Going away and coming home again are so weird!!
I feel like I’ve been gone a few weeks. My computer seems foreign. I forget what it’s like to live in Cville. And I flew right through and over my old home: Charlotte. (Caitlin and Diana, I flew right over your houses!)
I was so glad to be home to the humidity (yes, it’s kind of annoying, but it’s also comforting to me!) and the sound of crickets. San Diego is so beautiful, but the weekend left me feeling a little sterile! Blame that on the city/indoor/hotel vibe, but I missed the summertime we’re having back east.
Until I stepped out of the car and felt something crawl on my foot!!
In Charlotte I considered a smoothie for “dinner” (which was 4PM west coast time) but I was freezing!! I wanted something warm and meal-like and was in the mood for beans. So I was happy to see the Tequileria had a black bean soup to warm me up – served with los chips for dipping!
And for a filling + nutritious side, I had the mango salad. It was spicy and I was very pleased with its size!! Pretty sure there was an entire mango embedded throughout.
After my quick dinner I wanted something sweet – but nothing cold! So I got a Starbucks Vanilla Rooibos Latte – hit the spot! After my sit down dinner, I had to race to make my flight – but still managed to get my post up on time – whew.
My flight to Cville was on time, although a bit bumpy!
I’m glad to be back in Matt’s arms : ) He had a fun weekend without me that involved beer (duh), Poppy the dog, a 20 mile bike ride, a trip to Beer Run, sardines, two dinners with Karen, two great days at the bakery and 12 hours of sleep.
I’m not sure if I’m going to go in tomorrow or Tuesday, but we’ll see how I feel when I wake up.

Do you fly into Cville airport? Right by my grandparents house! 😀 That first picture is beautiful-I would love for you to do a post on taking pics, food pics, etc. That would be great and so helpful!

Welcome home. Glad you were able to to find a great dinner. Have a good evening unpacking and resting.
rumfunandsun says
That food looks super yummy! I can’t believe you drank caffeine that late in the day! Who are you? Are turning all West Coast on us? 🙂
KathEats says
I thought it was caffeine free!?
Kerry says
Rooibos is caffeine free 🙂
Katherina @ Zephyr Runs says
Rooibos is an herb, not technically from the tea plant therefore it’s caffeine free!
Margo @ Peanut Butter Trees says
There’s a lot to be said for home sweet home!

Something crawling on your foot! OH NO!!!! eeeekkkk! ……Welcome home! Sleep tight and enjoy your Matt! (I just returned from a honeymoon re-do with the husband, feeling a bit jet lagged, ugh!)
Diana says
Aww wish we could have seen you! But HLS is right around the corner, so we will see you soon! 🙂

Matt’s weekend sounded fun (your did too, of course)! I miss 20-mile bike rides. I will have to get my biking self together soon!! 🙂

That’s a great salad for being from a restaurant. I find restaurant salads are hit and miss; usually on the miss side, unfortunately. That’s a total hit! 🙂
Glad you had a fabulous homecoming!
Namaste Gurl says
I totally know the “happy to be home” feel. There’s nothing quite like it and you have much gratitude coming home. I was in Hawaii for two weeks which was amazing, as assumed, but home is truly where the heart is. 🙂
Have a wonderful evening home!
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
I’ve had some good salads from Tequileria too. Not bad for airport restaurant food! Enjoy your night at home and your own bed!
Army Amy* says
It took me a minute to realize that was airport food you had for dinner! It looks too nice to be from any of the airports that I frequent!*
RunEatRepeat says
For the record, I’m still traumatized by the “p word” thing that happened last night. I felt like I relived it when I told Ben what happened.
KathEats says
Me too!!

It’s been too cold for smoothies here Down Under, so I knwo how you feel/felt!

i kinda miss having a summer too – having grown up on the east coast i equate the season with mosquitos and humidity. but i also enjoy my socal weather.

I’d love to try making a homemade version of that soup sometime. It looks so good!
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
That soup looks rocking and I’ve got to try that tea at SB some time.
I’ll be back in VA tomorrow, I too am oddly excited to be back to the weather (and more importantly my baby) 🙂
Jumanah @ Healthy Living in the Middle East says
Glad you made it home safely!
Your soup and salad dinner look delicious! That salad looks so fresh!

“San Diego is so beautiful, but the weekend left me feeling a little sterile! Blame that on the city/indoor/hotel vibe, but I missed the summertime we’re having back east. ”
The #1 thing about San Diego is that yes, it’s cool here all summer. For my friends who live more in East County or North County of San Diego, yes, they get more “summer” but for us urban dwellers, it’s chilly. Or not necessarily “summery”. I totally know what you mean.
I was in Denver for about 48 hrs earlier in the week and i swear it felt like 7 days! Trips always feel LONGER to me than they really are. in a huge way! (except beach vacations..those go by way too fast!)
Aine @ Something to Chew Over says
Welcome home! Hope you recover quickly 🙂
Kerry says
Welcome back! I just got home from a trip and I’m glad to be back in my boyfriends arms too (and my kitties!)

I’m glad you made it home safely!
I love vacations, but I love coming home more.
Ali @ Peaches and Football says
It’s always fun to get where you’re going. By the last day of flying I am always more than ready to be back home, around my things and family and sleeping in my own bed!
Funny to hear how the guys cope when we are away though. Glad Matt kept himself busy 🙂
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
I love soup in the summer sometimes! Glad your home safe 🙂
Caitlin says
Your San Diego trip sounded great. I would really love to spend more time on the West Coast, as the only time I was there was to visit the Bay Area..san fran, oakland, etc.
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
I’m always so happy to be home after travel. There really is no place like it!

That first picture is gorgeous! It actually looks like the English countryside in the 2005 Pride & Prejudice movie.
Hope you had a good sleep in your own bed again! 🙂

That black bean soup looks so delicious but there’s no way I could eat that kind of food and then catch a flight. Me and my sensitive stomach. 🙂
That salad, though, looks amazing! Those flavors together must have been so good! Glad you are home and made it safely. 🙂
Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn says

You just totally led to a major break through in my mind! So I am from Minneapolis (aka HUMID) and moved to Seattle two years ago. I miss the humidity like crazy. I tell people this and they don’t understand. Humidity is comforting to me too!

Mmm love that vanilla rooibos ! It is delicious with a scone / cookie, for the record.
Not that I would know or anything.. 🙂

I love returning home after trips, too, but get you on things feeling a little “foreign”. Your dinner actually looks quite tasty for airport food!
