelled with an E, but I wonder if LindsEys are often misspelled with an A? Just one of those things!
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says

My heart breaks a little whenever I see your poor, unloved, left-behind onions! 🙂 I could eat red onions like an apple!

Haha I can’t imagine!!

I’ve been crazy excited about walking lately! Running has not appealed to me at all, but walking? Love it. 🙂
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I have maple flakes and I love them! They melt when I put them on oatmeal, but they stay crunchy with yogurt. I haven’t thought of any other ways to use them yet!
Lindsay @ Lindsay's List says
I had a wonderful time, Kath! Hope the eggs turned out ok!

I have found that wearing flip flops while pregnant makes my calves hurt after being on my feet most of the day. Most flip flops have no support to them.
