Boy, I don’t even remember how this weekend started out – let me reference the photo time stamp!
Ahhh yes, Saturday breakfast! Eggs, toasted and buttered roll, fruit.
We said farewell to Karen on Saturday morning as she headed north via train for a wedding. Mazen and I took the stroller out for a run around town that landed us at the Truck Touch! Put on by the Montessori School of Charlottesville, the IX project was packed with trucks of all kind – truly a toddler’s dream!
We checked out everything from firetrucks to school buses and got to sit in the driver’s seat of many.
Seeing him so excited made me so happy <3
Moving truck!
The big 18 wheeler was a HUGE hit – until it was time to get down and let someone else have a turn.
Of course there were food trucks too, but they were running low on stock when we started to get hungry. I had already mentioned a quesadilla to M, so we went to hunt for one on the downtown mall. Cinema Taco to the rescue!
He had his quesadilla, and I had a fish burrito in a bowl. Delicious!
We ended our mommy date with tiny cones from Splendora’s.
Saturday afternoon we dressed up and headed to the McDermott’s for their annual Kentucky Derby Party! We look forward to this event all year 🙂
Juleps, great food and lots of friends!
The Sayas were looking quite dapper –
Of course the highlight of the evening is going inside to watch the big race. I placed a $5 bet on Firing Line and walked away with nearly $70 cash! Second place ain’t so shabby since the first place winners had to split the pot 4 ways.
Sunday morning’s food stock called for pancakes with apples. (We only had one egg!)
We sipped some delicious Driftaway Coffee I was sent to sample through the morning.
After a bunch of house stuff, I packed up for back-to-back soccer games. We won our first and tied the second. I covered about 8.5 miles according to my Jawbone. My legs aren’t that tired, but my feet and ankles were so sore by the end of the second game. My feet are always my weakest link.
Since the games were during lunch, I had an ALT bar and a banana mid-day and a gallon of water. Plus some of a Great Harvest cookie immediately upon returning home!
This evening we had a joint cookout with our neighbors who we love! We had sliders, tortilla chips with guac, a ton of grilled veggies and salad.
Plus some red solo cups of home brew!
It was a beautiful evening that felt like the start of summer <3

I love your dress! Those trucks looks super fun. I would have to concur with Mazen, that it would have been a toddler’s dream. 🙂 And wow. 8.5 miles. That’s a great workout for a soccer game.

Barbecue dinner looks awesome!!! I think I’ll have to partake in a tiny bit of cheese this season just for a burgers sake! Hopefully my tummy and skin can hack it! Love the turquoise nail colour!

Are those veggie burgers grilling next to the carrots? If store bought, what kind? thanks
KathEats says
they are but they are for our neighbors, so I’m not sure the brand. I suspected they might be Trader Joes Marsala burgers
Amanda says
That burrito bowl looks fabulous- I might have to throw something like that into the dinner rotation!

Looks like you had an awesome weekend! The stuff you guys grill always looks so good! I’ve never thought of grilling carrots before. Did you put anything on them first? Also… Were those veggie burgers or regular? Thanks!!
KathEats says
We just rubbed them in some olive oil! And they were veggie burgers for our neighbors who are vegetarians

I’m glad you had an enjoyable weekend Kath, but I feel I must say something about the Kentucky Derby. Horses are abused in this sport and I believe that if you like horses, you wouldn’t support this. I was nervous about leaving this comment because when I’ve seen people express their thoughts (gently) on a blog post, others tend to reply back with hate and insults because they don’t agree with the person who made the comment. I don’t want any of this to happen, I just wanted to say something.

Looks like a very fun weekend! Love all the veggies on the grill! I really like the white side table in the picture of your coffee. Can you share where it is from?
KathEats says
I believe I got it from a Joss and Main sale
