Good morning from the conference vacuum!
I actually slept OK last night, but I was awake around 5:30 with less than 7 hours of sleep before my alarm went off! At least that’s the good part about morning runs on the west coast – you’re always awake early!
A pre-run date!
I’m so glad I went on the 5K run – it was a blast!! I met Roni (our like…6th annual blog run!), Jenn (second annual BlogHer together!) and a few others bright and early. I had to jog from my hotel about half a mile to get there.
I ran with Jess of Jess Runs and Lori of Groovy Green Livin. We did some awesome negative splits on our path ( 8:41 | 8:34 | 8:21 ).
Can I please comment on the AMAZING running weather and FLAT pathways!! Sure makes running more fun – and with company!
I ran back to my hotel and showered up. I love showering at nice hotels!! Fancy spa products.
I also really do not like Starbucks standard coffee, but I LOVE the different blends I find in hotels. I made a cup of coffee to sip while I got dressed.
Back at the Convention Center – it was breakfast time!! Unfortunately the options were not very healthy other than fruit. Minimal whole grains, minimal humane protein, but they did have a vegan buffet!
GASP – Kath ate eggs for breakfast!! And actually they tasted pretty good! I rounded ’em out with a bunch of fresh fruit. I had my hands on a muffin, but I had to remind myself that most muffins are not like our Great Harvest ones and aren’t whole grain and are usually loaded with sugar + fat, so I put it back.
I grabbed this vegetable juice to taste, but I just can’t do veggies for breakfast. It tasted pretty good for lunch though!
Hot tea to sip!
My breakfast companions – Jess and Jaclyn!
I’ve got a number of things on my agenda today – can’t wait to go see what is here!
Katie says
So fun you are at that conference! I bet it will be a great weekend in SanDiego, how could it not be?! I love it there! Have a fun day Kath!
Jumanah @ Healthy Living in the Middle East says
Cant wait to read about your adventures in San Diego! Looks like you started the morning off right! Have a great day!
Hillary says
Phew! You’ve already had a busy day! Haha—enjoy your time at the conference; it looks like it’s going to be a blast.
Lisa @ Sunny Seed Stories says
I don’t like Starbucks regular hot coffee either (too dark for me), but I will have to try the blends now. 🙂
Allie (Live Laugh Eat) says
HAVE FUN!!!!
Michelle (The Runner's Plate) says
I can’t do veggies for breakfast either (except Green Monsters). I hope no one makes a negative comment about you refusing the muffin because I would have done the same thing. Muffins at places like that usually never end up being that good and they always taste fake.
krystina says
Have fun!
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
I dislike Starbucks coffee too. I think it always tastes burnt. Yuck. Enjoy the conference!
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
I’m always surprised by the lack of “healthy” options at these conferences. But at least there was fresh fruit! Enjoy the beautiful weather. 🙂
Lauren says
“Unfortunately the options were not very healthy other than fruit. Minimal whole grains, minimal humane protein, but they did have a vegan buffet! ”
I read this as human protein and I am still giggling a bit over my confusion and then figuring it out.
RhodeyGirl says
Hilarious!
katie @KatieDid says
Haha I eat eggs every single morning for breakfast! It looks like you pieced together a good breakfast regardless of the lackluster options I’d say. Have fun at the conference! (ps. this is testing if my comments are going to spam too)
Lynda @ Healthy Hoboken Girl says
Have a great weekend Kath! Good idea about the fatty muffin, you make us so proud!! Enjoy!
RhodeyGirl says
Hi Kath!
Wish I was there too.
I’m already sacrificing so much for this bambino. Luckily he is worth it!
Can’t wait to see you in two weeks!
Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me says
Looks like an awesome time already!
Kristin @ eat healthy. be happy. live well says
Can’t wait to hear more about your conference experience!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
Normally I avoid buffet eggs but those look really good! Enjoy the conference!!!
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
The eggs look good!! Have fun at the conference 🙂
I love a good run too- when it is nice and flat and NOT crazy humid. Haha
Nikki says
Ah man. I did a 5k when I was in San Deigo a few weeks ago. The flatness and low humidty were so much nicer than back here.
Have a blast at the conference!
Margo @ peanut butter trees says
Good call on the muffin – I try to keep this in mind too, that all baked goods are not equal and many of them don’t have good whole ingredients in them like the ones I make or buy in healthy stores! Smart move to keep in mind for me.
Ashley O. @ The Vegetable Life says
I wish all muffins were whole grain and not full of sugar and fat! I would eat muffins all the time if they were so bad for me!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
LOL the GH muffins (and breads and everything else) have probably ruined you for life – I bet nothing will ever taste as good! Sounds like you’re having a great time and I can’t wait to see what else you get up to!
Sana says
Anything with bloggers is way more fun!
Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance says
I can’t do veggies for breakfast either! I just want something sweet 🙂
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
ahhh how exciting!! dannng didn’t know y’all were in socal! wish I could meet you 😀 I’m in OC though hehe. I do wanna make a drive to SD and just chill at the gorgeous beach though! Have fun girl!!
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
I’m not a fan of those mixed veggie drinks either — I like carrot juice on its own and somehow freshly made juice tastes so much better than those bottled drinks.
Have fun at the conference!
Cait @ Cait hates Cake says
This just made me realized that we do hardly EVER see you eat eggs for breakfast. You like your oats and smoothies too much or just not a big fan of eggs?
KathEats says
I just like carbs/sweet for breakfast!! Savory is almost repulsive to me. Strange – but that’s just how my body is!
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
Whenever we visit my husband’s family in Seattle, I’m always up SUPER early, no matter how little sleep I got the night before…grrrr, time change 🙂
Have fun!!
Amanda- The Nutritionist Reviews says
You are a great healthy living blogger to put the muffin back! I would have definitely taken it in that situation!
Christine (The Raw Project) says
That’s awesome they had a vegan breakfast buffet, I would have been all over it! 🙂 Hope you’re having a great day at the conference!
Emily@SavoryandSavage says
Great choices for breakfast and brava on not going for the muffin. I think those muffins always taste like they are made from solid sugar.
Have fun at the conference!
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
A pre-run date, hahahahaha!! I’ve never heard of very veggie, was it good?
lynn @ the actor's diet says
have fun! now i regret selling my ticket 🙁
Jess says
It was so nice to meet you this morning! Thanks for pushing me so hard during the 5K. I definitely would have slacked off a little bit if I hadn’t had you there to run with!
rumfunandsun says
Looks like it’s starting off fun!!! Enjoy!
Lexi @ A Spoonful of Sunshine says
This makes me want to try a GH muffin so badly!! 🙂
Kathryn says
Kath-
I love your shorts! They look so good on you! Where are they from?!
KathEats says
Thanks – they NIKE Tempos (size large) and I like them too so I ordered 2 more pairs online and they are just not the same!) The larges are too big and they are not the same material. I think the pink ones are a few years old. Shame
Shayla @ The Good Life says
Ahhh so jealous you’re in San Diego! It’s my hubby’s and mine fav spot, we got married and honeymooned there. Enjoy it, it’s a wonderful, beautiful place to be! 🙂
katie @KatieDid says
Haha I eat eggs every single morning for breakfast! It looks like you pieced together a good breakfast regardless of the lackluster options I’d say. Have fun at the conference! (ps. this is testing if my comments are going to spam too)
Cait's Plate says
SD is seriously the BEST for running!! I ran every day when I was there.
Have so much fun – can’t wait to read about the rest of your day 🙂
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
Have fun! love the red shirt 🙂
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
Glad you got a morning run in! You go girl! Yes, the weather here is perfect for running and there’s always some great, flat paths if you don’t want hills. Glad you enjoyed!
The pics of you and the other ladies are great! I hope you’re learning lots but mostly, hope you’re meeting all kinds of amazing people!
Have a wonderful afternoon 🙂
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
Looks like fun! And seriously, thank goodness for good running weather! It makes such a difference!

Once you have had the best of the best bread and such, you never want to go back to its average counterparts.

Living, Learning, Eating says
I love staying in hotels! I get to, starting next Thursday – yay! 🙂
Christin says
I ran a 5k along that exact same path by the pier last year! I was in SD for a work conference…it is definiely an awesome trail with a great view isn’t it? 🙂
Kiran @ KiranTarun.com says
I’ve never been to West coast before. So envious of the running weather. It’s loathing hot here in Florida 😀
Molly @ RDexposed says
I will say it: I am a dietitian and hate vegetable juice.
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
Haha I never have eggs for breakfast either – they’re a lunch food for me! But I think I would have opted for the eggs too if the other options weren’t that healthy. And at least there was fresh fruit!
Jaclyn says
Kath- So glad I got to meet you today 🙂 And to think it was all because of my yellow skirt. Hooray for staying strong and resisting temptation together at breakfast!!
Hannah says
What a wonderful start to the day! You’re all super pretty 🙂
Khushboo says
Snap, egg never make it for breakfast for me except for in the form of pancakes or in my oatmeal- I need mah sweet 1st thing!
Kristina says
Where you ran is where I run every morning–I live across the street from the convention center.
If you have time for breakfast, check out a cafe nearby called Brickyard. It is about 3 blocks away and it has great (healthy) breakfast options.
And the weather here is pretty much like this all year round, I couldn’t believe it when I first moved here from the Midwest.
KathEats says
You’re so close! We’re running again Sunday AM if you want to join us?
Aine @ Something to Chew Over says
I wish I was there!
Katherina @ Zephyr Runs says
Muffins always looks so unassuming… like they couldn’t POSSIBLY be bad for you! Good call 🙂
